Just got back from tonights show.
To give a bit of perspective, this was the 9th time seeing them, first being when they opened for The Lords Of The New Church back in early '86 at Fenders Ballroom, last being in 2006 during the Universal Amphitheater run when Izzy guested for a 3rd of the super long set.
Anyway, tonight's show was good up through about 2/3rds of the set. The last 3rd dragged quite a bit mostly because of the pacing of the tunes included. I'm aware this was a mildly condensed version of the arena/stadium set but I have to say, if I paid good money to see this especially at a crappy stadium, I would have been bored much of the show and probably pissed afterwords. The major thing that made this a good show was the setting (the Palladium) and the band itself. I've never been disappointed musically by whatever lineup Axl has surrounded himself with, hell I thought the 12/19/06 show with Bumblefoot and Co was actually better performed than the '92 UYI tour LA Coliseum show I saw.
I got to the Palladium and parked just before 8pm when they were just about to start letting people in. The line wrapped almost completely around the block the Palladium and it's parking lot is on and it took almost exactly an hour to get in. I saw one guy selling a few hard tickets for about $300+ each. I didn't hear anything about a ticket drop earlier in the afternoon. Once inside, the place filled up really quick and by about 10pm, people were starting to get restless. There were a *lot* of trashed people stumbling around, puking in the restroom well before the show started. Close to 10:30, band came on and launched into It's So Easy and the crowd was into it and the band and Axl sounded pretty impressive. Slash especially sounded awesome. Fortus was often so low in the mix it sounded at times like a one guitarist band. I noticed the keyboard chick was really helping on backup vox when Axl was hitting higher notes.
What quickly became a weird distraction was *every* instrumental break, guitar solo, etc, Axl would duck off stage into this little black tent on the side of the stage. Often, he'd come out in a new shirt or a hat or whatever. I think he changed clothes more than Stevie Nicks w/Fleetwood Mac. I get sometimes a singer might feel awkward or want the band to have the spotlight but in this case it seemed like Axl wanted minimal involvement on stage if he wasn't needed to actually sing. I dunno, maybe he has a weak bladder or needs to hit the oxygen tank. Vocally, I thought he was pretty decent, certainly not the range of the good ol' days but I've heard worse. I have to say, I haven't been paying much attention to his health or appearance since the very beginning of the tour a few years back so I was a bit shocked that he's become such a chunky guy. Anyway, at least he didn't utterly suck singing like a David Lee Roth or (cue douche chills) Vince Neil.
I think the late start the instrumental breaks, the slow and unfamiliar tunes especially after Sweet Child Of Mine took a bit of wind out of the show. People were streaming out after SCOM and the back of the floor thinned out considerably for the last half hour of the show.
Still a good show but it certainly scratched the itch to see them one more time.

The $175 Citi tix are all gone but the stupid-high priced Early Entry tickets are still available and I bet they will unload whatever's left at the box office tomorrow as $175 priced tickets for those willing to wait all day in line for a ticket drop.

By 'glitches' you mean Ticketmaster's usual bullshit of trying to give the illusion of false demand to make fans buy tickets at prices they've inflated themselves, because they have the monopoly on selling?
I despise Ticketmaster.
Yeah, it's pretty fucked up and I'm pretty familiar with their BS "flex-Pricing" gimmick even though I only go to less than half a dozen shows per year anymore. But this is the first time I've seen it used the first hour a shows gone onsale.

Just scored a "regular" $175 Citi ticket an hour after the initial onsale. Was moved off the waitlist about 9:30am and had to go through several browsers both on my phone and desktop and multiple texted phone codes and passwords before I could find one that would actually get through whatever glitches are going on with TM's ordering process. Seems like there's heavy demand but the hoops people have to jump through to complete a ticket buy is just insane and probably putting a lot of buyers off this gig. Tremendous hassle but worked out in the end.

I checked in on the ticket situation early this morning for the Palladium show and discovered that TM/LN was offering a previously unadvertised $475 Early Aaccess GA ticket option.
So when tickets went onsale, those priced tickets seemed to sell slowly and actually dropped down to $400 after about half an hour but as demand picked up again, the price shot back up to $475. Just now, I got notification I was moved off the Waitlist and buy whatever scraps are left over. Ya, fuck that machine. TM never ceases to amaze me with their fan scams.

Waitlisted here as well.

It will be brutal trying to score a ticket for this show even though it's a Citi card member event and tickets are supposedly starting at $175 before fees for floor GA. Make no mistake, this will be a tough, expensive ticket to get into if you don't score right outta the gate on TM at 9am Friday. I would not be surprised if there's a small number of tickets sold at the box office during the day resulting in a giant, block long line on Saturday to generate media/news interest. I would also not be surprised if this is a shorter than typical 30+ song show, running maybe 15-20 songs much like the original 4/1/16 Troubadour club pre-tour gig was.
It's funny, I actually discovered this was happening by accident trying to get tickets for the latest Bauhaus reunion shows at the Palladium. -

That's cool, but the guy who's babbling nonstop is annoying as hell.

One thing I forgot to mention (because I'm dead tired no doubt, lol!) was the incident where a couple drums on Franks kit caught fire from the pyro raining down on him at the end of one of the songs (I forget which). It wasn't a massive blaze or anything like that that I'm hearing some people say on other forums but it was enough to warrant a couple roadies hurridly replacing drums while Frank was bashing away finishing the song. Axl did make a funny Spinal Tap comment about just blowing up the drummer for the next show after the song.

