  1. This is from MTV news today-- sorry if already posted

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1595862/2.../rose_axl.jhtml

"In what some believe is a strong sign we could be closer than ever before to hearing Chinese Democracy, one song from the oft-delayed record, "If the World," was chosen to accompany the closing credits of Leonardo DiCaprio's forthcoming film, "Body of Lies," which hits theaters nationwide October 10. A mastered version of the same song — which is a speedy, riff-heavy tune, reminiscent of "Night Train" and "Dead Horse" — leaked online earlier this year."

That description sounds nothing at all like the song called "If The World" that we've heard.

  2. It's very common for release dates to be set and widely announced, only to be pushed back a week or two, sometimes a month. Less frequently, the dates can be moved up to an earlier time, i.e. if the album is leaked in full and the company wants to make sure they don't 'lose any sales' to a bunch of people who never intended on buying the record to begin with.

At this point I'm inclined to believe that March 6 means "on or around" March 6, maybe a week or two after, maybe even before. Time will tell. Axl himself hasn't ever stated a specific release date for the album in an official platform before, so I take his announcement to mean that he's certain this time. He waited to speak until he was ready.

Because he has opened his mouth this time, if we have to wait another year or two then he'll lose even more credibility than he has during all 10 years that we've been waiting for this record.

  3. I don't post here often, but I scan through almost daily. Thought I'd weigh in on '06 vs. '02:

I too saw them on both tours ('02 at the Fleet Center in Boston, and '06 at the Warfield in San Francisco). I liked what I heard both years, but to me the main difference has less to do with what any individual member was playing and more to do with how the band members have been interacting with each other. Granted, Buckethead's schtick was a bit of a distraction, and his playing was 'avant garde' compared to other GNR guitarists, but I think he did the best he could to make his style fit with what the band was playing. I got the distinct impression in '06, which I didn't get so strongly in '02, that the guys in the band now are really comfortable with each other and genuinely enjoy playing together. It showed in the way they would sometimes lean against each other, or smile, or just the in-between-song noodling that was going on. The noodling itself was tight! Maybe that comfort level is coming through as a 'bluesier' rock sound because, since these guys know each other better now than they did in '02, this is allowing the band to sound more like Guns N' Roses (which has always been a heavy, bluesy kind of rock). I was just knocked out at how together the band is now, much moreso than Axl's vocals. I think I was hearing Axl much better at the '02 show in Boston. But the band... I'm totally sold on 'em.
