This is first and foremost a GNR fan forum, not a place to discuss the political matters.  That said, we have two threads already devoted to Trump and American politics.  If you would like post about either of these topics, please direct yourselves to Anything Goes, where we have had a lively conversation about Trump and American politics for several years now.

Posts relating to your opinion about GNR and their use of a piñata of Trump are fine.  Arguments about Trump, immigrants, American politics will be removed from this thread.

This is the final warning on the matter.

This is so fucking dumb... the topic of this thread revolves around A POLITICAL STATEMENT, which is exactly what GNR did.  It's kind-of impossible to NOT inject any political discussion into this thread.

I suggest you move the entire thread to Anything goes.

Freddie is probably the best rock singer ever...so no way. And axls voice doesnt fit with Queen...

There is no right or wrong answer in this thread.  Every opinion in here is just that, an opinion.  There will be those who prefer Freddie to Axl.  It can be measured by how many people like one over the other... but that's about it.  And on a GNR forum, you're not going to get an accurate measure of that (will probably always lean toward GNR).

It's like comparing Red Velvet Cake to Chocolate Cheesecake.   Some people are going to like the Red Velvet better than the Chocolate, and vice-versa.   Or well done steak vs. rare steak. One simply is not better than the other, but personal preference.

That all being said... there is no such thing as 'best ever rock singer'.  Just like there isn't a such thing as 'best ever dessert' or 'best way to cook a steak'.

As for my opinion, I've never understood why people hold Freddie in such high regard.  His voice is too clean... and at the risk of being flamed... may I say feminine?  Unless it's a female rock band, I expect my rock and roll to sound mean... dirty... vicious.   I'd even go as far as dropping Queen into the category 'Pop' over 'Rock and Roll'.  And,to me, Freddie's voice is not unique in any way, shape or form.  I've heard COUNTLESS artists that can and do pull off what Freddie was able to do with his voice.  Which... to me... is nothing special and very, very average.  I in fact usually change the station whenever Queen comes on.  Freddie's voice pretty much annoy's me.  Probably because of how hyped up he's become.  It just makes me cringe, honestly.

Call me crazy, but that's just my opinion.

Now, Axl on the other hand... when he's on his game, he's completely unique.  His raspy voice coupled with his incredible range is, in my opinion, something special.  When he goes Mickey it's also cringe-worthy.  But man, when he nails it (like he is consistently on the AC/DC tour), I can't get enough of it.  It's hard to turn off any video when Axl is nailing it.

But, again, that's just my opinion.

And he clearly still has 'it'.  It's mean... it's gritty... it's vicious and dirty.  Coupled with Slash and Duff's sound, it's quintessential rock-and-roll.

I just hope GNR goes into a prolific writing stage for the next decade and releases new music every couple of years.  If they can manage to do that, they may just be able to stamp their legacy into the history books as one of the greatest RNR bands of all time... mentioned in the same breath as the Stones or Zeppelin.

Pipe dream?  Probably.  But that's my hope.

  3. If that's the case, pretty crappy move by the big three.  I mean, all these guys are very well off as it is.  And this tour is so big that even if "the loot" was split up 10 ways, they'd still be hauling in a lot more than they would on their own.  Not to mention future album sales being off the charts.

If Izzy wanted in but also wanted his fair share, he should have gotten it.

Really a bummer.  Let's see how the GNR camp reacts.

  4. http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/ex-guns-n-roses-guitarist-ron-bumblefoot-thal-recovering-from-surgery-after-cancer-recurrence/

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal has revealed that he was diagnosed with bladder cancer again three weeks ago — less than three years after his initial diagnosis.

Thal underwent surgery to remove two tumors the day after his August 11 appearance with METAL ALLEGIANCE in Brooklyn, New York and reports on his Facebook page that "all is fine." As it is very common for bladder cancer to re-occur, Thal will go for three-month re-checks for the next two years.

The guitarist also wrote that nodules were discovered on both of his lungs, but added that they were "too small to crack the chest open for." He will "re-check those in a year for changes," and figure out how to proceed from there.

Ron previously underwent surgery in January 2014 to remove a cancerous tumor. He stated a few months later about the experience: "It was really a quick thing. I mean, it doesn't compare to people that really have it and really fought it. For me, I was lucky. It didn't spread, it didn't get worse. They cut it out and that's it. But, yeah, it happens. Shit happens.”

Thal left GUNS N' ROSES in 2014, but didn't publicly address his exit until earlier this year when he told Loudwire: "All I could say is you reach a time when you just know it's time to move on and you just know that what you've seen for your life, what you see the future of your life and what that is, it's not what you pictured for yourself.”

He continued: "When I started playing music, I was six years old, and when I thought about what I wanted and what my goals were, and what makes me alive inside making music, and I just… I was looking at what I was doing, and it didn't match up. And I just needed to… I needed to go.”

