  1. I hated when Bucket was in the band - just a travelling circus act is all it made GNR into. Robin's old look was idiotic as well, and his new look is much more fitting. Now, I also have to admit that it is scarey when a guy can change his look that much - obviously he is/was a little confused somewhere along the line - your average person would never guess that was the same guy. As mentioned Bucket can play well, but he is a complete moron and looks even worse. I think I could even handle the bucket on his head, but wearing a damn facemask on stage all the time - get real, the guy was out to lunch trying to create a legendary image for himself. Ya, the bucket thing is sooooo cool, gimmie a break - who can take that seriously. The only reason someone would do that kind of crap is for attention - a real musician will just play and let that do the talking. Bumblfoot - I could care less if he comes or goes, just another filler like most of the band. However, the band is more of a band then they have ever been and have gelled quite well. Bumble is really the only one who doesn't "fit" IMO. Slash is slash - I don't think for a second he is/was weird - he has always been who he is and has never changed.

As for reinventing the song - I don't care for it. I like a song to be recognizable at least, not just someone again trying to make a name for themself going off on a tangent during a classic tune, which was the only reason he joined the band in the first place. He was hoping to become a household name off of GNR - damn shame it didn't work and he had to crawl back in his hole. For those outside of GNR fans that ever even heard or saw him (MTV), they would probably just say "oh ya, that freak that was in GNR for a short time". Nobody really knew or cared what he was up to before, nor do they now. GNR is in good shape these days and much more fitting to the name - as close as they can be without the original lineup in place anyways.

do you have any fucking clue what you are talking about? axl begged bucket many times to join before he actually agreed--gnr just wasn't his kind of thing. axl then invited him to a christmas party, gave him a rare leatherface doll, bucket took this as a sign, and joined. that does not sound like someone who wants to make a household name for himself. the guy is the most modest, down to earth human being you could ever meet, and the guy is a genius when it comes to guitar. please do some research to figure out why he dons the bucket, but i know you are too much of an ignorant asshole to do that, so i'll tell you. he wants the music to speak for itself. he would rather have the liberty to walk down the street to pick up a quart of milk, without being hassled by anyone. in other words, to be normal. he created his bucket image to get out the music, while actually creating quite a few cool ideas for albums. and again, bucket had been around for nearly 10 years before he joined gnr. he didn't need to make a name for himself, he was already well respected in the guitar wielding community. i dont know what else to say. do some research before you speak from now on.

  2. I don't post here often, but I scan through almost daily. Thought I'd weigh in on '06 vs. '02:

I too saw them on both tours ('02 at the Fleet Center in Boston, and '06 at the Warfield in San Francisco). I liked what I heard both years, but to me the main difference has less to do with what any individual member was playing and more to do with how the band members have been interacting with each other. Granted, Buckethead's schtick was a bit of a distraction, and his playing was 'avant garde' compared to other GNR guitarists, but I think he did the best he could to make his style fit with what the band was playing. I got the distinct impression in '06, which I didn't get so strongly in '02, that the guys in the band now are really comfortable with each other and genuinely enjoy playing together. It showed in the way they would sometimes lean against each other, or smile, or just the in-between-song noodling that was going on. The noodling itself was tight! Maybe that comfort level is coming through as a 'bluesier' rock sound because, since these guys know each other better now than they did in '02, this is allowing the band to sound more like Guns N' Roses (which has always been a heavy, bluesy kind of rock). I was just knocked out at how together the band is now, much moreso than Axl's vocals. I think I was hearing Axl much better at the '02 show in Boston. But the band... I'm totally sold on 'em.

i may not totally agree with you. but i really respect your opinion, since you are about the only other person in this thread who has seen both versions of this band. thanks for the post. :-)

  3. did you see them perform in 2002? so when you saw buckethead, axl dressed in sports jerseys, tommy in plaid suits, brain in flannel and finck in a spaceman outfit, you thought "boy, like, this is industrial"?
i was meaning the songs like silkworms and rhiad and the bedouins you can't tell me those weren't industrial

silkworms was created by Chris Pittman and Dizzy Reed who (shock!) are still in the band. they already said the song was scrapped and ironically, they still have the option of playing Rhiad (according to the Del James set list), so quite frankly, your argument is worthless. Dizzy Reed and Chris Pittman were the industrial influence. you rag on them then, you rag on them now.

  4. they were kinda shitty in 2002 but i didn't see them as metal they were like industrial but now they completely kick ass rock1 rock1

did you see them perform in 2002? so when you saw buckethead, axl dressed in sports jerseys, tommy in plaid suits, brain in flannel and finck in a spaceman outfit, you thought "boy, like, this is industrial"?

  5. I think the band sounds more bluesy and are more a Rock band than what they were in 2002. Now, they make guitar covers from Jimmy Hendrix (little wing), some blues jam etc... while in 2002 they sounded (and looked) more "Metal" wich sucked.

    2002

    - Buckethead + Goth Finck gave a "metal" aspect to the band. It was not Guns N' Roses. Richard Fortus was the only Rock n' Roll guy on guitar.

    2006

    - Robin has completely changed, he sounds more bluesy and he is more confortable. He is more him than what he was in 2002. Richard Fortus is still the same Rock n' Roll guy.

    - Bumblefoot, although a shredder, is more of a Rock shredder than a Mattal/weirdo one like Buckethead. He is not scary and isn't a freak. Sometimes he can also sounds bluesy when he wants. He is good when he doesn't shred like a pig. He is better when he slows down, he sounds much better.

    - Axl is 10 times better now. He is Axl the Rockstar again. The good old Axl. He is him again.

