  1. Endgame has some really, really cheesy moments lyrically. But musically, it's better than United Abominations in my opinion. I think Death Magnetic is a really good metallica record. It's not 80's metallica, but it's way better than the crap they've been putting out since after 1988's ...And justice for all. Since Dave mustaine never really made that shitty of a record, aside from "Risk", I'm going to have to give to it Metallica on this one. Just because they managed to make a decent record after all these years. I'm proud of them. On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me much that Dave Mustaine can still rock out. He'll get my vote on his next record, because overall, I do like Megadeth more than I like metallica. The only Metallica albums that really matter are Kill Em' All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets. And those all have stuff written by Dave, which may have a little bit to do with why those albums kick ass. I know this is completely off topic, but metallica's "Fight Fire with Fire" is one of the best thrash songs of all time.

    You can not under good conscience leave out "And Justice For All" from the list of Metallica albums that matter. It was their most complex and I would argue their best, and Dave's influence was long gone from the band at that point

    No, you're right, I really dig And Justice For All. It's definitely the last Metallica record that mattered. It just doesnt matter all that much to me. I really like track 1, "Blackened" but that record is downhill after that song. It has some good moments but I really like their first 3 records.

    I personally hate AJFA. Other than the horrible production on the album, the bass is inaudible, the songs are unnecessarily long by repeated use of guitar riffs, and Hetfield's voice got pretty 'meh' then. People say it's when his voice got more consistent and his best voice, but I prefer the "screamier" voice used in the first two albums, and somewhat in the third. I much prefer the s/t album, to be honest.

    Exactly. It's still pretty thrash, but yeah Hetfield's voice was meh by then, you're totally right about that. And yeah, it sucks they left Jason's bass out of the mix. I heard some guitar hero mixes (I think that's what they were) of a few songs from the album, with the bass very clear, and it sounded great. Why havent metallica remastered their albums yet? And justice for all sounds really weird, and thin... if that makes sense. It definitely suffers from the lack of bass. When I put that album in, I pretty much listen to "Blackened', maybe half of track 2 and then I go to another cd.

  5. So this year, 2008, we have been blessed with three of the BIGGEST rock n roll and metal acts of all time putting out new music. Things have not looked this promising for music in a long time. We have:

    AC/DC = Black Ice

    I haven't heard the whole thing, but RRT is played every other second and is a solid ACDC tune

    Metallica = Death Magnetic

    Metallica going back to pummeling us with metal. People can no longer bitch about whatever it is they bitched about before.

    And GN'F'R = CHINESE DEMOCRACY

    I mean who actually thought that this would happen. Even if it is not the original GNR, just the fact that it is coming out is phenomenal.

    Anyway, I thought we could discuss some of the awesomeness that this year has turned out to be both for Guns N' Roses fans and for music fans in general. (Feel free to mention any others I forgot, which I'm sure I did)

    Yeah I'm not a big fan of Black Ice (or any Brian Johnson era AC/DC for that matter...) but I agree with you about Metallica and Guns N' Roses. Very exciting times indeed.
