  1. after 1year+ of CD being released and having listened to it more than 4 or 5 times each month I can now say that "This I Love" is probably the masterpiece of this god damn good album and that the wait has been worth it after all... I love the new lineup but you always imagine how Slash would have nailed the solo for this one... ;)

Haha. Slash doing the solo for this I love? It would sound like another Use Your Illusion song. Same bluesy style. Slash is a good guitar player but that song is a bit too modern and I don't think his style would fit the boot.

  2. Just wanted to get peoples' thoughts on this matter.

I know we've had Chinese for just over a year now (which I love) and I'm stoked that the band is touring, belting out the new and old tracks amazingly.

But I got to thinking today that for Axl especially to start putting the past era of Guns to bed, the band should seriously look at releasing more material. Most people seem to agree that there is at least enough music recorded for at least one more studio album.

I don't want to be labelled as another greedy fan who just wants more music, but how many here would agree that more studio music would help the world to see how this current line-up of Guns fuckin rocks and more importantly, how it deserves to be recognised in its own right without constantly being compared to the old line-up?

As much as people would like not hear this, nothing with this GNR will ever compare to the original incarnation. A lot of it is Axl's fault, but some of it is also the fact that you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.

I think that you could. There is not going to be another CD like appetite. However I think that (my personal opinion...don't bash) Chinese Democracy is a better CD. In my own mind that put the old line up to bed because it took a much more modern approach. I have nothing against appetite or the old GNR and I love Use Your Illusions, but I do believe that I like the new line up better. I think it is mainly the diversity in music and sound that gets me. Show me another album that is as diverse as chinese democracy that can go from metal to reggae to ballad to industrial to something that sounds similar to david bowie and than back to metal again. Simply put they are a great band New or Old but for me the old line up was dead as soon as Axl said it was dead and wrote a new CD with new people.

NO Appetite was something special that cant be forgotten or replaced a time a perfect time mid 80's usa was a special place then cocaine rampart, military kicking ass we loved ourselves and then guns came along perfect timining perfect sound like losing your virginity or taking that first hit when freebasing cant be duplicated

peace out hope that made sense

Umm ... so basically you loved 'AFD' because in the 80s you were in the Army - banging some chick - while you were high on crack?

Well, judging by the coherency of your post I'm glad to see that it didn't affect you too bad. But yeah, AFD is great. I got that part.

    +1

  3. Yes it's almost that time boys! According to Axl's twitter, this will be the first FULL stage setup! Let's see GNR rock the land of the rising sun!!

I'd love to hear Scraped and Prostitute!

Osaka is 14 hours ahead of Eastern USA... so if they go on at 10PM... it will be 8AM Wednesday morning in the states!

We doing this for every concert? lol I'm down. Just a lot! of threads hahaha.

  4. I'm not sure where in the setlist they'd put them but I'd love to see scraped, nightrain, civil war, catcher in the rye, prostitute and anything goes (deep track but i think it would be perfect for dj and axl's current voice). Since they'll have to drop some I'd say TWAT (great song but doesn't work live), It's So Easy, Street of Dreams (I'm gonna get flamed for this), My Generation, If the World, and Live and Let Die.

I would like to say though that friday's setlist was brilliant and had a great flow and maybe it's better off if they only change one or two songs a night and then just experiment in the solo slots.

There is this small theory I have heard. They don't play civil war or any other USI tracks because they don't have the rights. It would make sense because all of the songs they play were in movies. Im not sure if November Rain was but just a thought :) would explain why they don't play those though.

Even without the rights tey could perform anything they wanted to live.

Yeah I was just sayin what I heard.

  6. Let me just add that I don't really care that he's had a procedure done in fact good for him, part of a rockstar's persona, especially his, is having rock star hair. I'm just glad they're back on tour (come to the US please) and that he lost the braids. Axl + whoever in the band is better than nothing at all, but not as good as old school GNR.

They aren't as good but you sill still buy ticket.

  7. GNR are better than ever!!!!

DJ Ashba is way better than Slash!!!!

Take a long deep breath. Ok. That's good. Now revise your above statement. Even DJ wouldn't go that far. The boy can play but a guitar god he ain't...yet.

I think that you should take a longer deep breath. Do you play guitar? I would consider slash a very good guitar player but I have seen so many videos of the guy and he is amazing. He also has the issue of everything he plays is off your standard A blues scale (take SweetChild). He is good. He has Style. Now look at DJ. The web isn't necessarily littered with his videos of solos and such. I do think that he could, if we see more of him, be way better than slash. I don't think that you should judge Slash as being the best guitar player in the world and judging him as a guitar god strictly on opinion. Granted you did not say "best in the world" but you know you think he is. Look he is good but is limited. Axl needed breathing room and got other guitarists to complement his new style. I definitely think that DJ and Slash could be equally leveled or one could be better but as far as I am concerned don't call Slash amazing simply because he is on the cover of guitar hero and can shred.

Nice soundcheck yesterday - off to the stadium, feelin' great. Lookin' forward to a fun show tonight. :)

You keep posting this, but I never know what time GNR is actually supposed to hit the stage.

i went to the oracle show as well, they went on stage at 12:30am

I don't know for sure but don't expect any earlier than 10:00. I went to the show at the oracle arena in Oakland a couple years ago and they went on at about 1:30 A. M.

It was 12:30??? All I know was I was like 14 and falling asleep hahaha. Awesome show though.

  11. I don't think GNR are trying to promote anything... the album's been out over a year - it's pretty much sold as much as it can do - and there are no videos or new singles to push.

I'm not so sure. They could very well bring more attention to the album through a string of great concerts, during the same time they could drop the Better video, this might stoke interest for Radio stations to start playing CD a bit more and all of this could lead to a new interest and additional sales. They definitely lost the edge of the original big splash promotion but they could pull off a second wave style promotion working from around the world and finally back to dates in America. This could give an increase in sales and then....Drop a new Live CD!

That would be much easier than putting together a new album, it could drop for next Christmas after heavy promotion with the tour. This would showcase the new material and classics as played live with the new band.

    ...one can hope.

The only downside to a live cd is that they would have to wait for Axl's voice to be in top shape and pick the best of the best. Also the last live CD was released by the record company to keep people interested in gnr while Axl spent time on the new album and it did not sell well. I love it personally especially rocket queen, but I think that the majority of the public cares more about slash and not about the voice. His voice is a love or hate thing.
