I really love the 'book' analogy Bumblefoot made, it's perfect.
Yes. A book where the first 1/4 is absolutely amazing with a strong plot/characters and the last 3/4 is absolute garbage and only read in hopes that it might one day incite the greatness of the first 1/4.
But you're not bitter.

..he is mr invisible. Plays keyboard mounted to a wobbly stand, which looks kinda ridiculous.
I remember when someone from Eat My Silkworm, HRS I think, made a wiggling stand for his keyboard.
It was mindray. And it was glorious.

I think The Real Thing is often overlooked due to the dated production sound, but that's more than made for by songs like Epic, Zombie Eaters(with it's pleasantly bizarre lyrics) and the amazing title track, which is just epic.
Patton is one slick, stylish fucker in that Ashes to Ashes video. Thanks for the links, Teroz.

Strapping Young Lad's "City" is an amazing trip, likely due in large part to Devin's age and mental state during that period in time. The album comes across as genuine and spontaneous - all of Devy's fucked up, confused, paranoid thoughts are layed out in audible form for world to hear. Later SYL never struck the same chord with me... it's as if it became Devin's "career" band. Regardless, I've always had the utmost respect for the dude, and if isolating himself and his family in northern Canada is what the dude wants - go for it. Can't say I blame him, really.
I'd really like to give more of his DTB/solo stuff a listen.
