Awesome, lol. Are you talking about high profile shows with the pizza delivery ruse?
For sure. Big Ampitheatre shows. The first show i ever did it for was Poison and Cinderella in like 2002 haha. Also did Green Day / Blink 182 / Jimmy Eat World around that time. I snuck into the Chinese Democracy era of GNR but that was just by rolling under a fence haha.

Oh man...i've snuck into soooo many shows over the years. Me and a couple of friends would do it to shows we didn't even like just to try.
My first job was a pizza delivery guy. I used to show up to shows with a pizza bag and my uniform on...they would never even question it...they'd open the gate up right away. Haha.- 4

It was definitely lame, but it was fun just because it was GNR and because we didn't belong there....oh...and did i mention the pillow?

Wow!
but what happened? Did someone talk or officially introduced the box? Did you recognize anyone famous? Were there other fans or just media?
Nobody said anything. We got in there a little late so maybe they did before? I didn't even see media.

Wonder who financed it. The band? Yet none of the original 5 were there.
Yeah i was surprised that none of the band showed up. Universal put it on it seems.

Ya fucking blew it.
Eh. I've heard all of these songs plenty of times. Hearing different versions are cool, but don't excite me as much as a GnR was here pillow.

Didn't see him.

Was this a Nightrain Exclusive or whatever they call their Official Fanclub these days?
No...trust me there were NO fans there. It was dead as can be. Just music industry people. Probably 100 or so. I did see Slim Jim Phantom, but he was the only one I recognized.

My friend and I have really good luck when it comes to GNR. When the Troubadour show happened, my friend was 1st in line (I was 12th) and just by sheer luck and instinct we saw the first show of the reunited GNR.
Fast forward to tonight. That friend tells me there's something going on at MacArthur Park in Downtown LA and that he heard a rumour the OG Guns lineup might be playing (spoiler: they didn't). We went down there and quickly realized it was an invite only industry party. We cased the joint and realized it was locked down with security. We spent about an hour out front, but decided we had to get in (or get thrown out trying). I walked up to the ladies at the door and told them i was on the list... gave them my name and waited for them to pour over the different lists. After looking for awhile they told me that they didn't see my name. I looked confused and told them the label should have done it and went on about how this "always happens." After a minute or so of this, they said "you know what...don't worry about it, here's a wristband." SCORE!
At this point we still don't really know what's going on, but we walk up the stairs and see this (they took everybody's phones but forgot to take mine, so the pictures aren't the best because i had to be careful):Listening stations for the new set. Unfortunately i was too excited to be there and didn't actually listen to anything.... (in hindsight....i'm bummed i didn't). Next we went up the stairs into this big ballroom with a giant replica of the box set:
On either side of this were the contents of the box set in glass cases:
There was also a photobooth with GNR flyers and logos all over it. The event itself was really stuffy and industry-like and they weren't even playing the record (which was weird)...there was a little GNR mixed in with other stuff like the Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains.
As we left, we couldn't help but grab ourselves a souvenir. These were on some of the couches and chairs, and once i saw them, there's no way i was leaving without one:

I remember seeing this dude at Tower and the Troubadour. Didn't know he didn't have a wristband. What an epic story. Glad the dude made it.

Man. what a night. I still can't believe i saw what i saw.
I haven't searched but did anybody mention that the shirts were different at the show than they were for the tower event? They were similar but said "I was there" on the back. Pretty cool. i had to pick one up in addition to the other couple i bought.
The band sounded amazing, and most importantly....seemed really happy. Axl's rasp was unbelievably good from down in the front. Although he tired a bit towards the end, nobody seemed to care. Duff's background vocals were great...especially on the CD songs which sounded even better with this lineup. The better intro was awesome.
When Axl fell, I was honestly worried the show was going to be over but he layed there for a second and then smiled as he kept going.
As much as i wish Izzy was there (he was always my favorite member) it was hard to care. I heard people talking about how impressed they were with Fortus. This is a good thing for him too because instead of being buried as the third guitarist, he was able to showcase his skills and play some solos himself. He looked extremely happy as well.
I was up for 24 hours and am up again after about 4 hours of sleep so i'm a little haggard mentally, but all i can say is that it was a once in a lifetime event and i'm still processing it.
Edit: Here's the slightly different shirt design especially for the show.

I've heard a rumor that they will be selling tickets at the old Tower Records tomorrow morning. No idea how credible it is.
Also spoke to somebody VERY credible who said it's happening but that Axl could change his mind at any time if he gets jumpy about it. I guess we knew that all along but we'll see what happens.

This is insane... GNR Tribute band at the Whiskey.... Matt Sorum guesting with somebody at the Viper Room (literally 50 feet from the Whiskey) and potentially GNR at the Troubadour.
-
So just to add more fuel to the fire. I work in the music industry in LA. I've asked around and a lot of "in the know" people seem to think it's on at the Troubadour. Obviously that tells us nothing more than we don't already know, but where there's smoke.....

