  1. I never lost hope. I never had it so how could I lose it?

This was "tentative". Didn't mean anything really. I'll have hopes when there's an actual release date.

Yes, but Axl told his fans that they would try their hardest to make March 6th the official release date, and that if it DIDN'T happen we would be made aware as quickly as possible.

If it's not out by March 6th, then they know by now. There's an eight week turnover, which means he would have had to already give Universal the album. If he hasn't, then he's fully aware that March 6th isn't a realistic date.

The very, very, very least they could do is post a brief notice on their website.

It makes the band in general look terrible considering there's less than a month and Axl's March 6th goal is still highlighted on the main page of the official website.

It's not a matter of March 6th being definitive. It's a matter of sticking to your word. It's not that hard to have someone else post a news update to an official site to let fans know less than a month in advance what the progress is. Otherwise it looks like he's trying to hide something - and the press is going to pick up on this soon and make it look worse.

Rolling Stone printed part of his open letter. If we go much longer without an update, you don't think an editor at RS is going to end up printing another Axl diss?

Oh yeah, they definitely handled this unprofessionally and I totally disagree with it. But to be honest I wasn't expecting professional treatment/attitude... which really is sad.

Probably put in the best words. This is totally ridiculous on the band's part and they've already lost inordinant credibility or liking on my part. Oops.

  2. 67 pages of anticipation? Are you guys crazy!

To be honest, GnR is actually on the back burner for me now. What with the rumors of the The Police actually attempting a reunion (well, possibly) is too much for me to handle. I will drop at least a 1, 000 bucks on that.

As for GnR, I'm happy waiting for some details, but hey, I can listen to "Better" on my iPod... I'm fine.

I'm still psyched, hell I wake up to a GnR flag draped over my window, but there's too much in music right now to be psyched over. From new Radiohead to Smashing Pumpkins/Police reunion plans... wow.

GnR will own the month of March though.

  3. Maybe you'll be able to go to your local music store and purchase a foot guitar. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I think the album is going to be huge, but I doubt it will change music. Guns N' Roses are a Led Zeppelin or Who type band. They're just so much better than everybody else that their style is not really easy to imitate. The reason Rolling Stone cares so much about Axl is because he's a one of a kind. They don't have characters like Axl Rose in modern music. Axl is a Jim Morrison type character, the difference being that Axl lived to be midldle age. Axl is attempting to again elevate himself to his pre-Cobain suicide days of being the biggest rockstar on the planet. I think the only influence he might have though, is to cause older bands like Metallica and U2 to try and make halfway decent albums again. Axl is going to be like a really pissed off Michael Myers coming back to Haddonfield on Halloween night. 20 Years after Appetite for Destruction appeared, Axl Rose is back, and he appears to be set to dish out a little Chinese Democracy for all of us in 2007.

Niiiice Halloween reference there, one of my all time favorite movies.

I suggest you watch the fucking UYI DVD if you want that. It amazes me that all these people wanting a reunion are so stuck in the past. I'm happy with the GnR we have today, but if a reunion happened I'd want some fucking new songs, and I wouldn't want the same fucking stuff as 1992.... RQ with a fucking rap in it again? And not even a new one the fucking same one. Same intros to songs.... same order of set lists. I know same set lists have been an issue with the new band, and I bet the reunion wanting people have pissed and moaned about them as well, and all you want is the same as 1992? Bizarre...

That's very depressing. I know you might be joking but I do find it concerning that all people want from a reunion is one big nostalgia wank... sure that might be fun for a while, but it would have to be leading towards a new album for it to be worth it for me.

    LP

Agreed. Though I think I'm much opposed to a reunion at this point, the whole thing WOULD be just a nostalgia act.

  5. Now, whos gonna be a new band manager?

Lets f'n hope there wont be additional delays, explained like - you know, we had to take time to do auditions :krider: :scared::D to hire a new band manager, we have to have one, y'know...

    get what im sayin?

You didn't hear? I'm the new manager, only my name is Mitch Melodius, you can call me Melo.

Okay, I won't write too much, but expect the album on February 14th, Axl wants to spread his love on the very blessed day of our Saint Hallmark.

Also, expect McFarlane to issue an Axl Rose line of figures to interchange with their HIGHLY popular and AWESOME Slash figure! Each figure will feature two lines from that HIT single "Sweet Child of Mine!"

    Soo buy them all!