Thal joined GUNS N' ROSES in early 2006 as the replacement for Buckethead.

The guitarist expressed frustration in 2013 with the lack of new music from GUNS, saying, "If something came out at this point, it would be very old material that is just being released now… We need to make an album of this band right now." The last new GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy", came out in 2008.

Isn't it? I mean I suppose they've started doing it here in the UK too, over the past few years, but still I find it really odd. What does Mercedes-Benz have to do with New Orleans?

Don't soccer teams in Europe and around the globe have advertisements on their uniforms?  Is that not awkward?  At least pro teams in the states haven't ruined their uniforms with advertising.  Yet!  Lol.  Bet that's a matter of time.

I agree, that quip about Slash was very odd. He just established that Lenny was friends with Slash, why then insult Slash? I don't even get what his point was. Maybe he had a different joke in his head and botched the delivery.

Out of curiosity, have Axl and Lenny ever really acknowledged each other, or said they were friends or anything? I was watching the Paris version of Always On The Run and Axl seems a little pissed off before Lenny comes out and then he leaves for the entire song.

I wonder if that's why there were no guest appearances this time around?

I know Lenny was at the Hammerstein show (opening night) in '06.  He was in the VIP box.  Just to be sure, I looked up an old article which confirms that.  So, with it being basically an Axl solo show at the time, Lenny being there would tell me him and Axl were buddies.  At least in 2006.

Right. It's the ticket prices that are too ambitious. The fact that they expect to sell 90% of all tickets all but proves this. Had the prices been more reasonable and easier to get (w/ not so many good seat held back) during pre and general onsale dates, they would have sold out more than 12 of the 25 shows thus far. I'm willing to bet they would have sold out ALL of them already. I personally know of numerous non-hardcore fans that would have went but balked at the price.

IMO, they can get away with higher prices during presales because that's when a vast majority of the hardcore fans are going to get their tickets. The strategy seems rather simple. Sell the best seats during presales and the during the 1st days of the general sale, then offer the remaining tickets at much more reasonable prices. Most hard core fans are willing to pay a premium for the best seat available. Those that aren't can opt for the cheaper seats. But you'd sell more on the whole because the non-hardcore fans that are on the fence will be much more likely to go at prices between $50 and $100.

That all said, even for the hardcore fans, $1700 for a VIP ticket is downright ludicrous. $350 for GA PIT is just dumb.

I remember when the GA floor tickets were the cheapest you could get.

Put me down as one of those fans.  I'm well-to-do.  A few hundred bucks for me and a guest wouldn't kill me by any means.  I can just think of better ways to spend that money.  Especially knowing that there will eventually be a smaller arena tour where, even if the seats are the same price, I won't be a half mile away from the action in nose-bleeds!  Along with the next tour, a new album would probably be in tow.

So... no brainer.  Wait until the next tour and get more bang-for-your-buck.

  8. This sounds like it was written by someone in middle school.  About the only thing the article was good at was grammatical mistakes.  A lot of them.  I mean, what does "you couldn't helping thinking about" mean?  And the dude couldn't use a comma or parenthesis right to save his life.  Hey dude... check out the following website.  You could use it:

I dont see a show happening THIS weekend in NYC, why?  They are doing stage rehearsals in Detroit, they do not have time to jump around right now seeing that the tour opener is in less than a week.

Last time I checked, there's this thing called air travel.  DET to NYC is about an hour and a half.  GNR can also afford a private jet.  They can fly in with bare bones equipment in the afternoon, play a club gig, and be back in Detroit before bedtime.  I know people who fly so much it's like taking the subway to a working class New Yorker.  It's really not that big of a deal.

That all said, it still doesn't seem very plausible.  But, then again, nothing is plausible in the world of GNR.

  10. I don't think he regrets it.

Personally, I think the RNRHOF is really a side-show.  It's kinda a joke.  It's there to lure some tourists to Cleveland more than anything else.  I don't think too many artists put too much weight into it.  And if you ever visit, it's rather drab.  I mean, the GNR "exhibit" is about the size of my closet with a crappy vinyl backdrop.  Cool pinball machine... but man, the whole thing is rather boring.  That's just my opinion.  I'm sure a lot of other people find it to be amazing though.

As if fat ass Vince Neil would look any better wearing anything else, besides I clearly said Axl should continue to lose weight, being overweight is stupid and stupidly easy to fix, no excuses....

If being overweight is stupidly easy to fix, and you have the answer to help tens of millions of people fighting obesity, if you're not a gazallionaire for sharing your infinite wisdom on how to easily lose weight, then you're stupid.  There's no excuse why you shouldn't be marketing your stupid-easy plan to lose weight on infomercials after midnight for $19.99 a pop.

I agree with everything except the being in shape bit.

He's still not there in my opinion, but obviously he's been off his feet, which hasn't helped the cause.

