  1. maybe we could take advantage of best buy's new lower price for chinese democracy, and drive the album up the charts. how many records does the number one album sell? could we buy enough of the discounted cd discs to get it on the charts? that would be a pretty amazing feat, and would show how dedicated guns n' roses fans are. does anyone know how many we'd need to buy? then we could calculate how many volunteers we'd need, and how many discs they'd have to buy per person. i think this could be a really inspiring thing for the fans to do for a record that's been ignored by the mainstream media. has anything like that ever happened in music history?

I think your ambitions are noble and genuine, but I have to ask why it's so important to you personally to have Chinese Democracy on the charts? I know we all admire and wish the best for our favourite band, but this attempt to make GNR relevant to today's mainstream isn't our responsibility. Likewise, what exactly would be accomplished if a grass roots movement were able to get CD to chart again? Say we were able to get it to the 21st spot, would anyone notice? Probably not. Other than the artists, label execs, industry people, and hardcore fans, no one really cares how well an album sells. All they care about is whether they like the songs or not. But the public already passed on this album. Whether it got it's fair shake or not is another discussion, but everyone on this forum buying 1000 copies to get it to number one isn't going to change the opinions of the public.

Moreover, Axl's a multi-millionaire, the other guys in GNR are likely doing pretty well. Why would I, someone who makes less money in a year than Axl makes in one concert, spend a good portion of my funds to support something that wasn't really supported by the band itself. Don't get me wrong, the tours were great, I went to three shows, had a great time, but they were a little too late in terms of actual support for the album. I have no idea what went on, what didn't go right, and why Axl and the band decided to no-show when the album came out, but the time to juice the sales of this album that came out over two years ago was at the time of release, not now when it won't be another six to seven months until we're likely to see the band again.

Anyway, I feel like I've thought and expressed way too much for such a subject.

Nothing wrong with wanting to support a band you love, but ask yourself why having CD chart again is so important to you? If Axl really wanted CD to chart again, he could do so much easier than any of us could. But he chooses not to, so why should we?

    Cheers,

    Andrew

I think you're the only one with a lick of sense on this damn forum.

  2. I'm kinda disappointed in this. Sure, I do wanna hear the rest of the Chinese Democracy sessions but...

You've got Ron, DJ, Frank, Tommy, Dizzy, Chris, Fortus, and Axl.

Ron and DJ are excellent, excellent guitarists. Frank is a master of drumming. And you haven't sat down and recorded with them yet? That's a HUGE waste of both Axl's and their talents...

I'm really disappointed but right now I would prefer it if Axl released the Chinese Democracy sessions first...then focused on "what's next" after...if it's even a consideration...

Agreed. What i can't figure out though is why can't the rest of the band write music and have it ready to go for Axl when the CD session stuff gets released?

Exactly. Axl isn't their mother. Absolutely nothing is stopping them from getting in a room to write music. I don't understand why they don't just do it. They don't need axl's blessing to do that.

  3. In another thread I suggested the Stones have three guitarists, but I have to be honest:

In the case of GN'R, I think having three guitarists and two keyboardists really clutters the sound live. It never allows for just one lead guitarist to really shine live, and in the studio well it's 5 guitar players which makes the sound in the studio totally cluttered.

Does anyone think GN'R having three guitarists and two keyboard players is a little much? Considering that Axl also knows how to play piano. I've never gotten why Dizzy is still needed in the band when you have Chris.

My ideal band set up = a vocalist, two guitars, a bass, a drum, and a piano player. A six piece band is perfect. You can have sidemen like a sax player or backing vocal girls as guests on records and live, and maybe a second keyboard player live...But Idk..it just makes the sound in GN'R a little more cluttered.

lol, you just now realized this??

  4. I guess that's your opinion. IMO, his voice is brutally awful...his song writing is almost as bad too.

Didn't he cowrite there was a time

Don't have the liner notes in front of me, so idk. If he did, it was prob the piano part, which along with the hip-hop drum beat, is awful and doesn't belong in what otherwise is a very good song.
