British vocalist PHIL LEWIS recently performed to 180 people at Manifesto Bar in São Paulo, Brazil, and gave an interview to local LoKaos Rock Show, when, amongst many topics, discussed his time with GIRL, the crazy 80’s hard rock era, Nikki Sixx and his book, Tracii Guns, and praised Guns N’ Roses frontman W. AXL ROSE as “The Eddie Van Halen of all singers”.

    Check out the video below:

  2. Back in the early nineties, GUNS N’ ROSES basically ruled the mid-spheres of planet Earth, and as all of us know, the then-already-disbanding classic line-up of the band took full advantage of all the regard boeuf that comes along with the perils of rock n’ roll decadence.

During their first full South American tour in November/December 1992, as of their stay at the luxurious Hyatt Buenos Aires Hotel, W. AXL ROSE, enchanted by the 1000 + fans that just WOULD NOT leave the hotel premises [all of them determined to hang in there in some sort of vigil until the band left the country for good], thought it would be fun to have a ‘Jackass’ moment, to which GENE KIRKLAND, one of the band’s former official photographers, volunteered.

Waving a deck of dollar bills, down to the lobby come Axl and a big chunk of his entourage, among which, Kirkland, sporting nothing but a towel, a baseball cap , boots and eye wear.

And there, in the same lobby where seven months later [after the very last classic GN’R concert] Rose would cater a pocket show at the grand piano for a crowd of few, Gene dropped his bathing regalia to the ground, only to be detained by the local police – which seemed to be having fun by frisking an intoxicated nude foreigner.

Not many registers of the dare have surfaced in the last twenty years, but the two snaps below surely are worth many - LINK WITH NUDITY - CAUTION!!!!

  3. Bad weather - no excuse for bad, ball-less performance. watch Motley Crue's performance in Buenos Aires in 2008, when it POURED DOWN, there was nobody mopping the floor and the band delivered one of the 5 best shows of their lives, beiong that one of the members was SIXTY YEARS OLD and suffers from ankylosing spondilitis, which tends to inflammate under umidity. Detail: they came on in due time.

The age factor - bullshit. See Slash and Duff and then observe Axl. Who has aged more gracefully?

Professionalism - When you MISS your flight from Los Angeles to Rio due to....?, it sort of becomes obvious you do not have much concern for what should be your ONE AND ONLY chance to solidly promote your first US tour in 5 years. Why could he have missed a flight? His car broke down and he had no money for a cab? His brother, who was supposed to give him a ride didn't show up? You do not have to be a professional singer to acknowledge that 'no sleep = no voice'. So he arrives in a country at lunch time for a gig at night?

Set list - Didn't have a problem with that. But by having no news songs in it, I think a new album won't come out before MAYBE 2014.

Forgetting lyrics - Come the fuck on. This has kind of followed Axl ever since 1991, when he demanded monitors with lyrics supposedly because there were 'too many' of songs from the UYI albums to be memorized. FUCK THAT. Professional singers can remember up to 4 hours of lyrics in opera plays, in 2, 3 different languages and don't go through this kind of embarassment live. Why? Because they CARE about putting a good performance, they REHEARSE, they know you are there SUPPORTING THEM.

I do think the band will get tighter and tighter and will be in a different shape when they hits the US. But honestly, why would somebody pay $$ to see the exact same show they saw back in 2006 [in the Unites States' case]? No new songs, stage production is no big deal, there is nothing to be promoted or talked about by radio or TV.

Who would have thought that, by 2011, Slash would be sober and touring solidly, never showing up late, never being dragged onstage, getting fat paychecks to elaborate 20 second solos to the industry's top acts, releasing albums as a 'solo' artist, putting out a live DVD [something GNR fans may just FORGET about] while 'the man with the plan' would have come down to this?

  4. An EP/CD of exclusively live songs would be interesting if composed SOLELY of soundboard-recorded tunes onto a great dynamic range (like 24/96 Khz); other than that, everything it pretty much 'out there' if you chase them. As for a bluray disc, I have no idea to where would somebody get 1080p pro-shot material (at least legally) on Guns N' Roses.

Either way, I used to work for a cable provider and taped the 2002 VMA performance right off the sattelite onto a VHS tape at the night of the event. I played it once to check the quality. If that can be of use....

  5. I was there.

For what I remember, Axl went after his notorious white leather jacket he has let go off at the beginning of the show, in a corner of the HUGE stage. Once he got there, wearing his 'stars and stripes' lycra shorts, people grabbed him and almost tore him in half, and as security pushed him back onstage, they took his shorts.