He was in excellent shape the last time 10 years ago i.e. 2006/7 period

Can he look like that again in the face, neck and chest area? I don't know,  but I sure hope so.

He was in pretty good shape in 2010, too.

And he's not in bad shape now, considering he's mid-50's.  If he lost about 15 pounds and hit the gym he could be back in pretty great shape.  Gotta get the boot off though!

At the end of the day though I don't really care how he looks.  I just want him to sound good.

chill bro... that;s exactly the reaction (it was awesome) I was expecting to hear... what's up with people nowadays rather seeing bad side than good in everything...smh:shrugs:

It's called political indoctrination.  The left has devalued self worth to the point where everyone questions everything, including themselves.  Hell, Obama said at a commencement speech over the weekend that people who are successful in life are there because they're "lucky".  No shit.  Has nothing to do with working hard and making wise decisions, apparently.

BBF left for God knows why

    Reunion.

BBF left because he KNEW Slash and Axl were friendly again.  He probably knew about the plans for 2016, too.  He only left and was quiet about it because he didn't want to come out and say Slash was back in the band.

    That's pretty obvious.

Even some of Slash's band members said somewhere that they knew about it all last summer.  So I'm pretty sure Tommy and Bumble stepped aside to let the reunion happen.  DJ followed suit.  In fact, most of us were putting the dots together last summer when all of this was happening.

But I do think that there will be a 'continuation' of the 'Axl material' from the CD sessions, with Slash and Duff's take on it, with some new stuff of their own mixed in.  All of that simply to expedite the process.

I think they all realize that they're not getting any younger and they have, conservatively, 10 years to pump out some new material and be relevant again and somehow salvage the reputation and legacy of GNR.  Realistically, 5 years.

So I think there's a sense of urgency to get the ball rolling on various projects and, quite literally, make up for lost time.

I think we're all in for a lot from GNR over the course of the next 5-10 years.

  15. It's most certainly a rip-off... and a waste of time.  And not just for GNR, for any band (through Ticketmaster at least).

    Couple examples...

    - GNR:  I tried the original presale for DC.  Then I looked at the non-presale rates (which were already posted... whether by mistake or not), and they were exactly the same.  So I skipped the presale.  Waited for regular tickets to go on sale and not only was I able to buy more than two tickets (I bought 6), but they wound up being CHEAPER during the regular public sale with more seating options available.

    - David Gilmour:  Tried his presale.  Wound up paying $500 for two seats.  Days before his concert two weeks ago a few of my other friends wanted to tag along.  Went on Ebay and found BETTER seats for like $100 a piece.  And there were TONS available.

Lessons I learned:  Presales are worthless for a Stadium tour.  There will be plenty of seats available when the general sale starts, and you'll probably find cheaper seats and be able to buy as many as you want.   And if you're a risk taker, wait until a couple weeks before the show and check out EBAY.   There's usually tons of seats for sale by then by people who can no longer attend the show and simply want to unload their tickets.

I liked this one! pretty cool!

Would it be 'pretty cool' if your mom or dad was one of the people that died in that accident?  It's not 'pretty cool'.  It's pretty fucking stupid, ignorant and insensitive.  Might as well be an image of the twin towers.  And if you think that was cool, too, then maybe some photos of piles of dead bodies from the holocaust.

Pretty cool?  Grow the fuck up.

He never takes off his top hat anymore during shows unfortunately. It has become very cliche. He should just sport a backwards ball cap or that stocking hat he wears a lot offstage. Someone posted a pic of him warming up the other night without any hat and he looked cool..

He was talking about his shirt... taking his shirt off.  Not his top hat.

Eeeee, come on, we haven't seen anything and in the nothing that we've seen we already saw Slash embracing Axl, so, well... Plus people said they hugged after PC and not that Axl tried to and Slash ran away. Also in those seconds of footage we have we can see Slash leaning on Axl and trying to lean even more but he was a little late as Axl was already walking away in that particular situation. I don't think Slash has any problems here. Or anyone. I think this show proved they really are on great terms now.

I just hope we are given the chance to see more of this. It should be made available. Come on, it is not just one of them concerts, it was a one of a kind thing, a really special celebration and I don't think all of this was prepared for just 200 people. :shrugs:

Your suspicions are correct... it wasn't just prepared for 200 people.  BUT, there are a lot of fans who were led to believe that Coachella and then Vegas were going to be the first shows.  So I'm sure they tried to keep this warm-up as secretive and private as possible out of respect for those fans.  All-the-while knowing that some bits and pieces of the show would leak out to the public (us), knowing they'd need some kick-ass hints as to how bad-ass they were going to sound to help SELL TICKETS TO THEIR STADIUM TOUR!

It's actually brilliant marketing, and certainly planned.  None of this was an accident or coincidental.

After the tour I'm sure they'll release the Troubadour show for sale, which will eventually make it's way to Youtube just like any other GNR show from yesteryear.

    PATIENCE!
