  1. GREAT album...I could be wrong but...the intro riff of Anastacia (after the classical guitar part) stems from way back in 1993...check out the slash guitar solo parts (slash + dizzy actually) in the 12, 14, 15 JANUARY 1993 Tokyo live bootlegs, tell me if that's not the same early (and i think slower, I haven't listened to it in years) riff...the progression is there.

somebody pull that bootleg and let us know...i couldn't find it on youtube right away...

  2. How can you judge guitar players if you don't even want to listen to them playing?

I didn't judge his guitar playing though, i was basically saying that there is nothing in his image or in anything anyones mentioned that makes me want to hear him fulfilling the role he does now in GnR, the Robin Finck role for want of a better name for it.

he pretty much plays Slash's solos note for note, but I like his tone better and he's (at times) more consistent than Slash...

Tone is a matter of opinion, as pretty much everything being discussed here...to me, Slash's current tone OWNS any guitar tone in new GNR, when hearing AFD songs...if in doubt, listen to the "live in stoke" slash CD or any of the soundboard live shows from last year after he got his AFD100 amp...no one's coming close unless you're making the right mods and very few have actually achieved that (check metroamp forum)...

  3. His guitar was out of tune during SCOM. He usually nails it a lot more than Robin.

Seriously. Shit happens! All you haters know damn well DJ can play the fuck out of SCOM.

No he can't...he plays it like the average youtouber plays it out there...he's average at best...I've said it before and I say it again :violin:

  4. I'm also on the boat of those who think his guitar playing abilities are limited (as in technical and feeling-wise)...here's better from the LA show...

4:09 - 4:50 is just painful to hear/watch. I mean, to me, this is probably the best guitar part in all of CD, that little part right there...and *Ashba* doesn't do it justice... not a happy camper on that particular song :anger:

  5. If DJ is so average, why did established veterans like Sixx and Axl pick him for their bands?

because in hollywood, once you're in the medium, and you know people, you may get lucky. that's what happened to him and to a lot of folks day in and day out in other bands...he just happened to hit the jackpot in a band like guns.

average player at best. can't comment on his producer skills as I really don't follow his work outside of guns (i do have both six am records where he plays though).

  6. Ashba's solo sounds like dogshit I can't believe people were praising that tripe...

Fortus should be the lead in this band ffs.

    +1

Ashba is a generic and ordinary 80s guitar player. There are thousands of dudes on youtube that play as good as him. there dozens/hundred of dudes in hollywood that have the look/charisma/average-playing ability that DJ has.

He's just a lucky dude but his not unique by any means. The sixx AM solos are just more of the same and over produced...

Fortus is a more complete player. Is technically on another level, and has that "bluesy feeling" that's much needed in GnR.

I agree 4tus should be lead and not just the "gilby clarke/izzy stradlin" of the band...