Also, expect a reissue of Terminator 3:Rise of the Machines, the James Cameron Cut, with Gun's second single, "I.R.S.", IN THE MOVIE! Eddie Furlong did some press in Shanghai last month and is stoked to work with Axl in the video! Cameron and Axl chatted over some tea and talked about what it was like to go on such a long hiatus! He might even direct the video! It's all crazy!

Allllso, expect a guest appearance of Izzy Stradlin on the new album and a possible addition to the band? I put the question mark to stress how awesome it is and up in the air it all is and how this is so exciting.

The online store will also have a pre-order the new album and receive a "Better" single available for download with a rare b-side of "Riyadh". That should be out by Christmas!

    What else?

Oh yeah, any questions... be sure to e-mail me at melo@dodgeit.com

And about the US Second Leg Tour... there's still six months between now and then, you might just walk along the streets and hear them play!

    EXCITING STUFF!!

---okay, my dream is over and I'm still staring at a half empty Red Bull and listening to "Civil War" for the fortieth time. Fuck.

  6. Well I got a flag rock3

If you guys outside the US dont have ordering options soon.....pm me and I would be willing to help you out.

I got the flag too! Hanging it right above the comp. I bet the store is taking in some good amount of dough just from this board alone.

I hope things stay good, I can't make up many excuses to friends and former GnR fans about Axl and all. I love the new guys, but I need some signs of something happening and not press releases left and right and excuses.

I'm putting in a few cards and taking Rose for his word, I guess this flag is kind of a sign of that, and I hope I don't put it up in shame.

Yeah, totally lame post by me, but whatever.

  7. Here’s the thing, while I see what you’re getting at you’re not exactly comparing apples to apples are you? The same exact thing could be said in reverse, you have no idea the kind of expectations / pressure is put upon you once a certain level of success is achieved.

Let’s say you’re a car salesman and you’re a natural at it, you sell 10 cars+ a day, everyday. If someone could do something like that for any length of time they are going to get the reputation within the business, after a while people aren’t even shocked anymore, they expect it of you. Now, let’s say the realization of these expectations suddenly hits you right in the face; one day you were just doing what came naturally, now you’re suddenly aware you’re not the average cat and you need to keep this up, it’s inner pride. Some people thrive on this kind of pressure and some people have a harder time dealing with it. It can freeze you up bro; you stop living for the day and start trying to plan ahead, make sure you don’t disappoint, PROVE you’re not just a flash in the pan.

The hard reality is that nothing lasts forever, people are people and NOBODY is perfect. Now, just for a second, try to imagine what it must be like when seemingly EVERYONE is watching your every more, not just your peers. It’s gotta be a damn scary thing, suddenly you feel bigger than life. You went from being Joe Anybody to being someone people listen to, someone people ‘worship’. Everyone around you kisses your ass, everyone wants to do you favors; everyone wants to be your friend.

It’s easy to sit back from this side and pick apart someone that has had a lot of success; it even becomes this sick bonding type thing for people that don’t have lives of their own, it’s nothing but high school bullshit but on a world-wide scale.

Forget about this album everyone here is so worked up about. Seriously, imagine for a second that it’s YOU up on that stage looking out at TENS-OF-THOUSANDS of other people that are all staring at YOU, hanging on your every word, watching your every move. What would run through your mind? Would YOU be able to handle THAT? Now, once you reach that kind of level you’re OBLIGATED to try and keep that alive. People depend on you, not only your fans but also your family, your friends, and the people that work for you. You become your own company AND your own product. It’s not an easy thing to maintain.

A 9-5 is tedious, it can suck but at least at the end of the day you don’t get chased down by people asking you to take a picture, give an autograph, (and lots of other crazy shit you can only imagine). Nobody threatens or thows shit at you when you're trying to do your job. Sometimes you deal with it better than other times but you’re still ONLY FUCKING HUMAN. I’m not saying this dude didn’t make his own bed, all I’m saying is before you be so damn quick to judge you need to take the time to think about all sides.

I agree. Hell, go watch the new dvd for Motley Crue's Carnival of Souls Tour and the process by which the life on the road is like... it's pretty crazy. It's fun and definitely a lot easier at face value than say a clerk job, but it's a ton of work... and the expectations are insane.

Plus the idea that hey you might fail any minute and lost it all?

    I'd say so.

I used to be a frontman of a band and it took a lot of emotional strength to do some things and put yourself out in front of people and all. I can't imagine thousands of them.

