  1. The thing with rap is that for the most part it is remembered by those in the time it came out. Most of the "respected" music has to do with things of today(or that day) which means there's a pretty good chance it's not going to hold up over time and the rest of it I'd equate to Winger stuff from the 80's as just being hitch along that will be forgotten 2 years down the road...but it is the same way with every genre.

I would think a Snoop Dogg best of would sell decent in the future as well as a few others...but let's be honest, the vast majority of Rap artists are one hit/one disc wonders who then disappear within a few years. Then again....that's every genre. Every time someone wants to point out a Guns N' Roses greatest hits discs means Rock/Metal whatever is timeless I'd just point out Skid Row's greatest hits record sales. Comparing Dr. Dre to one of these one hit wonders is like comparing AC/DC to Jackyl. May be the same basic type of music...but there is NO comparison in the long run.

  2. because Dr. Dre has done many things besides Detox over the year including starting a record company(or head of it or whatever his role was with it) or two, finding and developing new talent and producing where as Axl Rose was simply "working" on Chinese Democracy and Chinese Democracy alone.

That and Dr. Dre didn't disassociate himself from his N.W.A. "bandmates" then run off and use that name for his future products. Forget if you like Dre or not or Guns or not, Dr. Dre has been busy doing a lot more then just his disc throughout the years that the public could see whereas Axl Rose only had Chinese Democracy. That's not to say that's all Axl did, but that's all that was seen...finally

  3. So this is the deal: I was thinking about GNR (as we all do a lot!), and something came across my mind caused by the great press release of today. Finally things start moving again for GNR!!! And as the 100% Slash fan I once was (And I still am), I used to keep thinking how fucking Axl 'fucked up' Rose fucked up GNR for everybody. Around 1998 the main reason I could think of why GNR was no more, was that fucking lunatic behaviour of Mr. Rose. He was just impossible to work with. Well, my mom is impossible to work with too, but the result is that she knows what she wants and is very succesfull in business. So 'impossible to work with' could also mean 'dedicated', and not willing to give up your vision.

So today's news made me realise the following: The only one who cannot be blamed for the breaking up of GNR is Mr. W. Axl 'ranting motherfucker' Rose. Think of it, he is the ONLY member who was never interested in any kind of solo shit, he is the ONLY member who did not collaborate with other artists under his own name.

As I think of Axl now I think the following: Either the guy is so dedicated to GNR that he is willing to give up everything in order for GNR to exist, or he has some fucking briliant PR machine which through out the years '98-'06 made me slowly believe he is!!! Anyway, the result is that today we, all GNR fans throughout the world, are closer than ever in enjoying all the pleasure our band has brought, and is going to bring to us in the future. And this made me realise today that there is only one MAN in the world who I need to thank for that: my mother......huh.....fuck no!!! What I was trying to say is: A big thank you to you, Mr. Axl Rose, a big thank you for bringing back GNR!!!

PS. Any fucked up Slovenian poodle-trimmer who will try to make fun of my mom will be shot in an instant!!!

Axl Rose was never interested in doing a solo-record because Axl Rose owned the rights to the Guns N Roses name and isn't a complete moron, not because he's so dedicated to the band. Obviously anything on the Guns N' Roses banner will sell 10 times better then something called Axl Rose just as an AC/DC CD will sell 10 times better then an Angus Young CD. When the rest of the members couldn't get Axl to cooperate with them anymore they had no choice but to do something that wasn't going to be called Guns N' Roses, it doesn't mean they were any less dedicated. Hell, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that if Axl didn't own the name of Guns N' Roses then his music would be under Axl Rose and odds are Velvet Revolver would be called Guns N' Roses. The smartest buisness move Axl Rose EVER made was getting the rights to the Guns N' Roses name.

  4. First, in America it goes NFL, Tiger Woods, then Major League Baseball or NBA dependind on the season as far as sports go. If you don't believe me, watch Sportcenter on Monday and probably even the rest of the week and tell me where MLB is in the show. Even with the season dwindling down and a few pennant races being very close in baseball this year it still ends up AFTER football and Tiger Woods in America. Hell, the only time it doesn't is when the topic of steriods is brought up.

Second, Guns N' Roses associating themselves with any sport, or for that matter any corporation, makes me sad. I want the f-you Guns, not the let's play ball Guns. Don't get me wrong, i know Welcome To The Jungle is going to be played at every football game, but i don't want to see Axl performing at the SuperBowl. Hell, i loved Aerosmith, but seeing them on stage with Britney Spears and the other boy band that was there made me want to puke. I guess it comes from the fact i still like the idea of Guns being against the establishment, not with it.

Third, heavy exposure is not necassirly a good thing. All you have to do is look at Mission Impossible 3's numbers to see that being run non-stop during a sport's post-season doesn't mean you're going to break some sort of records. For that matter, if anyone think's being exposed on MLB's post-season games is a great thing, i suggest counting how many FOX shows that were advertised at nauseam during the post season the last few years survived.

Fourth, the last tour bombed because it's not a true Guns N' Roses line-up and there is no CD out there to show how the new band would sound. That coupled with the fact that my 1 ticket cost $75 leads me to believe that the price was too high for most people who didn't know what they'd be getting. It also didn't help that anyone giving a honest review of a show in 2002 would say they sounded like a very good coverband with a singer who just didn't quite sound right.

Finally, regardless of what i said above, i'll be amazed if this association is nothing more than a link on the MLB website or at most a GN'r ad on one of the back walls for an inning. It's not going to do jack for ticket sales as there are only 3 things that would make tickets sell better which would be to lower the price, release the damn CD already or have a reunion tour.

  5. "Oh My God" was released as part of the "End Of Days" soundtrack which was a movie that bombed. There was no video to it or Guns promoting the song on TV shows of any sort so how anybody can think the mainstream missed it is a little absurd since it was never really put into the mainstream. It wasn't like "You Could Be Mine" which had a music video featuring California's present governor and attached to easily one of the biggest movies of that year, but rather it was more like "Sympathy For The Devil" where you had to be an absolute die hard to even know Gn'R had anything to do with "Interview With The Vampire."

My point is the song "Oh My God" wasn't meant to be a success in 1999 anymore then the Korn, Limp Bizkit or Eminem songs that are on the same CD.
