  1. Guns N' Roses is just an empty name now, nothing more. Axl made everything to f...k up 12.000 Hungarian enthusiastic spectarors, plenty of them being fanatic GNR fan since his/her sweet childhood, and waiting for the next opportunity to come (after 92 when they were here). Ok, we could wait 14 years of silence so that we can wait 2 hours for the start of the show, but since it was weekday, I understood that the working men (approximately half of the audience) had to go home around midnight - so didn't see NOTHING of GNR.

Even so big stars as Axl Rose can't do that with this people. Next time, he has to get his fat butt up and move onto the stage in time, but i don't think the Hungarian rockers would like to play this game next time.

Ok, let's forget this delay, but the concert itself was not as satisfactory, as we would expect after this mess. Axl came up with these 3 (!) teen-punk looking guitarists, whose function was to fill the holes between 2 or 3 blocks of songs, cuz Axl didn't have the balls the sing more than 10-15 minutes. So they made totally meaningless, and yes AMATEUR solos, that even my little brother could play in the age of 12. To be true, Axl's voice was not as bad, it was somewhat OK, the song worked, but that's all, and nothing is more tiresome than to start up by singing and dancing old school classics, and after that to stop and suffer these f...d up solos. Well, Dizzy at least put a nice solo on the piano, and Axl made those famous squirming and great stage postures and gestures, but this was not enough for the most people.

The show also lacked the real energy-flow between the band and the audience, i don't simplify if i rate it as a nice nostalgic gig with a lot of neutral gears, a big "We play you the best of guns and leave, ok?" with nothing to tell the real people being out there to see a true rock god (now ex-god for them).

Well Axl, you have to come up with something really big to expect anybody seeing your show next time.

Guess Madrid didn't teach him anything hey?

Get ready for lots of nuthuggers who'll tell you that you could "expect" this.......

One thing though, you said you saw nothing and yet you give us a pretty detailed review of the concert, am I missing something?

  2. Hi guys,

I was just wondering (for the guys who were on RIR or saw it on AOL), was Fortus just as awesome as he was in Madrid?

I mean, I really don't understand all those cries for Robin Finck because yeah, that's exactly what he made me do: Cry for his bad solos. But on the other hand, Richard Fortus was amazing in Madrid and I kinda get the feeling he repeated that shit in Lisboa right?

What happened to those guys? Fortus improved a hell of a lot and Finck didn't pick up a guitar since 2002?

  3. Axl you need to suck up your pride and wallet and get Bucket back. I know a lot of people talk on this board about what a nice guy Bumble is but his guitar playing and Charisma are pretty lackluster. He looks like he should be in Megadeth and his playing is fucking boring. That solo he does with his gay ass guitar is beyond shitty. I've seen Bucket in 2002 with GnR and i've seen Bumble in 2006 with GnR, so i'm not basing my opinion off crappy bootlegs. I think the only reason Bucket left was the endless delays in releasing Chinese Democracy, and really, who can blame him. The fact is Bucket "can play like a motherfucker" to quote Ozzy Osbourne whereas Bumbles playing leaves a lot to be desired. You can say you don't like Bucket's image but Ron's image isn't exactly shit hot either. I listen to Nightrain from 2002 and it saddens me to know it will never be played like that again unless Bucket comes back.

    Dude......that is one original opinion!

  4. Richard is the best of the new guys by far, talent wise and presence wise. He's got the Izzy vide, but he moves around more, and he plays bluesy stuff, which is what GNR is. Bluesy hard rock.

You nailed it dude. I think he's awesome. Some might say (with this GNR style I mean) that he imitates the old guys or whatever but that's definitely not true. He seems to be the rythm guitarist who also knows how to play amazing solos with exactly what you say "that bluesy hard rock GNR style".

  5. To be honest, a lot I think. And that goes for lot's of different nationalities I know. Actually, I think only the (once) die-hard fans really know he's out. I even meet people who think VR is some kind of side project of his.

I don't know, at least in Holland, Slash leaving Guns in '96 wasn't exactly frontpage news. Maybe it would have had it happend some years earlier but especially then, end of '94, '95 & '96 everything around Guns was extremely silent and the casual fans lost interest.

My point of view....don't kill me now!

  6. I agree that when you go to a gnr gigs, you have to expect them to be late but hey, two hours late is fuck*ng to much.

While i agree that two hours is a long time to wait - for any band. There could be circumstances surrounding the delay that we don't know about. There could well have been techincal problems - and if there were then i think a delay is understandable.

