  1. All I know is that Ron Thal is a better guitarist than Buckethead, and Bumblefoot have put out some great, great music, some to rival even GN'R.

you have got to be kidding.

bumblefoot has got to be the most boring, generic, tasteless band i've ever heard.

if my one of my best friends was in that band, i would stll refuse to watch them...

    Generic? Generic?

Did I actually read that right?

A band that has run the gamut from fusion jazz to emo? Generic? A band that has actually even blended blues, fusion jazz, hard rock, and punk is generic?

You could say boring (opinion), or tasteless (part of the appeal), but since you said generic... :rofl-lol:

    dig:

    they play generic fusion jazz

    generic emo

    generic "blues"

    generic hard rock

    generic "punk"

they only skim the surface of those styles, don't make them their own, and have no imprint:

jack of all trades, master of none.

it's better to be reeeally badass and unique with 1 style of music than it is to be really horribly mediocre at 7.

it's kinda like bbf's amp: the line 6 digital shit-stack whrein every amp sound is a button away.

now, there might be a setting on that amp that says "twin reverb" and another setting that says "AC30".

the twin reverb setting might kinda sound like a twin, and the AC30 setting might sound more like an AC30 than the twin setting.

however, if you compared the "AC30" setting with a real AC30, you'd rather just play the fucking real thing. see, the real AC30 is only good at being an AC30. it does not know how to be anything else......the line 6 dial-an-amp is a cheap imitation of a ton of classic sounds, but is not able to accurately replicate one of them. why? cause it's too busy worrying about how many fucking dials it has than actually being a good amp.

i think you can buy them at wal-mart now.........

Do you own over 2500 albums? I do. And let me tell you, they have done very original shit.

Get the fuck outa here with your stupid fucking comments. You have 2500 albums? Who gives a fuck that tells me nothing about how you understand music. It tells me you have no life and are a boring fucking stale person. That's something to be proud of. You obvioulsy dont know as much about music as you would like others to believe you do, with your stupid comment on Ron being a better guitar player than BH. Even Ron himself will admit he is not Buckethead. Are you insain dude? Next you will tell me how Ron is better than than Steve Vai. Go back to sleep. But instead, you will give me some BS rebutle how I know nothing and I should listen to you because you are so informed. Is this a joke of some kind???

Are you kidding me Ron owns Steve Vai. Steve vai is so overrated. He is like pop music in the guitar virtuoso community. Hell Vai can't even play the blues he admitted it himself. He's certainly a pioneer and has influenced a lot players similar to Van Halen or Jimmy Page but he's certainly not the greatest or even better than Ron. Vai is like 1st year college where as Ron is like at the PHD level. but even Ron isn't the greatest.

Look people are ignorant and don't know much about guitar playing so they worship guys like Vai and Buckethead because they don'y know any better and haven't got the intellectual capacity to appreciate the better players. If there has to be someone who is the greatest guitar player on the planet it goes to Allan Holdsworth and thats not my opinion its the opinion of the all the greats from players like Vai to Eddie Van Halen, Buckethead, Ron, Greg Howe, Brett Garsed, Frank gambale, Malmsteen and Shawn Lane. Does anyone know who he is NO. People don't even know who Shawn Lane is.

You arent even in that guitar player community so stop thinking you know your shit when you know nothing at all.

Before Buckethead most GNR fans hadnt even known what alternate speed picking or sweeping was. They see a guy do it and they start thinking he is the greatest guitar player ever. Buckethead is good but like Vai is overrated. Those who know Paul Gilbert and Racer X and know Paul's shit know what Buckethead's all about.

If Buckethead's the greatest then God knows what Paul is.

Bottom line if you like it you like it if you don't you don't but to compare and contrast musicians, disect the music and to judge who's better you have to know you're shit and most people don't. Thats the same reason why people listen to crappy music, movies, tv shows and radio because they'll get into anything thats easy to digest and marketed to them.