Surprisingly good show. Not great, but much better than I expected going in seeing the new lineup for the first time post Illusions tour. I didn't get out until 2:15 in the morning and got home around 3am. Bear in mind the last time I saw GnR was in '93 during the co-headlining tour with Metallica. On the other hand, I've seen them 7 times total going back to a support gig in '86 with The Lords of the New Church at fenders Ballroom so I've been lucky enough to see the band from the beginning. The only new song I've given a prior listen to has been "Better" so I was probably in the same boat as about 70% of the rest of the audience when it came to the new tunes. I honestly haven't been that interested in the new album so far and I'd like to hear finished versions, not shitty low-res demos or live cuts.
GnR actually came on "early," at least for them (about 11:45). Parts of the show including the 1st 3 or 4 songs were outstanding, mostly anything from the Appetite For Destruction album which I think they played 10 of 12 songs from. A really generous show songwise, probably close to 25 songs. We got most if not all the occasionally played tunes at most other shows, including Down on the Farm, Used to Love Her, Rocket Queen and Chinese Democracy. We even got "Think About You."
Of the 5 songs from the unreleased CDalbum they played, the only one I really liked as well as most of the audience judging by the responses was "Better" which was early in the set. One of the highlights was Izzy joining the band for most of the old songs for the last hour of the show including "Used To Love Me" which has always been one of my favorite GnR tunes. Interestingly, Izzy looks like he's aged into a well heeled middle aged Englishman. He really looks like he'd fit in age-wise with The Stones or The Who now. He certainly came off as a well grounded guy onstage. It seemed he was supposed to join the band earlier in the set but someone told Axl "he left" which left Axl a bit flustered after he introduced him ("welcome to my world"). Axl looks pretty fit and decent even if it appears that corn row hairstyle is a one piece thing cemented to his head like a helmet. However, his voice was *very* strong and impressive the entire show.
The downsides were all three guitarists got solo spots that ranged from ok, to a bit stupid and would kill the momentum. The newest guitarist, Ron Thall did a nearly note perfect version of Eddie's "Eruption" for his spot. The band is really bloated and could lose a guitarist and a keyboard player, imo. It reminds me of Iron Maiden's current lineup were you have each guitarist take a piece of a solo in every song. It was kind of funny when Izzy and Bach were onstage with the band during "My Michelle," there was 4 guitarists, 2 singers, a bass player, two keyboard guys and a drummer all playing this relatively simple, straight ahead rock tune.
Aside from "Better," I have to say the other 4 new songs come off as bloated, overdone tunes like a cross of the worst elements of "Cival War"and "Estranged" by way of Meatloaf. The only "classic" song that surprisingly didn't work for me was "You Could Be Mine," mainly due to the beginning which Frank the drummer just didn't play very well as the guitar intro by Frink which didn't capture the feel of the original version.
And when the roadies moved a grand piano to the middle of the stage for a few songs, the band would play what I'd almost call rock n' roll cocktail music while this was going on. Axl would duck offstage any chance he could get, probably for a hit off an oxygen tank.
I missed most of Helmet's set and walked out on Sebastian Bach's set by the 2nd song and roamed around the upper levels killing time. Bach has a really strong voice and still looks like he did 15 years ago (which is kinda like a hot chick) but the guy is just obnoxious onstage to the point I wanna hit him. And his mediocre solo band comes off as a 2nd rate Skid Row cover band.
Probably the funniest point was at the end of the show as the band was finishing "Paradise City" when a couple guys up front caught Axl's eye obviously pushing or something. So Axl alerts security and has the guys thrown out which happens as the band takes their farewell bows. As far as I could tell in my area about 5 rows back from the pit, the asshole factor was pretty low. Also, a few chicks flashed their tits at Rose throughout the set which is always welcome. The venue which holds about 5,000 had excellent seats including GA pit tickets available yesterday but by showtime, the place was close to being sold out although there were a *lot* of scalpers practically begging to unload their tickets. By the encore, about 40% of the people had bailed out of the show (a lot left during the 2 song Chinese Democracy encore before PD), no doubt due to the late hour.

I figured I'd start a setlist thread for tonight's show. I'll be leaving for the Ampitheater in a bit and texting messages with setlist updates, etc to my wife here at home to post in this thread if she can stay up.

Somebody here mentioned that they wouldn't be surprised if the LA shows were going to be cancelled tomorrow or the next day.Ugh.The 17'th show is sold out! In my opinion, you just don't cancel sold out shows, especially it being Axl's first in LA (minus Inland) in so many years.
Anyways,I was just wondering what everyone thinks about the possibility of them all being scrapped. Thanks in advance.
i just got off the ticketmaster website and they r still selling tix for bakersfield...i dont know how ticketmaster works or how often they update everything but it wouldnt make sense to sell tx to a cancelled show.. to your question if the statement is true then only the 2007 slated concerts are cancelled so i believe you r safe but r we ever really who knows. i had fresno tix and bakersfield tix and before all this stuff went down i bought oakland tix cause i wanted to see them twice. so hopefully i will see them once! rock1
As of 8pm this evening (friday), none of the Universal shows are close to being sold out and are still listed as being onsale. Sunday has tix available in the loge dead center in the 8th row (about halfway back from the stage) and the Tuesday and Wednesdays shows have similar seats but way off to either side of the venue all available on TicketBastard.
All the other shows are now listed as cancelled on TM's website.

Yeah, I think the next show I'm catching which is Idles will be just a bit faster paced.
