Is the racism and poverty thing of any validity at all in Belgium? Not valid to excuse acts of terrorism obviously but is there an issue with poverty and prejudice with those communities? Has there ever been?

Nah, it has been disproven many times. A lot of radicals don't come from a poor background. Quite often they come from a middle class background and have enjoyed higher eductation.

And off course the amount of immigrants who live in poverty is higher than the amount of indigenious people who do, but the point is that this is not only the fault of bad policies. I can tell you that Belgium has spent heaps of money on all kinds of integration programs, but as it turns out, a lot of immigrants are not in the least interested in participating in them. The fact is that quite a lot of them enjoy benefits from the moment they cross our border. Those benefits already grant them a way better lifestyle than they had in their own countries, so why bother working. On top of that, most of them are involved in small time criminal enterprises or they earn money on the black market. Really, while Molenbeek is a so-called poor economy, it is full of big Mercedes and BMWs that I would have a VERY hard time paying for, and I dont earn all that bad. Why is that, really?

There are obviously some prejudices towards people from that community, but what do you want? Gays who see a group of northern-african youngsters on the corner of the street while heading home after a party who cross the street and take another way, do this because of prejudices. Is it wrong to do that? In my opinon it is not, since it's a reasonable choice to make, since the chance that they do not get insulted, beaten up or worse is bigger like that. Some people like to talk of the "cowardly, racist, fearful europeans", but it is just common sense really.

I don't agree with this at all, and it almost seems like you are glossing over (in my opinion) a very important fact, that there was plenty of discrimination going to 1st and second generation immigrants. I can speak from my own personal experiences as well.

I also believe that immigration, and economic migration isn't so much the issue more so the way it has been handled and dealt with. Esp so in the UK. Its racial preachers and the like that have come over from the mid 90's into europe that have started this, with full knowledge of the authorities as well. No one really wants to have a look at the root causes of these things. There are many angry pissed off generations of immigrants who are heavily discriminated against. Couple that with strict wahabi style preachers (Hamza and Qatada in the UK for example) and there you have it.