While two hours is a long time - i'd wait all night.

    R.

The thing is, you know, then you should inform the crowd and not wait untill all hell is about to break loose, invent some kind of excuse (technical problems....right....) to the point where everyone can see that they weren't even there!

  7. The topic creator sounds like just another crazy fan in my opinion.

So Axl was 2hrs late, so fucking what! Yes it's a slight inconvenience, but 13,000 people or however much it was still got to see him perform!

Your complaining because they used the same set design as the New York shows? Jesus fucking christ, that's a laughable complaint.

Bad sound? you do realise that an outdoor arena is not going to sound the same as an indoor concert hall?

You'd have probably been happier if Axl hadn't showed up at all, then you could have really vented your anger and bitched about Axl as much as you'd have liked to!

Very very ignorant and immature.....did you have to get up at 7 this morning?

Quit licking Axl's balls or at least get your head out of his ass! The man does things wrong and there is nothing wrong with admitting that hoping that he improves himself one day.

You do know the meaning of the words ignorant and immature, do you? I realise you're probably struggling with the language barrier, but still....

I find it amusing that you think my post was immature, but then go on to tell me to "quit licking Axl's balls or take my head out of his ass"..... yup, that's very original, and mature...

So you think my head is up Axl's ass because I havn't condemned him for being late or what? I'm not saying Axl has a right to be late, but he is well known for being late to gigs, so I would have at least been expecting some sort of delay in them taking the stage, but all would have been forgotten once they took the stage and delivered a rockin set. A lot of you seem to be completely blinded by the fact that they took to the stage 2hrs late, regardless of how good the actual performance was, you're not really interested in that, you're only interested in hurling abuse at Axl.

I was at the Leeds gig in 2002 and I'm pretty sure the band were really late in taking to the stage, but I have no recollection of that really, all I remember from that night was the amazing performance from the band.

P.S. I posted at 9:55am, not 7am, so no, I really didn't have to get up at 7.

Really good post! Thank you, totally changed my mind!

  8. Well dude, I'm glad you enjoyed the show, I just don't agree with you.

I don't like being fucked around like that as a thank you after 13 years.

Another guy in here said it very well: Axl still thinks he is the biggest band in the world and that it's still 1992. Things changed though in my opinion.

  9. I thought the new songs sounded pretty good, especially TWAT actually. Some guy wrote that the songs sounded a little flat, have to agree with him there, probably due to equipment. On the other hand, here you see how subjective we all are, he also said Better sucked and I thought it sounded great! But definitely The Blues and Madagascar sounded a little empty while I love those songs and think they would have made a better impression on the Spaniards if the sound was more full/bombastic.

I actually wore my 1993 Alice in Chains shirt (Rotterdam, amazing concert!) just hoping, against all odds, they would open for Guns in Madrid as well. Guess what, they didn't..... I really love to know how they'll do in Nijmegen opening up for Guns, please write a review of it. Although I do think that it's almost as hard to fill Layne Staley's shoes in Alice in Chains as it would be to fill Axl's shoes in GNR, you know what I mean? Such typical "one in a million" voices.

  10. I was there, backstage by the way, and here's how I see it:

-band arrived late in a van and a hummer (deluxe cars?)

-THE SOUND.Sound was quite bad, bass far too loud, sometimes you couldn't even hear the guitar or Axl's voice. The need a good sound tech guy there. I talked to promoters and all and the answer was that this time the band doesn't bring its own stage and equipment. Besides instruments and amps (and some effects) the rest has been provided by the promoters. And in my opinion someone messed up that part.(4/10)

-THE (NEW) BAND. Besides that, which is not their fault, the band rocked. Specialy Robin who I think really won the public. Some solos where a bit off and sometimes 3 guitars are too many BUT they will get the hang of it. Another bad thing is that when they songs like November Rain or Some of the new ones, you can clearly see they need more instruments on stage. Those songs are too complex to just play on guitar and drums. The effects (except for Madi) weren't there and the new songs sounded a little empty in my opinion.(9/10)

-AXL. He was there (late). Motivated. In a good mood. And with voice in shape. I beleive he will do even better as the tour develops and he starts to get a little more in shape that he is right now (8/10)

-THE SOLOS. There were too many, true, and some of them a little boring (even though i still remember those hateful Sorum solos). But the reason is Axl needs to catch his breath every 3-4 songs. Another artist would just stand and not move so he doesn't get tired but Axl moved around like always... 14 years later. And again, like I said before, he will improve as the tour develops. (5/10)

-THE PUBLIC. I was a little amazed by 2 things:

*it seems Internet hasn't arrived in Spain because 99% of the public didn't know ANY of the new songs, so they just stood there and watched. And like I said, some of the new songs sounded quite bad. For example. Better sucked big time and it's great song.

