he is alright but if you want that type of voice Brett Scallions, former fuel singer and now sings for the doors, is a better option in my opinion. Similar voice and much more powerful. Seems to be much more energetic live too. He could do the VR songs just fine plus be more of a hard rocker that Slash seems to want.