  8. I don't think the date is soon, I think it is probably Spring/Summer 2007, and I hope it is because somebody decided that they wanted to release 2 albums of material at the same time instead of 1 album this year, one album next year. That would be worth it :)

If Frank actually recorded 5 songs, that is pretty close to the number of songs that were unfinished back in January (26 are nearly done, 32 total).

January 13, 2006: Axl attends a Korn tour launch party and talks to Rolling Stone. He mentions that they're working on 32 songs, and that 26 are nearly done. Of those, 13 are slated for the final album.

    Edward Rose @ Nov 14 2006, 04:43 PM:

Also, I remember soemthing Frank told me backstage@msg. And I'm only telling you all this because he said it WASN'T secret.

    Me-

So is it TOTALLY top secret how many tracks you recorded on the album?

    Frank-

    No. It's not secret. Five...[/quote]

How fitting that they only play five new songs live... maybe they can do a real surprise and just release an EP of five songs called Chinese Democracy. Haha.

Then we can wait for a double album in five more years called, "Use Your Illusion III and IV"

    Hooray!

How unfortunate that GnR already used Lies as one of their records. It'd be perfect now. (Yeah, I know that was fucking lame... whatever. Haha.)

I'm waiting patiently, but as far as this? I'm not taking anything seriously yet. I'm gonna start chalking up the same sentence every other fan says, "I'll believe it when I hold it in my hands."

    Yep. It's come to that.

  9. It's amazing the hatred for this band, especially on the comments from the article. Some of them I agree with the more I think about it. Oh well... I think CD is going to have a problem with appeal.

  10. I'm starting to lose my interest now I think. "Better" got it's fortieth wind last night, so i'm abck into the track again as if it's fresh in my head. But I really am not as hyped as I was before Nov 21 though. The media is turning heads to this and the GnR camp won't say anything... this is crazy.

Maybe this is the best type of promotional thing to do, I don't know. I just find it so odd that a camp can't come out with a press release or ANYTHING about ANYTHING they do.

I mean they're out and about and just ignoring the idea of this album while everyone is talking about it. There has been no interviews or anything as of recent?

It's like they're on another platform or world and we're talking to them through a wall. I don't know, that simile went to hell.

  11. Why can't this band get good opening acts? I'm watching the Use Your Illusion DVDs, on the first one now, and I think Axl sounds better today on a lot of songs and most of the time I don't even notice the other members as much as I recall.

I still hate that I had to sell back my ticket because of the switch, but travelling 200 miles to see him, and waiting til 1AM(I would have had the Jacksonville show), I think I'd be a little pissed, mainly because I'd have to find a hotel room.

Anyway, I think if they had better opening acts and well some buzz other than speculation, this would do a lot better tour wise.

Also, it's a bit lame to compare to an aging dinosaur like Aerosmith and say that the Crue have any power behind those ticket sales. The recent Crue tour before they were openers is like one of the best selling tours and watching their DVD recently, that show had fans that were ultimately pumped.

I think that could happen with GnR if they were a band being seen. I walked and picked up my issue of Rolling Stone in the mail box last night and thought, "I wonder if Axl will ever be on the cover, based on this speculation?"

Stuff like that would make good press, maybe a sort of Wonka-esque thing. But for now? I mentioned in September I was seeing them live and people were like, "What? Velvet Revolver?" or "What? You mean the Axl Rose band?"

I mean, they need more flair in the press and they don't communicate at all.

    Yeah, my mind wanders.

  12. Guys! You didn't hear?!?

Axl is waiting to release the album and date at their Beijing show, in which he will announce, "Chinese Democracy starts now!" and from the stage he will proceed to the prison for slanderous speech and the album will come out to help pay bail.

Yeah, my mind wanders in my History of Asia class.

  13. While not entirely necessary, it looks like Kaneda has done his research. I agree too. I just can't believe people on this board have to throw shit left and right at him. It's just an observation.

Now, I can see people getting pissed at shit like the resurfacing of that one thread yesterday about Merck confirming the dates. That kind of pissed me off.

As for Axl, the whole ordeal is like a relationship... an old relationship. CD is his new girl and he needs it to be the best looking, most kick ass girl to make his old fling(VR) jealous.

Yeah, as juvenile as that sounds... I think that about sums it up.

Hey, Axl, from those leaks..(in the best Mayor Quimby voice possible)... that broad is nice.