*The age and profile. 90% of the people were over 30 or 35 and, to say the least, not really the image you would expect from a Heavy Metal fan (i even saw Ralph Lauren Shirts lol). That means that they will move less. i'm sure that most would have rather sat down. But not at all because the show sucked, but because you grow old and being pushed around, stepped on, etc just isn't what you want anymore. (6/10)

So in conclusion, not THE greatest show in time but quite good. Wasn't the best because of sound problems. The band AND Axl need a little more touring to get in the perfect fit.

One more thing, Spanish critics are lame, mediocre, bad informed and, to say it in the kindest possible way, a BUNCH OF UN PROFESSIONAL ASSHOLES.

    Cheers

PS- Guess who I was with at an aftershow private party?

CABRON!!! How did you get those passes, why, where, when??? What happened backstage, more info man, more info!!

Loved the "Ralph Lauren" part in your review, welcome to Spain man, that's the way it is, haha!

And don't forget Richard, I think he stole most "new" hearts yesterday, definitely mine. (but man! That is one damn HUGE nose he sports!)

  11. ooh, and I'm going the the Nijmegen gig. If he doesn't show up.....so be it......I hope he does show up ofcourse....big chance he's taking the stage late..........see.....I'm prepared.....I can only enjoy the show. Even if he walks of after one song..... It's all in the 'game'.

Dude, you're lucky. You must have a whole lotta money & a whole lotta time. How about the Rosie?

    Base

ps. I will one day too though...

  12. Glad to see not everyone is up his ass. Guess "we're not the only one.....we're not the only one"

    Good last post.

And you're right, there we're actually quite a lot of people leaving near the end of the show. It was getting way too late for a weekday.

I really thought to myself: "As soon as somebody dares to throw one of them chairs on the stage (let's face it, nobody really dared) then shit will hit the fence and the show will be canceled"

That could have been the end right there. Thank God it didn't.

  13. Are you guys sure Richard's solo was before Ron's? I mean, I vividly remember liking Richard's one so much more than the the solo's of Robin & Ron, that's why I wonder.

Confusing this Robin, Ron, Richard........(Reed, Rose......you need an R in your name to have more of a change to end up in GNR, that Pittman dude is doing something right! Well, hey BRain......ChRiss....)

  14. Oh my god......another asslicker.....

Oh, how "hypocritical" of me to enjoy a show but to be angry to have to wait for it for two hours. Hell, I guess next time we mind as well wait a week in the concerthall!

Read my post on Gilby please, maybe it'll change your opinion, probably not, but see if I care.

Oh and by the way, I must be a really crappy fan who just last week found out about GNR to put pictures of the stage two days before the show on the web for stupid fucks like you to enjoy. I must have really always been so "hypocritical" about Guns N' Roses. You know what, I probably don't even have a single album of theirs.

By the way, do you really think Axl gives a fuck about you? Let's say he reads your post and sees "cool man, you enjoyed the show, doesn't matter that you have to wait two hours", do you think he thinks your cool or do you think he thinks "what a nerd". 'Cause yeah, that's what I think he thinks, you're a nerd.

Bye now, go lick Axl's ass.

Oh, what a shame, you can't even do that....

I'm no Axl-asslicker. Ofcourse Axl doesn't give two shits about me or you. You really think I thought he did? waha. You have no clue. ooh and, I'm not saying your a crappy fan. I'm saying you bitch about things 'obvious' in the Gn'r world. Taking stage late etc.

You got to see a good band. But bitch about them beeing late? (there's a 99% chance they start late considering history) that makes you a hypocrite.

    :xmassrudolph:

guess all the people was shouting hijo de puta at axl, are the nerds to him: call me son of a bitch but pay 40 - 48 euros to see me live!

    Jejejej Touche

Actually, that's exactly my point mate, he just doesn't seem to give a fuck for the people that stuck with him for so long, whether you say "gordo, hijo de puta, cabron, gilipollas" or you lick his balls all the time, he just doesn't give any respect. While that's exactly what he talks about all the time, especially regarding his "former friends". So, surprisingly, I actually agree with you.

ps. He Don't try Me, you're actually Dutch like me, that explains the good (verbal) fight you put up. Desondanks veel plezier in Nijmegen, ik hoop toch voor je dat Axl door alle kritiek (geloof me, de pers hier is dodelijk vandaag) wat eerder het podium opklimt! En je ziet Alice in Chains!!!!!

