Line-up changes are pretty normal for them

    Cliff Williams replaced Mark Evans

    Phil Rudd replaced Tony Currenti

    Brian Johnson replaced Bon Scott

    Bon Scott replaced Dave Evans

AC/DC should continue and they have every right to do so

While that's true, BJ, PR & CW were in the band for decades. So yes, they may not have been "original" members, they were the face of AC/DC for most of it's life as a band.

While Axl has done a great job on vocals, this isn't even a heavily modified lineup with the lead singer still there.

Maybe they just shouldn't call it AC/DC!

    Edit:

  2. Personally, I think Angus should call it a day with AC/DC now.

    Phil Rudd - gone

    Malcolm Young - dead

    Brian Johnson - gone

    Cliff Williams - gone

All that leaves from their "proper" lineup is Angus. Yes, Chris Slade has toured with them in the past, but this really isn't AC/DC anymore.

Guns N' Roses not playing Download 2017 isn't about money
News / 1 day ago / by Stef Lach

Download boss Andy Copping says Guns N' Roses deciding not to headline Download was about making a statement and not about the cash

The decision by Guns N' Roses to play London's Olympic Stadium rather than headline Download in 2017 has "nothing to do with money," according to Donington chief Andy Copping.

Copping admitted at this year's Download festival that he'd love the reunited Guns N' Roses to make an appearance at Donington in 2017, but the festival recently confirmed Aerosmith, System Of A Down and Biffy Clyro as headliners for next year.

And Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan's reunited Guns N' Roses will play at the Olympic Stadium on June 16.

Asked why Guns N' Roses couldn't be signed up as 2017 Download headliners, Copping tells the That's Not Metal podcast: "It's very, very simple. We'd been talking to Guns N' Roses when it was first being mooted that Duff, Slash and Axl were talking about getting back together.

"They did Coachella and then we talked about Download. I've got to be honest, and this is gonna surprise a lot of people, but it wasn't about the money.

"To them, it was about, 'We want to go out and do our own shows.' On that touring cycle in the early 90s they came to the UK three times and played at Wembley Stadium. That is huge. They wanted to play Wembley, but it was booked. So I said they should look at the Olympic Park."

Once the band decided to play their own stadium show rather than headline at Donington, they settled on the new Olympic Stadium after Axl Rose's triumphant guest slot with AC/DC at the same venue.

Copping adds: "The thing that swung it for Guns N' Roses playing at the Olympic Stadium was that AC/DC concert.

"They just wanted to go for it. They felt it was a bigger stadium, coming back for the first time as that band, that it was a bigger statement. It was nothing to do with money."

As for choosing Aerosmith as headliners in 2017 after they also took top billing in 2014, Copping says he was sold on the fact that it would be the band's last ever UK show.

He says: "It's been sold to me that it's the last time around. When I got the note through that this was gonna be the last chance of seeing them in the UK, it was a no brainer.

"They only wanted to play Donington so it was an absolute given that we'd book them.

"Repeats are always a concern because you want to mix things up a bit. But if there's a specific reason as to why a band is coming round, you think, 'I'm gonna book them.'"

Download 2017 takes place from June 9 to 11.

  4. Kirk definitely has a point. Metallica are just about to release their new album, and having heard it from start to finish it is phenomenal. I don't think he's being disrespectful, when he said it's sad I genuinely think he means that.

Metallica and GnR were the two biggest rock/metal bands of the late 80s/early 90s and were peers. Since then Metallica have carried on releasing new music whereas GnR imploded.

However, we can all cut the GnR boys some slack as Axl, Slash and Duff have only just got back together and after all the acrimony touring is the right first step. Writing music together is the next step hopefully! But just bring back Izzy for the writing sessions...

  5. I like Gilby, but not sure what he's on about here.

For me this is a partial reunion. 3 out of 5 of the classic lineup. Or 4 out of 5 for a few songs when Adler shows up.

A full reunion would obviously be the AFD5. But what we have now is better than anything we've had since 1993, and the band sound great, Axl sounds great and it's amazing to see Slash and Axl share a stage after all the bad blood between them.

As for Gilby being part of any reunion - why would he/should he? He wasn't an original member, he didn't play on any album (except maybe TSI, which was a covers album anyway) he was a hired gun filling in for Izzy for the rest of the Illusions Tour. He did a great job filling in for Izzy and he's a good guy but he would serve no purpose in a reunion. If we're having a stand in for Izzy then Fortus does the job just fine.

  6. I don't think Izzy is underrated. Certainly not by fans like us. To the wider public he may be, but that's probably more to do with the fact that they don't know him. Slash and Axl were always the public face of the band.

Any knowledgeable GnR fan knows how important Izzy was to their songwriting and the overall feel of the band.

Let's analyse the post-Illusion songs Adler has played,

'Civil War' (Illusion 2 and live at Farm Aid)

'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' (played live countless times: definitive version is live from the Marquee 1987).

'Back Off Bitch' (demoed and played live countless times during the club days)

'Perfect Crime' (played live during club days)

'Don't Cry' (demoed and played live countless times during club days)

'You Could Be Mine' (written and rehearsed at SIR during making of Appetite)

    'Don't Damn Me' (Mates Rehearsal)

    'Garden of Eden' (Mates Rehearsal)

    'Locomotive' (Mates Rehearsal)

    'Dust N' Bones' (Mates Rehearsal).

'Down On The Farm' (Farm Aid)

That is ten Illusion songs (and one Spaghetti) demoed, played live and/or rehearsed by Adler, four of which are concert staples.

He would have had a more than passing acquaintance with November Rain, Yesterdays, Bad Obsession and The Garden also, seeing as there are extent demos from the 1980s recorded by various members.

The idea that Adler cannot play Illusion is clearly hokum.

It's not an inability to play the Illusions tracks that's stopping the rest of the band making him the permanent drummer in my opinion. It's them not wanting to take a risk based on Stevens recent history. They want him there and want him involved, hence why he's been invited, but it's clear that they can't kick Frank out and make Steven the full time drummer.

id personally love to start see him playing more than two Appetite songs though if he sticks around. He should play them all.

but Slash and Duff both have relapsed too...many times over. Slash has relapsed AFTER he was found clinically dead. Even Slash isn't sober 10 years, he relapsed in 2007

At the end of the day, i wouldn't bet money on ANY of them being sober between this and the next three years

why is Steven being singled out, hounded like a fox in a hole?

Duff has been sober for a long, long time and Slash has been clean for almost a decade. They've both also toured extensively with VR, Slash & Myles etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as happy as anyone that Steven is there and I'd love his role to be extended to drumming on all of the Appetite and Lies material. I'm just giving my opinion on why Steven wasn't made the sole drummer - to me it's down to the number of times he's relapsed even in recent years.

Have to say though Steve is looking great at the moment and long may that continue.

  9. I think the primary reason why Frank will be around for the full tour no matter how many songs Steven plays each night is that Axl, Slash and Duff probably can't take the risk in case Steve falls back into drink/drugs. I don't think it has anything to do with Steven not being able to learn and play Illusions or CD tracks he's never played before.

If Steven had been sober for the last 10 years and they could 100% rely on him then there's probably a good chance he would have been in from the start as the main drummer.
