  1. as fare as i know the source for the realese date is billboard. How serious is this source?

i wonder, since the GNR camp has not turned the rumor down can be a posetive sign`?

November would be great, ang The Dr Pepper thing could be give a great promotion for the new record!

I think this guy might be on to something. :rofl-lol:

  2. So when are they going to announce it? It would logical although possibly stupidly optimistic to expect it to be tomorrow (Monday)? Surely to god they've got to confirm or deny this during the week one would think?

    Maybe they won't announce it.

Maybe we really will just "walk into our local record store on a Tuesday" in November and find it sitting there.

  3. sigh great thread

    I kinda lol'd a bit.

I do believe this is happening, but nothing is absolutely confirmed until the band says so. We've been through this stuff before - there were store managers telling forum users back in '06 that it was being secretly shipped overnight, and tons of people were posting that info here, and it turned out to be B.S. Remember the guy who worked at Circuit City or Costco or something and claimed there was a big notice in the employee break room about the secret shipment instructing sales clerks not to tell anyone about the album because it was a "surprise"?

Didn't we also get fake images to support that?

Wasn't the album also supposed to be shipped as 'Lilacs and Bazookas' or some shit? :rofl-lol:

Remember it? Hell, I posted it.

    Kidding.

  5. i work at a big retailer store and the guy who runs the music department told-me today that its confirmed, and now the only doubt is if its worht the 15 years of waiting! :)

    ITS COMING!!!!!

It's how I always imagined it would be confirmed.

  6. Best Buy adds bonus stuff to dvd exclusives too.

I've got exclusive dvd cases at Best Buy (3D images etc.)

Also, they had an exclusive deal when the Friday 13th box set came out...there was an exclusive bonus disc (of extras) you couldn't get anywhere else.It was also limited edition,it's hard to find now.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Best Buy has exclusive additional material in relation to ChiDem (if indeed they really do have this deal).

Exclusives that the copies being imported in will not have.

They did the same thing with the 'Sleepaway Camp' survival kit back in 2002.

  7. One minor issue I have is that they all say Robin Finck has gone. Which is bad news.

Bad news to who? I understand that it's hard to imagine Guns N Roses carrying on without a guy that was never on an album, but ....

  8. Actually you're wrong. HITS started the whole thing, but Billboard apparently confirmed it themselves with somebody else.

True. Personally, I consider these sources more reliable than Axl.

How many times can a guy say something that doesn't pan out and still be considered "reliable".

Perhaps the FBI is standing guard.

Word, according to Billboard, is that Guns N' Roses' "Chinese Democracy" will finally see the fluorescent lights of retail outlets on Nov. 23, the Sunday before the big Thanksgiving holiday shopping weekend. Additionally, the album will be a retail exclusive to big box outlet Best Buy.

But those who want to avoid hordes of shoppers clamoring for a Wii Fit need not fear. Certainly the first-week Best Buy price will be cheaper than the major label wholesale cost. The end result, as when the Eagles partnered with a mass merchant, is that other retailers will likely just buy the album from Best Buy and stock it themselves, unless federal agents will be retained to enforce the maximum purchase limit.

The strategically-timed release will undoubtedly pump up first-week sales for the much-ballyhooed record, one that has been so overly hyped and ridiculously guarded that a blogger was actually charged with a felony for leaking many of the songs. It will be interesting to see how fans respond after the initial week of curiosity has passed, and if the story of the album will prove to be more interesting than the actual album, especially after years of on-and-off tours and promises that the record would be coming soon, really!

A recent conversation with a music industry manager had this usually insightful fellow proclaiming that "Chinese Democracy" would sell more than 1 million copies in its first week, but I can't see that happening. Guns N' Roses has hype but hasn't been consistently feeding its fanbase, a la Lil Wanye, and the band did little to show that it didn't have an antagonistic relationship with its fans after "Chinese Democracy" hit the Web this summer.

And that doesn't take into account that Guns N' Roses is essentially a classic rock band these days. Boo and hiss all you want, but the band, after all, is taking a page from Don Henley and Co. to release the album. What's next? A song exclusive "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band"? Actually, yes, as the album's "Shackler's Revenge" will debut in "Rock Band 2."

  10. Well, if Kaneda says so....

Isn't it obvious that he is looking to prompt a response from Axl or his housekeeper?

An email that I received earlier today leads me to believe that this may in fact be possible.

  11. If you really were an insider who couldn't say anything, you wouldn't have mentioned that fact in the first place...

Do you want news? Do you really think i can tell everything? Iam sorry, but i cant! Its not that i dont want to tell.....hell i want to scream it from a building...but sorry i cant.!

