  1. I'm sure there were concerts back when the classic lineup played that Axl had off-nights and didn't hit every note. I saw him in Calgary in 2010 and was pretty impressed by his vocals, but I don't really expect every live song to sound exactly the way he sang it back at the "Ritz in 88" or for "live in Tokyo" so maybe I'm just too forgiving. :) For me, half the excitement of going to concerts is hearing different variations of the songs, otherwise I may as well just sit at home and watch the same old concerts on DVD. I just hope the reunion happens and they do some shows in Canada or I might have to renew my passport and make a trip down to the US to catch them live. Seriousy, Axl could sound like shit and I'd still be pretty stoked to see them on the same stage.

If you want perfection go listen to opera or maybe some of that new synthesized auto-tune shit that all sounds the fucking same and is lip-synched in concert... leave rock and roll the fuck alone!

  2. maybe they (managament?) leaked the song deliberately, to make some fuss along the fans

    you never know

Agreed, I think it's a bit odd that something that was recorded 7-9? years ago suddenly gets leaked a couple months after their last concert dates. Something's up and this is just the thing to flare up interest again. It sucked me back here to the forums after a couple years away. :)

  3. Kind of off topic, but I think I understand where Axl is coming from on this issue. When other "Halls of Fame" nominate members they normally nominate individual members for their career accomplishments not entire teams for team accomplishments. Tracii Guns was one of the original members and may have contributed to some material, is he being honored with the other members of "old GNR"? They should select individual artists based on their contributions to Rock and Roll when they make nominations to the RRHOF. If they want to nominate Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steve for record sales of AFD then nominate them individually rather than nominating Guns N' Roses as a single entity. Band members are like players on sports teams, some make huge contributions to the team's success and others "ride the pine." Sometimes there's people behind the scenes (ie. songwriters) who get overlooked for their contributions. I believe nominating a band (ie. old GNR) to the RRHOF would be like nominating the Oilers to the HHOF for winning the 1985 Stanley Cup or the Cardinals to the BBHOF for winning the 2011 World Series.

When you nominate a band who had several platinum records who should get credit? The guys who wrote the songs, the guys who performed the songs on the records, the guys that performed the songs on tour to promote the records, the guys that were in the band when it formed, in the band when the first single went to #1, or the guys that are in the band now? Like it or not they are all members of Guns N' Roses and if you want to induct the band as a single entity they should all be inducted.

  4. I think the lawsuits from former members kept him from speaking his mind publically before. Now he can address us directly via the forums and twitter and bypass the media which has a history of twisting his words and taking things out of context. Axl has consistently slammed the media for spreading lies and causing controversy. If he couldn't legally comment on stuff because of pending lawsuits and he couldn't rely on the media to represent him fairly, then his only option was silence. I think maybe we mistook this silence for some kind of Howard Hughes type complex but it was actually just his way of dealing with the legal issues as well as his mistrust of the media which forced him to remain in apparent seclusion.

Regardless of the why or how, I'm just happy for the killer album and some amazing performances! :) I hope to see him in Canada again ASAP!

  5. Why is this news? I was at the Calgary show in jeans and a t-shirt and it was fucking cold and I still sweated my balls off. I sure wasn't running all over the stage giving an amazing performance like Axl but by the end of the concert I was soaked with sweat.

  6. i haven't seen it, but on many occasions i've supplied stock footage to bands to play during their shows, it could just be that.

Maybe, but I remember thinking that it looked pretty professional, like a music video. I'm not trying to say that the stock footage you're talking about isn't professional, it just looked like it was telling a specific story about the song like music videos do sometimes. It seemed suitable at the time, but I wish I'd paid more attention to the video and which song they were playing. Too much to take in at once I guess... Amazing show!!! I hope they go to Seattle so I can try to get down and catch it again. :)

  7. Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but during several songs at the Calgary show there appeared to be a video playing on the large monitor at the back of the stage with some woman crying and doing other stuff. I didn't pay that much attention as I was too busy watching Axl and the rest of the band but if they've gone to the trouble of preparing something for the monitor to display on certain songs then why not release that as a video with some concert footage thrown in or something? Just curious. It would seem relatively simple to just slap something together from what they're already using.

I was thinking the same thing as well. It was very good footage too. Something about a Chick having troubles with her Drunk Mom so she runs away and becomes a hooker. I think it was played in parts: One during SOD (for sure) and (I think Sorry) 'Sorry'...

Maybe it's a possible video for Prostitute?

