I'll take up the " I'm no guitarist so this might be a stupid question " :D

So, if a string breaks, can guitarists compensate it for the rest of the song? In other woords, do they have variants for each note to play (at least more or less) with five stings?

In theory yes, because most of the notes exist several times on the fretboard. The problem is that the strings geht constantly higher from the deepest “low“ E to the “high“ E, which are the first and last strings on a guitar and an octave apart - the other strings are “in between“. Meaning that if you break the highest string on a high note at the end of the fretboard, you can easily run out of a direct equivalent on another string. You would have to find another accesible note that fits melodically.

Also, the way the notes are spread out over the fretboard usually supplements a vertical movement of the fingers instead of a horizontal one for most of the simple melodies. If you look ar your hand, it is way easier to bend your fingers from a fist to pointing (comparable to moving vertically over various strings) thand spreading them apart over an increasing distance (playing the some notes on only one string, because the one above/below breaks).

All in all, if you are a professional guitarist, you can definatly work around a broken string without the people really noticing, it just takes some mental and physical hoops to jump through.

  2. Well i think it could work out, but there are really a lot of uncertainities that really make me nervous.

    1. I agree that this whole AC/DC-thing kind of steals the limelight of the GnR reunion/regrouping. If the whole thing has been discussed with Duff and Slash, that should not be a problem - but i somehow doubt that this is the way the communication within the band works nowadays. But this is only speculation of cours. The thing is, if the other guys feel somehow betrayed by Axl, it could definatly effect the GnR tour.

    2. I share the fear that Axl could kind of ruin his voice while touring with AC/DC, as the songs are (at least the way i perceive it) technically easier than GnR-Material, but they requiere a very "forced" rasp to sound as expected and the way Axl tends to go easy on his voice whenever possible doesnt really work for AC/DC-Songs. This point is of course debatable, but i think Axl would rather go all-out on th DC-Songs  than disappointing the fans and/or Angus.

    3. Somehow, i dont think that anybody can really win in this situation. At the very best, Axl is perceived as an adequate replacement for the time being and his Perception by the media will be restored a bit - but the same effect would happen if the GnR-Tour would start earlier and they bring the goods. If it does not work out, AC/DC will tarnish their (until now) basically flawless legacy and Axl will probably be blamed for everthing that went wrong. There are many great and less divisive rock-vocalists that could fill the gap without giving off the impression of straight up replacing brian with someone who is, by the general audience, percieved as having a somewhat similar style of singing (as in: high-pitched-scream). Someone suggested them choosing Lzzy Hale and going the "no man can replace brian, so we chose someone completly different"-approach. I feel something like this could have worked out better and be more respectful towards Brian.

  3. I was at that gig in bamberg and Anastasia was really incredible that night :)

Slash more or less destroyed Mötley Crüe that night, who played after him but were more or less ignored by the crowd *g*

I don't think that Mötley Crüe know that Slash is a lot more popular in Europe than they are.

    Well now they know ;)

  5. I´m going to the Bamberg show, July 20th. He´ll play with Mötley Crüe. The whole thing is adveertised as a dual show so i hope Slash won´t be the "opener" with just an hour-long set ot sth like that.

especially since the Crüe ain´t that popular here in Germany and Slash might be the bigger draw after all.

  6. fucking hell?! Slash? When was THAT photo taken?!

August, 2010. I think in Singapore or at least somewhere on the Asian Leg of the Tour

  7. really a great Song :) and the Solo rocks ;)

I just start missing Slashs old "fat and bluesy" sound.....recently, his tone became more and more thin, just as his playing became better.

I think he wants to go back to the straight and stripped sleaze-rock sound of the appetite era, but i miss the muddy, warm and overall bluesy sound he had during the illusion tour and especially the snakepit days.

  8. Hey guys,

We started playing a year ago and since then have written about 30 songs, ranging from quite simple hard Rock to rather keyboard-heavy ballads.
