  1. We didn't start going retro until the 2000's. Everyone got post modern and ironic and as much as I loved Family Guy when it debuted, it was right around that time. Bands like Nickleback showed there was nothing new to do other than polish up tried and true chord changes and nothing new has happened since. Rock became cool again for a while in the last decade. Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Avenged Sevenfold, bands that had musical integrity in the 2000's but were still only Polishing up what was left to be done. I've felt that way for years.

  2. You can't really quantify "good." Each band does what works for them. Keith Richards wouldn't work in Pantera, and vice versa. That said, I still have trouble with the fact GNR incorporated a shredder spot in the band. IMO Finck made the most sense, after he took off the make up that made him look like a character from Hellraiser .

  3. In 1995, after seeing how overblown the Illusion days had been, it just didn't seem sustainable so I wasn't surprised to see it fall apart. I think its cool Axl has tried to persevere and complete his own original vision, hence Chinese Democracy. It just wasn't built to last and the musical climate was changing regardless.

KISS tried to do a grunge album a little too late (Carnival of Souls) and went full blown Nostalgia instead. Aerosmith was adjusting,or trying to, as the 90's went on to the 2000's but eventually quit looking forward somewhere between Nine Lives and Just Push Play.

As much as I want a reunion, I wouldn't want to see GNR hit that apex where they only start looking backward. With that said, I'd love to see them make a new album after a reunion, but not like the others have been doing. Motley's last album was full of cliche songs about being Motley Crue, same with Aerosmith's 2012 album (even though that wasn't a reunion). IMO Van Halen's 2012 album showcased they were trying to recreate the past. At least in '96 the Roth VH material was forward thinking.

Either do NuGNR right finally, or a reunion/new album right, or don't do anything as to tarnish still being a band that is actively growing forward, albeit slow as hell.

  4. You don't need a source. Anyone that plays can tell you. ..I certainly can because if there's one thing I've ripped off from Slash in my playing it's playing any slow to medium paced solo with my neck pickup and the tone rolled all the way back.

He ripped it off Clapton to the best of my knowledge.

do you seriously can tell that off that clusterfuck overproduced recording? what if it's all pro tools? Axl tinkering with thta record for so long, i think nobody can tell if it's an actual solo or it's a copy paste thing

You can't really protools a neck pickup tone. Less bite more moan.