  15. Oh my god......another asslicker.....

Oh, how "hypocritical" of me to enjoy a show but to be angry to have to wait for it for two hours. Hell, I guess next time we mind as well wait a week in the concerthall!

  16. This is just for the guys who are 24/7 in Axl's ass, so if you're not, don't feel offended.

To everyone who goes: "Look, you should expect them to be late, it's GNR blablabla..."

If you saw the documentary you can hear Gilby say that it definitely WASN'T GNR who were late in the '91-'93 era, it was Axl, always Axl.

The guys would be sitting backstage, no idea where Axl was, not able to reach him and would start drinking. By the time "his royalness" thought it was okay to show up, the rest of the guys would be hammered and not able to give it their all.

Now this definitely not helped GNR back then and started the big split between Axl and the rest of the guys. From there on everything went downhill (and other reasons of course).

So don't tell me it's GNR, because it's not, it's Axl and I see a sinking ship if this continous to go like this.

I'm a big fan, without GNR, I wouldn't be into music at all but there are limits and mine are about to be reached.

  17. The topic creator sounds like just another crazy fan in my opinion.

  18. He was quite nervous.. can't forget what he said at the beggining of November Rain "i just don't care.. I know i dont like them". C'mon Axl... after havin us wait for you for 2 hours... FU

Ah dude, appreciate your effort, agree with your anger but I'm pretty sure he said something like: "I don't care, THEY don't like ME anyway"

The fact that he said "Punta (puta), I have heard that a lot towards me, punta!" means he had no idea people were so pissed off (and that Axl knows nothing about Spanish haha!).

  19. "Yeah yeah cool, 2 hours late yeah, you should expect it yeah......"

Come on grow up will ya? I know they usually start late but what the fuck, 2 hours? This was my third Guns show, the first to being with the original band and they didn't even pull that shit on me back then.

I think Axl forgot that has public had matured 13 years as well. I mean, things I didn't care about 13 years ago, like at what time the concert would start, really bothered me last night. 13 years ago my parents would pick me up after the concert at whatever time, now I (and 10000 Spanish dudes) have to go to work the next morning. Wages in Spain are quite low and jobs are hard to find.....I really agreed with the Spanish, it was a disgrace. I feel with us "northern" people, they get away with more shit, but this time I was all on the Spanish site. Wrong country to fuck with! And then to hear some dumb fuck say "we have some small technical problems, since it is the first time the band is playing in Europe", just to find out that they were not even there! (you should have seen the hurry they were in, not that badass I guess....) That's lying against your public! I really saw it as a lack of respect of Axl towards his fans that stuck with his shit for 13 years.

For me personally I was sad that what I thought was going to be "Axl big triumphant return to the stage" turned out to be a very "mixed feeling adventure".

I feel kind of embarrassed saying this but I was kinda angry with myself that most was forgotten (for me, not for a whole lot others) when they came on stage. They played for 2 hours and 20 minutes (longer than both shows I saw in '93), played all new songs (as far as I know) and were in great shape. I thought the sound was quite good, Axl in a good mood (lucky for him he doesn't understand Spanish...) and to be honest, I was very impressed with Richard Fortus. That guy rocks! I mean, I'd like to hear other opinions but Robin.......he feels the notes and pulls the faces.......but it just sounded really bad! Then you have Ron who is a guitargod, does amazing things and makes me want to cry and throw away my guitars 'cause I'll never learn to play like that (I already have problems with the fast part in Sweet Child...) but it's just too much for me, all that speed and high notes all the time, not my style. Richard was the only dude with that kind of bluesy feel to it, technique and feeling, really good! What Chris Pittman does in the band is beyond me. Another complaint (sorry), the setlist, more of the same. On the other hand, this is something I agree with with most forummembers, if you go to a Guns show IN EUROPE, you always get the same songs. Check the Get in the Ring and Skull 'N' Bones tours in '92 and '93, basically every damn show had the same setlist on those individual legs. I really think their American tours are more, lets say "spontaneous" or "original".

So yeah, all in all, a great show but it's very hard for me to admit that (let alone my girlfriend who'd rather kill Mr. W. Axl Rose)

Hope you guys appreciate the honesty,