I have the feeling they are more "Rock" now.

what is all this "he is him" crap? how many years was finck in nine inch nails? he was one crazy asshole in that band, and he dressed that way because well. that's how he dressed. not because "he wasn't him".

are you scared of buckethead? and how does putting a kfc bucket on your head make you "more metal"? let alone being goth?

sorry but your whole post is idiotic. i am too annoyed to criticise anymore of it.

  6. to be honest, it sounds like he's screwing with the interviewer a little. repeating the same "get paid" crap. he is pretty ghetto.. watch his dvd, he's quite the dude. ive read a few other interviews with brain, and he's basically a smartass in all of them haha. he knows gnr is a big time gig, so why not have fun talking about it.

  7. Well this simple. Frank owns the shit out of brain. I saw them in May (Brain) and in November (Ferrer). The drumming was more exciting to me with Ferrer. I thought Frank played better too. Im a guitarist but I know when a drummer is good and Brain was boring to me, in Guns. Plus i dont like him because of his "only for the money" comments. Frank is just an awesome cat. Hes the drummer for Guns N' Roses.

when did brain ever say he was in it "only for the money"?

  8. my opinion? brain knew the album wasn't coming out this year, and felt he could give up some pointless touring to spend time with his new child. i predict he'll be back for 2007. but.. you never know in the world of gnr.

    www.wayofthebrain.com

If he KNEW (for a fact) that the album would not be out in 2006 then there was a lot more information going on behind the cutains than we've heard even from the open letters and even then he would be taking the risk that he would be replaced by the time he felt like droping back in for the real release.

    My gut says he's out.

interesting. merck did address the issue though, and frank is "just another member of the gnr family".... i guess it would be easier for axl to just phase brain out, since he already has another drummer. he doesn't have to have a "brain bashing" session like when bucket left. and wasn't frank the drum tech before he joined? im not sure about that. seems like Love Spit Love reunion is going on though...

  9. according to brain's official website, he recorded and composed for guns between 2000-2003. it's a pretty new website, so... it also should be mentioned that his other band, Praxis (which includes buckethead, bill laswell, etc) have been making an album for quite some time now called "Profanation (Preparation for a Coming Darkness)." but when that will be released remains to be seen. my opinion? brain knew the album wasn't coming out this year, and felt he could give up some pointless touring to spend time with his new child. i predict he'll be back for 2007. but.. you never know in the world of gnr.

  10. what was the original question? oh yes, the lovely kaneda. i agree with him to a point yes, the new guns guitar work will suffer without slash. he's a great soloist and made plenty of classic songs. it's pretty much pointless to argue about it now since he's been out of the band for nearly 10 years. the new songs alright. im kind of hoping axl unleashes brain's fierce drumming and keeps bucket's parts on the album. axl had two amazing talents at his disposal and I hope he's wise enough to hold onto bucket's parts. bumble... he's hit or miss with me. let's not argue about that. i actually liked finck's look in 2002. he actually looked like robin finck. now.. a jesus wannabe? pshh... bottom line: this is not gnr with slash, matt, steven, izzy, gilby, and duff. so let's focus on the present shall we?

interesting article by the way...: http://www.laist.com/archives/2006/08/21/g...nd_invasion.php

"Hell, you don't even get Buckethead any more."

    amazing show :-) :-)

  12. sly, i greatly appreciate you posting that analysis here. that man knows what he's talking about and I agree with him and moreblack 100%. it's just unfortunate that half the people on this board dont know what 75 percent of those words mean, which is unfortunate, because it really does sum up all of gnr's players very well.

just as a sidenote, i find finck's chemistry with reznor better than axls.. who knows why. i just like trent and robin rubbing against each other. let ur minds run wild.

  13. Ron seems like a shit hot guitarist and a cool guy, but really, he can't come close to matching the perfection that is Buckethead. Really wish he would just re-join guns, but doesn't look like it's ever gonna happen unfortunately  Bucket is a huge loss to GnR in my opinion.

There seems to be a lot of idiots who don't like Buckethead due to his appearence or how he moves around on stage whilst performing live? Jesus christ, get a grip! it's the music he makes with his fingers that matters! You're probably the same idiots who have dissed Finck in past, but now think he fuckin rocks just because he has changed his image somewhat! Stupid bastards.

thanks for posting. i am glad someone with logic was willing to state the obvious. if you are dissing bucket, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about and you have no idea why bucket does what he does. he was an essential part to gnr and he will be sorely missed.

  14. thomase, i've read maybe half your posts, please start posting with some intelligence and think before you type. thanks. overall, i agree with mr. fujaki. he's been here a while. ive been here a while. it's all just bullshit. bottom line: who cares?

i do think what i post dumbass

if you have to ask "who the hell is scott" on a gnr board, you have other things to worry about rather than trying to think of amazing insults.

  15. thomase, i've read maybe half your posts, please start posting with some intelligence and think before you type. thanks. overall, i agree with mr. fujaki. he's been here a while. ive been here a while. it's all just bullshit. bottom line: who cares?

  16. well said dman. as much as i love robin's presence on stage and how he plays his songs... oh wait. thats correct. he only plays other people's songs unfortuntaely. so its hard to tell really what his "originality" as a guitarist really is. Trent had told him what to play in NIN. and axl it seems is doing the same.. must be the submissive type. and for fortus... well. he helped record a groove for N'SYNC. enough said.

  17. what songs leaked???

the hand that feeds, getting smaller, the line begins to blur... the first one was a radio rip, the second is a good quality leak from the album, and the third is also good quality leak from the album.
