  1. I am currently reading Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis.

Its one of those books which are not plot driven, but fully character driven. The title character Alexis Zorba with his free-spirited, often primitive & primeval nature is a stark contrast to the cerebral nature of the narrator. So far it has been a pleasent read. Kanzantzakis does a great portrayal of the Cretan environment.

    I recently finished reading 3 books -

A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - which has to be one of the FUNNIEST novels ever written. Its simple bizzare & brilliant.

The Curious Incident of a dog at the night time - a brilliant tail about a menatlly impaired child, from his POV. The narrative is very apt & very believable.

Amulet of Samarkand - Just a light read the 1st part of Bartimaues trilogy. The title character was brilliant, but the ending was too He-Man-isque.

  2. Pantera didnt do anything in their entire career which could top a single song in Kill 'em all. The first 3 Metallica albums are almost perfect. In the bustling thrash scene of the 80s there were other faster, more brutal bands like Slayer, Exodus, Over Kill, Dark Angel as well as the Teutonic thrash bands....BUT no one was a tighter unit than Metallica. They went on to deliver classic after classic. Pantera isnt even thrash to begin with they are groove metal which grew out of the thrash wave of the 80s. I love Pantera, but you just cant compare them with Metallica. Plus post the Trendkill albums Anaselmo sounds horrible...he tries to imitate Death Metal like growls too much.

The people in here are funny. Metallica loyality was at an all time high tonight. Fact is Pantera has more talented musicians that make much better music, making Metallica look like pussies.

The fact is Metallica and their fans try and imply they are the most ass kicking hard band out there, they are not.

Cant you come up with a more logical answer ?

  3. I hadnt heard The Killers until this week. I must admit they are a pretty good band with decent songs. Pretty tight arrangements too. Though i liked Hot Fuss better than Sams Town.

  4. I recently came accross Talking Heads, what an awesome band. They made some inexplicably complex albums & some of their albums are art rock at its very best. The band consisted of David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison. All amazing musicians. Heads' influences cover a large spectrum indeed.

    Albums to listen to -

    Remain In Light

    Spekaing in Tongue.

    Favourite song -

    Burnin' down the House

    The Overload

  5. Alice In Chains is one of the greatest bands of all time ! And by far the best to have come out of the grunge era. Layne is such a brilliant vocalist as well as lyricist. The layered vocals of Cantrell & Layne make the songs so special. Cantrell was the greatest guitarist of that era too. Brilliant band.

  6. Clockwork is my favourite movie of all time. Really, truely amazing film, makes you want tho rethink about how blurred the lines between good & bad really are.....It was also helped by McDowell's excellent performance, he really brought out the eccentrcitiy bordering on insane. Also the base story by Antonio Burgess is excellent, much of the unique vocabulary of charecters in film comes from the novel.

On a different note, anyone seen any other Stanley Kubrick films ? If not watch 2001 : A Space Odyssey & Dr Lovejoy. The later is the greatest satire/black comedy ever made.

As for Malcolm McDowell he almost matches this role by playing the insane Roman emperor Caligula in the horrible film of same title. The film is terrible more porn than actual porn (they show stuff you rarely see in porn), but MM shines through.

  7. Newstead is an amazing bassist...its never an easy job to fill up for a hugely popular & influential member of a band who died in such a tragic manner...but Newstead did more than a great job. He almost made the biggest mistake of his life by signing in for Rockstar Supernova , good for him he got out at the right time.

  8. Was Steven one of those "members"..he was not on UYI albums...so they are not "GnR" albums ?

Izzy was definitely one of the key members..he didnt go on the UYi tours...does that make that tour a disaster ?

  9. I often wonder if ppl would have been happier if the band was called "Guitars n Roses"...it would be still GnR & ppl now disliking CD would have found it a masterpiece (which it is in the first place...)