  2. Ron's the only reason I'm into this band. I woulddnt give a flying rats ass otherwise. I used to listen to GNR back in the Illusions era when I was 12 and I lost track for over 10 years. Ofcourse during that time I got into virtuoso guitar playing and I first heard Ron on Guitar heroes compilation with Chopin Fantasy etude. I remember being very impressed at how unique and different his playing was. He is the last really original guitar player the world has seen and its always uniqueness that I look for in guitar players and boy is he unique. I tried picking up Chopin Fantasy on guitar and its one of the most difficlut and at the same time beautiful pieces ever. One of the sickest pieces on guitar.

When I heard the new GNR guitar player was Ron Thal I was like WTF thats insane and probably the coolest thing ever. He totally deserved it. I was really happy for him because as a fan of virtuoso guitar players I've often been angry and frustated at peoples lack of appreciation and knowledge about these amazing musicians. These guys are the equivilent of Bach and Mozart on guitar and so few people gave them their dues. I don't care whether people don't like Ron or can't appreciate his playing because it is for a niche audience. A lot of what he plays is like appreciating and understanding theoretical physics, boring and difficult to understand for the average person or even the average musician. So I'm not surprised at all at peoples dislike about his playing etc.

Whether he fits in GNR or not is a personal opinion. To me I couldn't be happier and its a way to stick it to the man who for the last 12 years has put out crap and oppressed good bands and good musicians. So more power to Ron and I hope not only does he have the time of his life, gets mass media exposure and the opportunity also provides him with lots and lots of riches.

  3. It's about Ron not having his solo or Don't Cry for the first time ever on this tour.

This ain't the first time Ron missed out on his solo. This happened atleast once before for sure if not more. Izzy replaceing Ron is unlikely considering Ron is Buckethead's replacement and the virtuoso in the band. I mean they don't necessarily"need" Ron in that Fortus and Finck can play Buckethead's solo's ofcource they won't be of virtuoso calibre but they can fill in obviously. Which is why it makes more sense to conlude that Axl really wants Ron in the band and hopefully he ain't getting fired like some loser posted before.

About the conversation that HollyWoodRose84 (real nice guy!), I want to make sure nothing gets lost in translation from a personal casual conversation to being quoted on the web for the world to read. The intention of what I was saying is that *hopefully* the album can be released close to schedule, I had mentioned the chain of events that albums go through - mixing, mastering, working out all the label bizz and promo... in my experience, everything usually takes longer than planned, but that's just my experience. Like I've told the 82,396 people who have asked me in the past 10 minutes about the album release, lol, only GnR management can legitimately inform y'all about that kind of stuff - I'm not involved in that end of bizz, I don't have the answers. Even if I did I wouldn't tell ya - it's not my place to be giving out news, that's what management's for, to let ya know wussup when they feel the time is right. Now, if I start doing management's job, Merck is gonna come out and play "Don't Cry" instead of me. Trust me, ya don't want me as the manager, and ya don't want Merck playing guitar. LOL.

Tonight's GnR show in Portland Maine has been canceled. Management will let ya know wussup. No worries, all is cool, all upcoming shows are on schedule, see ya soon in Worcester.

So last night in NJ we were in the hall about to walk onstage and were stopped - a bunch of gear suddenly died. Took a good minute to fix it. We were on the opposite side of stage waiting for the show to start, along with you. At the end of the night I switched to the fretless to play the Night Train end solo and my wireless died. All that gear was fine a few hours before at line check. Shit just happens - when it does, it sucks as much for the band as it does for you - we're on the same team and want the same thing - a great show. Maybe that's the heart of what was upsetting about the occasional negativity on some forums, when it feels like we're against each other instead of *with* each other. Love ya, appreciate ya, and am with ya.

  5. Ron hands down, why because I've actually tried playing his songs and if you guys dont beleive me check out Guthrie Govan's transcriptions for GFTPM.

