Smashing Pumpkins are going on tour soon in a couple months. http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/
I'll probably hit up the DC date, and depending on prices, and if I can get anyone interested to go with me, maybe the last date in Philly.
I saw them play the tower in 07. I caught the third night when they played an acoustic set before the electric. It was pretty good but I was more impressed with the opening band, Explosions in the Sky.

wow i don't think that there's ANY band whom i would fly to go see. I might follow a band around the the nyc-philly area (as I've done with godspeed you black emperor), but even them i would never fly any where to go see.
tonight i'm going to see a weird and awesome band Six Organs of Admittance.

meh. odd future is okay. albini's producing work is legendary, sure, but I've never really dug how he seems to flatten songs out. that said, I saw shellac last year and they were pretty funny.

I've always had a problem with music criticizing religion. As an atheist I find it a cheap topic for a song, as it kind of misses the point: if you truly believe god doesn't exist, then why write a song to an absence? Of course, people write songs to absences all the time, they miss their girlfriend, their boyfriend, they mourn their father, mother, or they are celebrating the loss - but here, it's different as its god that's put into question, a rebellion against the Creator that governs (in many forms and degrees) the majority of western civilization. A rebellion against god is a rebellion against authority, and authority is translated (even in the secular world) as a government, bowing down before the great deity in the sky and doing its bidding (and in a government claiming secular ideas, this is lightly disguised by politically correct language, but still very prevalent). A god does not exist without its authority entrenched in ethics. The tricky part, however, is that I believe ethics exist without god.

also in this one, if you listen real closely when plant is doing his "we've done 4 already" thing, you can hear another take or something of the guitar riff start right before the proper one does.
that was bonham doing the "we've done 4 already."

Plus Scott is really depressed, divorced, and is broke now money wise.
Poor him. He's kinda the definition of "wash-up" right about now. I'm saving my opinion of Cornell until the Soundgarden album drops, but I agree with most of the positive comments about him.

i was standing next to him one time when i was in a delaware amusment park (rehoboth beach) and i refused to shake his hand because i don't like anything he's put out since 1994. the them crooked vultures album had just come out and i thought it kinda sucked.
-
I saw rush a couple years ago and most of the old songs were detuned. I'm not saying this in any disrespect to Geddy because those high notes are still fucking high, but those high notes are just not as high.
Really? What tour? As far as I know, 2112 is the only song which has been detuned in a while, and that's still the case. I'm a little fuzzy on the '90s tours, but to my knowledge the only song in the 00's and 10's that's been played tuned down in 2112.
I think you're right I'm sorry, I did some research, I thought it was natural science or witch hunt but I watched some videos and they're in the same key.

Thinking about going to ATP in Asbury Park this year on Sunday only.
So far they have Portishead (Curating), Mogwai, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, and Earth confirmed so far. The only thing is that it's for $110 (for 1 day pass) and that I will have seen all of the bands except for Portishead.
Is it worth it????

No. The whole hipster mentality that values obscurity and niche culture to measure a band is nothing more than pretentious short-sightedness. If an obscure band gets popular I think "Wow, the wold must be catching on." If the band gets worse as it gets more popular, it's the music that should be measured, not the level of popularity.
I've seen a couple bands before they were popular and have gotten a few results -
in 2008 I got into and then saw MGMT a couple months after Oracular Spectacular dropped and they were pretty terrible live. A couple months later, Kids dropped as a single stateside (October) and they blew up in 2009. I saw them again in June 2009 with a new backing band and they were one of the best and most crowded shows of the festival.
in 2007 I saw The Black Keys and thought they were one of the most amazing shows of the festival. I saw them again the next year at Terminal 5, and in the last year they kinda took off after Tighten Up was huge hit. Now they're headlining festivals and I couldn't be happier for them.
In 2007 I saw Kings of Leon and thought they were shite. Slept through their headlining set 3 years later.