For the hell of it, I will still be going. I live here and I do think they seriously led people on from the moment Adler was scheduled on April Fools Day, and the when theopening bands were using a photo of Adler (the band) as their promo, the whisky insisted they use this one (attached) and then as soon as the adler show was announced as cancelled, suddenly for about an hour, those same tickets were being sold for 199-400 because people thought they would still be able to use them and that it had been set up from the start. I had what I could call "LA insiders" let me know there will be a show, but seriously I don't believe anyone. My connections to GnR are long and reach far back, although I have not seen or talked to anyone in the band in years except saying hi to slash at a little league game we were both at in the Valley many yrs back. In 1988 I gave him the Hard Cock Cafe Hell shirt he wore in the Paradise City video after watching their show onstage at the Coronado theater in Rockford, IL, after slash meeting me backstage. The following year I was living in LA, as I still am, and was with them when they shot its so easy at the cathouse, mainly because I was married to someone who was in a band with Andy McCoy from Hanoi Rocks, and I am in the video although it is hard now to tell it is me. I joined this forum because I was trying to see if I could get any more hints about the show, and I saw that someone had mentioned and screenshoted some of my tweets and Facebook posts.
I don't think gnr are playing anymore, but I think I will still go, just because, why not?'
the speculation about the ultimate jam night or the troubadour being possibilities are both being talked about here among people who may or may not know about such things. (Everyone still seems loosely connected in this industry and I remain friends with lots of the bands from that era) and seriously no one really knows shit, but lots of people claim to. Lol.
I would even put a remote possibility on them doing a warm up at Vamp'd in Vegas. This is seriously now the home away from home for lots of the rock world and lots of people live there now or have homes there and somewhere else, it doesn't have to be LA, although it seems the most plausible.
The whole thing had gotten kind of funny now, and I think people will still show up at the whisky on the 1st. the way they hinted in so many ways, as well as Colby and HR seeming not to be aware they were even booked led me to believe that was made up, until I also saw the opening band stuff.
Have a great day all!
What band was your husband in? Shooting Gallery? I'm a huge Hanoi / Andy McCoy fan.
Thanks for the stories.

I rarely log in here, but just wanted to say that this is one of the more interesting developments in a while. I'm really interested in this story (more so than the GNR news really). Even if it turns out to be nothing, thanks Saltzy for making it interesting.

The exact number sold in the US according to soundscan (as of this week) is 657,158.
No way it's platinum in the US. It shipped Platinum because of the Best Buy thing but that's it.
-
99 cents is a fair price for the "only available at Best Buy" sticker alone, considering it's still first print.
I encourage people to buy the remaining copies of CD at their local Dollar Tree store so Axl fans can finally claim they have sold "millions".
My local record store has a copy on vinyl for $19.99.
Is the vinyl a hard-to-find item by now?
Don't buy it the vinyl sucks. I returned it at least 8 times because there were skips in it. Finally gave up.
As for the sales here are the latest according to Soundscan (US Only):
Total: 655,896 LP: 27,360 CD: 532,421 Digital: 96,114
As far as singles go. Chinese Democracy (the song) has sold the most with: 196,424
Next is Better with: 79511

Going Down is the only one i've been able to find. Unfortunately i haven't heard either Better version or BITW yet (hopefully i'll get hooked up). Either way, i think Going Down is amazing. I'm a HUGE fan of everything Tommy's ever done, so i'm biased but i think it's great.

The show was incredible. Hard to believe that after listening to Appetite with my dad on Vinyl when i was 6, I finally got to see GNR. So stoked to hear Tommy get to do 'Motivation' as well. Amazing.
Oh, and look who i ran into:
-
Oh well. The song samples are new.

SPIN interviewed Tommy recently. I thought this part was interesting:

You've worked closely with Axl for a long time now. What's the secret? You figure out after a while what battles are worth fighting for. That's the big thing. A lot of times, whether it's Axl or Paul or just about anyone, they'll tell you they want to hear what you have to say, but they really don't. So you've got to walk a fine line. You have to play the moment for what it is.
Also Amazon has clips of Tommy's new record. Sounds great from what i can hear:
-
for some reason I expected it to be a bit shit, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Good little song, VERY bob dylan but there's nowt wrong with that, especially as Tommy can sing.
There's no need to compare to GNR as it's not supposed to sound like GNR. But it's refreshing to hear something a little more relaxed from the guys. Hopefully Axl can appreciate this simpler side of music for a few tracks on the next album.
Anyone have any idea of the best song from his solo album ? Wouldn't mind a quick listen see if I'd like his album!
Cheers
LP
All of Tommy's stuff is great.
Bash and Pop was his first post-replacements band... Very Faces/Stones vibe.
Perfect was after that and more punk/power pop-ish.
Village Gorilla Head is his first solo album and it's all over the place musically. Listen to 'Someday' and 'Motivation' and you'll get a good idea about the rest of the album.