Buckethead rips off Paul Gibert so much its annoying but you guys wouldnt know Paul Gilbert cuz this is a GNR forum.

Ron owns Buckethead both technically and creatively.

  6. And thomase actually sent mail to BBF again! :rofl-lol::rofl-lol:

Thomase, I'm sure you've already written to Bumblefoot about it. Could you please post your back and forths? I'm sure we'd all love to read how the saga unfolds.

like i said somebody said they wanting to see what ron whould say if i message him on myspace and i did and i posting the screen shot and there screen name that wanting to see the message and if you listen to the audio ron said he was cool with me ;)

thomase you just dont get it do you????

READ BETWEEN THE LAINES BRUTHA READ BETWEEN THE LAINES!!!!

Ron was just being polite and it was his passive aggressive way of saying

"STOP EMAILING ME WITH FUCKING RETARDED BULLSHIT!!!!"

Stop emailing him already. How old are you by the way, you act like a fuckin 13 year old.

  7. HisRoyalFatness,

As I read you're review I got more and more depressed. If thats how it actually went down its pretty sad. I guess sitting behind the computer and reading messageboards from diehard fans might create a somewhat distorted view of reality but I never imagined the crowd response fom the show yesterday could be that bad.

Anyone else back up this guys claim.

I'm sure if you just watch the video feed, it'll seem better. You'll only see the front rows, where people are more into it.

One thing you can say about this new band is that they're troopers. When Axl walks off stage during a song, shows up late, fucks up lyrics and shit - they stay with it. Tommy Stinson rocks his balls off. Bumblefoot - who seems like a pretty shy, down to Earth guy - is making great strides with his stage presence. Fortus always plays with vigor. They fight through it. Try their hardest, and I respect that.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm almost more interested in seeing the rest of the band than Axl these days. I wonder what this band could do if they had a front man who worked with them instead of against them.

People were confused and appalled by the Beautiful solo. Lots of boos and hisses where I was. But what the fuck do you expect? If they came out and played 98 degrees or N Sync songs, they'd get the same reaction.

Yeah I was worried about the crowd when they were playing "beautiful". Granted its a great song but I think its safe to say that crowds such as these are not gonna appreciate it, especially when they've come expecting to see Slash.

Well privatereserve at HTGHT wrote a completely contrasting review:

First of all I was in loge 6 right in the middle. It started getting a little nuts. People started throwing bottles at us in the loge and started fires. I really thought their might be a riot or get cancelled it was out of control. Then all of a sudden you heard the sound thats in the jaws movies. Hell yeah and then here comes Jungle.

This concert was simply amazing. Axl and the band were so tight. All the people around me were all into it old and young. Plus all the solos and new songs got great responses, I was very surprised. Finck, Fortus, and Bumblefoot are amazing guatarist they sound so awesome live. For christ sakes even The beautiful solo had a great response. Axl sounded sooooooooooo awesome, unbelievable. Every song was nailed right on. Let me know guys and girls if you have any questions.

    Who should I beleive.

  9. Ron's outro solo is great especially the first 2. The first solo he plays just like Slash and the second solo he shreds it real nice but within context. But then he starts sweeping which IMO dosent sound as awesome but he lands on his feet towards the end real nice.

Richard plays it with real passion and does it well. I have no complains against him actually in any department.

Unfortunately, Fincks solo used to make me want to pull my hair out but MAYBE I've gotten used to it. Honestly, after seeing RIR 3 where he played both the 1st and 2nd solo and completely butchering them, I'm just thankful he plays the 2nd one now.

I'm actually still surprised at Ron's playing because he can play absolutely mind blowing guitar and dosent even play 10% of what he's capable of in GNR.

  10. That was amazing.

Didn't know he sounded like that either, also, has he been putting a little weight on???

    Scottish cameraman was cool.

Actually its a new video on youtube but it was recorded a few years back.

Ron's actually lost a lot of weight since then.