This story was a classic back in the day.

  6. By Eric MacKinnon

Taking Dawn frontman Chris Babbitt has revealed he was asked to throw Steven Adler out of a Guns N’ Roses concert by Axl Rose – but he says it was something he did with a heavy heart.

Babbitt was working as security at a GNR show in his home city of Las Vegas a few years ago when he was ordered to turf original Guns drummer Adler out by the Rose.

    He told RockAAA:

“I like the new Guns N’ Roses. Their new record had a lot of good songs and some killer solos. People knocked that record just because it wasn’t the old Guns N’ Roses and I think it’s cool to knock Axl because he is such a dickhead.

“But then plenty of people are dickheads. He is who he is and he doesn’t try and make excuses. I worked security at a show in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel where he had us kick out Steven Adler.

“Adler had bought a ticket for the show but Axl picked him out of the crowd and came off stage saying I’m not playing unless you get that motherfucker out of here.

“I was with the entourage that did it and a couple of us were asking if we really had to do it. Adler just said ‘Ok, that’s a shame. If he feels uncomfortable I don’t want to ruin his show. Can I get a refund?’ He didn’t put up a fight or talk any shit either and we gave him a refund without any problem.

“I don’t get why he did it but that’s personal between them. We toured with Slash in the States and he was the best dude on the planet. He was so nice to us and he didn’t even have to talk to us.

“He is the real deal rock n’ roll and when he is gone I don’t know who is rock n’ roll any more.”

Taking Dawn are a band on the rise on both sides of the Atlantic – in Europe largely thanks to their cover version of The Chain.

But Babbitt admits the Fleetwood Mac track wasn’t their first choice.

    He continued:

“We were going to do Fuck Like A Beast by W.A.S.P but our producer wasn’t keen on it and felt we should aim high with big aspirations for the record.

“We also considered Def Leppard’s “Mirror, Mirror” but we’d been talking about how heavy Rhiannon is and how it was such a dark song and a lot of old (Fleetwood) Mac is big and powerful. We thought The Chain had all those slams in it and we are a band thats all about impact and drama and being big with epic shit which sounds huge.

“But we like being catchy and we’re not the evil band and we’re not interested in singing about pussy as we’d rather eat pussy than sing about it.”

  7. Axl's got a girlfrieeeeend:

    http://colunistas.ig.com.br/vivimascaro/2010/04/05/ellen-jabour-e-a-primeira-dama-do-guns-n-roses/

    Ellen Jabour é a primeira-dama do Guns N’ Roses

I wont translate this to English for now just to get you guys curious, LOL.

  8. As for the SHM-CD: if you're going to listen to it on your computer drive, not much of a difference. Visit Ektorasclub.com and check it out.

As for the vinyl, it might sound better IF you have a 5,000 dollars stereo. Many people are heading back to vinyl for collection's sake, claimin it sounds better than compact dics, and it may - as long as you have equipment able to reproduce it properly.

  9. Maybe it's a little hard to explain to our foreign comrades why we in Brazil are so DELIGHTED at Axl stantind those people up...so let me try to...

The attendance to this gig would be the E! kind of celebrities I have grown to despise and consider the cancer of our false-idol driven society...wannabes without talent that are famous for nothing...media persons and chaotic bitches who feed nothing but the gossip industry. They stand for everything ROCK goes against.

So, when AXL FUCKING ROSE stands these bitch-ass-poseurs at some fancy disco club, man, we should make March 11 a national holiday!

  10. May you fellas excuse me if this subject has already been covered here, but I just can't seem to find Chris Pitman in any recent picture or video pertaining the Guns N Roses lineup...I am not sure, but he's gone AWOL since the Asian tour.

Was he booted? Personals problems holding him back? Are they hiding him backstage as some kind of 'hidden musician' like Ozzy does with his keyboard players? I presume no, once he was even in the CD booklet.

    This hit me this afternoon.

    Any info to share?

    Thanx in advance.

  11. I live in Brazil and am SERIOUSLY interested in buying new, non-used tshirts from the 2006 tour, specially the North American ones that have the new logo in "oriental-like" characters.

Will pay for the shirt, shipping, etc.

BLACK X and XL preferred. Please email me at krisiunhead@yahoo.com

We do NOT get them around here at ALL, so me and a few friends want to grab a few.