  9. Thanks for posting DJ! You guys were amazing in Calgary... It's great to see you guys clicking so well and awesome to see Axl smiling again. You're a perfect fit, talent as well as stage presence. I hope you stick around for a couple more tours and we get to hear some new stuff from all of you when you get a chance to hit the studio.

  10. No surprise, I've heard of shows being sold out and then suddenly another block of tickets goes up for sale. I'm not sure if it's the band, management or venue staff but they'll suddenly decide that a section they hadn't planned on opening should now be opened up because of the demand. Funny how that works with supply and demand... kind of BS though when they can control the supply of tickets to keep the price high and then if they sell out they open up a couple more blocks of seats. Price fixing anyone?

Don't get me wrong, I think GN'R is worth every penny I spent on my Calgary trip, not to mention the 10 hours I spent driving to get there. :)

  11. I don't think you should compare live performances to studio recordings. In the studio you can do multiple sessions and recordings until you get the best performance possible and then you can manipulate it and overdub it until it sounds perfectly silky smooth. Then you can take the best portions of different sessions and dub them together eliminating imperfections and other stuff which you simply can't do in a live performance. Some people like that perfect track while others prefer the more raw sound of a live performance, that's just personal preference. Most singers, except the Ashley Simpson types, won't sound the same live as they do on a studio recording (I admit there are some exceptions) but in the 2010 Calgary show Axl sounded spot on for 90% of his songs. I think he actually sounded better on the old stuff than on the new material. The power and range of his voice was amazing and I don't recall any wheezing. Anyone else at the Calgary show recall him wheezing? I can't comment on the 2002 or 2006 performances as I've only seen the internet clips. If he'd showed up in Vancouver in 2002 I guess maybe I'd be able to compare the performances. :)

He sounded good on the 2002 tour, and again in 2006.

He does not sound as good in 09/10 as he did on the 06 tour

Wow. My world differs completely from yours.

Exactly. I never understand when people said Axl sounded good in 2002. I liked him in 06, but he didn't have the power of the 80's/90's. In 09/10 he sounds as good as he ever has, and keeps on improving with each show.

I saw him live in boston 2002 and he sounded great. People can say the same thing now, I dont know how you can say he sounds good now.

In 2009/10 his power is gone esp in his mid range voice. The only reason people dont like his 2002 voice is because he did not use the rasp.

Axl also now can barely get through a song now with out weezing. He seems to be getting beter as the tours go along but how can anyone be shocked at the people that think in 2002 he sounded better?

Axl always sounds better when he uses his clean voice like he always did on the albms

  12. I loved the crack he made about the coke straw not being big enough as well!

the concert was definitely better than the last time they came to calgary. I was front row at both concerts and you could definitely see that the band had better chemistry, they were joking around and having fun. Axl was in an awsome mood and even when some one threw a glow stick at him he laughed it off. and my 14 year old sister caught a drum stick :P

  13. Yeah, kind of like comparing the winter in Baton Rouge and Memphis to the winter in Edmonton and Winnipeg!

I think sales have gone extremely well considering the band hasn't promoted the album and tour AND it's the dead of Winter in Canada. Many people don't attend shows in the middle of the Winter.

Why schedule shows if thats the case, in the dead of winter. And they did just fine in 91 and 92 during that time of year touring places like minnesapolis, dayton, baton rouge, Memphis.

though comparing this band to that one is like comparing an apple to an orange

  14. I wasn't that impressed by this song until hearing it live in Calgary. When he performed it live you could hear the power and emotion in his voice... fucking amazing!

  15. Sound on the floor was excellent, I was about 4 or 5 rows back on the floor on the left side. I don't think the sound in Edmonton will be any better in the stands as I was at Megadeth/Slayer last year and the sound sucked from up in the stands. Maybe it's just the nature of these types of venues as hockey arenas probably weren't designed with acoustics in mind.

Axl's voice was amazing! He looks like he's already slimmed down a bit from how he looked in the Korea video clips... not surprising when you see him tearing all over the stage ripping shit up! Awesome show!

  16. I had a blast outside GM place back on Nov. 7 2002! Best birthday ever... even if Axl was a no-show. Driving 12 hours or so to get to Vancouver and then spending my evening watching a riot start, running from riot police, etc... tends to stick in the memory as well!

I guess maybe that's why I'm looking forward to Calgary so much, because I didn't get to see them in 2002.

  17. 1 More week until Calgary, I can hardly wait! I've been checking out some of the Korea stuff on youtube and they are going to kick some serious ass!!!

    im going to calgary too.

where are your seats? or are you on the floor?

On the floor, how about you?