Anyway, I just want to hear the album like you all, but considering the leaks sound good, I'm fine. I'm all for a reunion which would let Weiland go back to STP and have VR dismantled, like it should be. I hated Contraband and felt the members would be better in their respected places.

Nice thread Kaneda, it's been dead here lately.

  14. It's weird to judge based on leaks, though I feel like I've heard the album from the leaks.

    I'll do a rundown...

Better - Easily their first single. I know and read that people don't think this has a chorus, well, the appeal is that hook... "No one ever told me..." I can't tell you how many times at the office or in class that I whistle that over and over again. I think that's a song that will own everyone on the airwaves and will be a new sound for everyone to enjoy.

There Was A Time - No band makes music like this anymore and to be honest, this song takes me back to the classic Gn'R days and I think the solo at the end is one of the most moving pieces of instrumentals to come out in awhile. Since I received the leak in June, my iPod lists that I've listened to the leak 56 times. And everyone I showed it to really just light up when it goes. It needs to be clearer and the vocals need to be louder and stand out, but other than that, I think this will be the Sweet Child everyone wants. Nobody on here as a GnR fan can say that last kick off of a solo doesn't make you want to cry in joy... I think everyone agrees on that already. The verses are strong, I'd like to hear the "wrong time for you.." part a bit more clearly. Other than that, I've said enough... it rocks.

The Blues - Haven't heard anything but the live version. I adit I was sketchy about Axl's voice in the beginning, but after hearing some clearer live versions, I do think it sounds great. It's not November Rain, but will be billed in the future as that type of song. I think the piano is catchy, but for some reason reminds me of Catcher?

The Catcher in the Rye - Someone mentioned this started out as a good idea and went sloppy? I agree. I think there are parts in the song that work so brilliantly that it could make the song a rock epic and classic. However, there needs to be some strippage of extra guitar parts or maybe the remastering will sound better. (Which it probably will.) The solo, as usual, is great and Axl's harmonies bring about some killer images. Another classic.

Chinese Democracy - Not sure if I dig this at all, but makes a decent opening I guess? I don't know... I'm not a fan on full industrial, so I don't know about this one. The lyrics sound alright, but forced... and though I hate how he sings "Down on the Farm", I understand the differences in his vocal ranges. I think this song is definitely the weaker of any songs, but the edge is there. I think some left over nu-metal kids will dig this big time though.

I.R.S. - I think of T3:Rise of the Machines because of that damn video on YouTube and I kind of wish it was in the movie. The image of the motorbike in T2 with "You Could Be Mine" is the first thing I think of when I recollect my memory of T2. This song has potential, but some of the lyrics are a lil' lame. I think in today's day and age, magazines will rip this song to shreds based on the lyrics alone. It does rock though and has some stems and roots from the Appetite days, but with this whole NIN vibe going on too.

Silkworms - Everyone says this won't be on there and well, thank God. I really don't like the song, but I'll admit the beginning ambiance is pretty nifty. Other than that? Bag it.

Madagascar - I've heard live versions, so called demos, and some short leaks... the song is still to be memorabe to me. I like the name, the lyrics sound clever, but the melody just doesn't stick with me as much. I still blame this song for the buzz kill in the 2002 VMAs... (Honestly who decided it was a good idea to stick a slow song between "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Sweet Child of Mine" or "Paradise City"?) I don't know, it will grow... you can't love every song too. There are some parts I love, but still I'd like to hear a final version.

All in all, from what I've heard, this sticks to the walls of my head nicely. I read some comparisons to Contraband and I laughed a bit. Not because I'm one of those GnR fans who just have an utter hatred for the band, but because that album and every other supergroup these days are such a laughing stock. Most of the songs on Contraband would all sound better with Axl, yet the only thing to sound semi-decent is "Slither", a mild post grunge song that just makes it look like Slash "always wanted to be grunge."

These leaks are classy and what rock and the genre GnR's in is all about. I think with some touch ups on quality, etc... Chinese Democracy could be the album to save people's interests in music or just undervallue a lot of other's. In all honesty, there will be people who will hate this and lots who love it.

I don't know, they need to release it because the interest is now, especially when magazine after magazine has 4 star show reviews out of 5 stars and the enthusiasm is there. But Summer 2007? Fuck, that's probably going to be more realistic the more I think about it.

    Well, there's my two cents.