It's funny how many 16 year olds who live outside the US that are in the know.

  12. I would assume we will see a pre-order in the best buy ad the sunday after this one

Oh, yeah. At the absolute latest.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a half time teaser this Sunday night during the Steelers / Jaguars game. I'm just wondering what song they'll decide to use. I'm thinking possibly 'Hearts Always Get Killed'.

  13. 2. We won't get an announcement until a week (2 weeks if we're lucky) before the release.

    BF1

Really? But Axl said he wanted proper promotion. I wouldn't think that would be enough time for a release of this magnitude. Plus, you'd figure BB would want to be promoting the hell out of it as long as possible to build hype.

Hell, if they wait until a week prior, there's a good chance the album would leak prior to it being announced. Right?

    The Holy Grail

  14. I expect that if the album comes out we will see none of this. It will be like the 2006 U.S. tour. No promotion, no new radio single, no advertising blitz,

No way. We already know the man himself wants proper promotion. He made that pretty clear in his 2006 open letter.

Either way, if there's no announcement within the next few weeks, I don't expect anything to come by the year's end. I think if we get an announcement, it's reasonable to assume it will be the day before Body of Lies comes out -- on the official GN'R website, I can imagine them posting all the info on both the If the World release as well as album plans. But that's very optimistic thinking at this point.

Yeah, but with Dr. Pepper's offer, the RB2 song, and ITW being played in Body of Lies, that almost guarantees us that the album is coming out this year. Right? Plus, didn't Best Buy confirm that they are the exclusive distributor for Chinese Democracy? And remember, we received confirmation from "some guy who had a nephew in attendance" that Gould played 3 polished tracks to a group of BB employees.

I don't know about you guys, but this year's stocking stuffers are already planned out for me.

Well I have had the album on pre-order since 2002 so i better get my copy lol

Word. Are any stores currently taking pre-orders? I imagine that there probably are quite a few.

    THG

  15. So ... I figure come next week we should have a press release from Axl or Best Buy announcing the release date, cover art preview, a new single getting air play, advertisements, and quite possibly an interview from the man himself discussing the very soon-to-be-released album?

I assume this soley because this seems to be what most bands do a month or so prior to the release of a new record? And considering a release of this magnitude, I'm sure they're going to want all the promo that they can get 7 weeks prior to an album that has been 10 years in the making. Right?

    THG

  16. I cant believe people think this is all one big hoax.....Billboard.com reported that best buy is set....they are a very reliable site...

But Billboard didn't say this was a done deal.

Their exact words were .... "... Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date."

Translated - it means no deal has been signed and no release date has been set - yet.

Exactly, Maddy. It's disappointing how many of you are unable to see this. Especially considering this album's track record over the past decade.

RS is considered a reputable source by many and they gave an eroneous November 21st release date to the album back in 06'.

Nothing about that audio or the "nephew's brother" crap leads me to think that this is a sure bet.

  17. Gould also declared that the record would be a Best Buy exclusive, and even previewed three of the album's tracks — this all according to a man who claims his nephew works for Best Buy and was present for the big reveal.

Great. I definitely feel assured now. Well, here's to hoping it's true - but by no means banking on it.

Personally, I find it really disgusting that a news organization would use fan forums as the sole source for writing a story. It's people like this that give journalists a bad rep. If a journalist doesn't have an independent source - and preferably more than one - confirming this, they should not be writing a story.

I totally agree. I personally find it hilarious that the fanbase (especially) continues believing in these dime store sources. "a man who claims his nephew works for Best Buy and was present for the big reveal"

Hey guys, my best friend's sister's husband's father's grandchild's nephew's dog - barked in a way that sounded like an alternate version of Maddy. So, it leads me to believe that the dog's owner must be in possesion of unheard music that most of us don't have. :drevil:

    Classic.

  18. Do you think this is a hoax orchestrated by management? Is this 2008's version of 13 Tuesdays? Could be a thread worthy topic.

I don't think it's being orchestrated by management, but I think it's at least possible that it is a hoax, orchestrated by some attention seeking douche.

Btw, I found the answer to my question a couple posts back asking you guys how we know he was talking to BB employees.

    According to MTV,

Gould also declared that the record would be a Best Buy exclusive, and even previewed three of the album's tracks — this all according to a man who claims his nephew works for Best Buy and was present for the big reveal.

Great. I definitely feel assured now. Well, here's to hoping it's true - but by no means banking on it.
