  1. Now that Tool is about to release a new record end of this month I was wondering if that would have any impact on GNR. Most here probably like or at least respect Tool and probably have heard the new track. If the new record turns out to be as great as Tool fans hope would Axl and company feel any pressure or any extra incentive to deliver new music sooner rather than later? Axl was seen at a Tool concert in the 90’s probably has liked or has had respect for the band. Would he and the band feel any more or less obligation to make a record that would be in the same conversation as a Tool record?

I’ve heard writers, critics at the time say Aerosmith and Motley Crue felt they had to step up their game with Pump and Dr Feelgood because GNR was killing it at the time with Appetite.

If GNR releases something soon it could be great time for music especially for me with my 2 favorite bands releasing new music I know I’ve been starving for. I’ll get ripped for this post and why it’s here in the first place but I love both bands

    Any thoughts on this?

  2. This may have already been discussed if so my bad... seems like it would be easy to have Slash and Duff add to that song if that wasn’t done already. Fly Steven in for dinner and work on that song thank him, then he can be on his merry way ;) Easier said than done! Only those close to that know how likely or not getting the original 5 together to do anything is. Everyone wants that but a lot of moving parts would have to fit!

I think in 2018 we’ll have at least one new GNR song with Slash and Duff just based on how the tour looked from the outside and a lot time between now and when they resume, just my thoughts..... anyone care to add?

  3. I wish we had the full background of this song including demos, drafts, cuts. Didn't Matt Sorum say November Rain and Estranged was at one time one huge song? I've heard that NR was in one form or another anywhere from 12 to 15 to over 20 minutes in length. Estranged I believe Axl originated in Chicago '89 or maybe before. Axl I think said he, Izzy, and Slash each brought an album worth of material to that session. Is it possible Axl brought one huge song possibly parts of Estranged as an extension to NR? Was Breakdown ever a part of that huge song? If anyone has anything to add to this please do. It would be cool to hear any demos of these including the beginnings of songs all the way up to Slash adding the guitar pieces. I'm sure there's demos on those too. And Matt saying one huge song, he joined in 1990 after the Chicago session making all of this even more unclear. Of course some may think big deal be happy with the final versions however they came about. That's not good enough for me. I love the songs so much I want to know everything that went into creating them! If anyone has anything to add please do.....

  4. When are we going to hear Axl and Slash do a cover of Bowie classic with an extended guitar solo smack dab in the middle?!  Live or studio, preferably studio. Although it would be cool to hear Ziggy with the original 5, studio. Never got to hear Scott Weiland and Axl together cover under pressure queen maybe Slash could of thrown a solo in there and sent the original to another level, stratosphere, dimension etc (drunk and rambling when I posted this..... would be cool to see Gnr cover Ziggy Stardust though, thinking studio rasp necessary)

  5. I've wondered about the Estranged demos too. That would be ridiculous to hear any parts, rough sketches, pieces or anything Axl may have been brainstorming when putting this amazing piece of music together. Same for Slash's guitar parts my favorites like the one following "1,2" and the solo after "anymore and what for" I want to hear them.... all of them!

Some of these parts could have came natural, first time they heard or thought of something so there may not really be much even in the vaults which I'd love to get my hands on like any other die hard gnr fan!

Of course we all want to hear that 27 minute version of November Rain. I made a post in 2011 wondering where the hell that is.... NR, Estranged, Breakdown all one.

there you go..a lot of people are so dismissive and don't realise the truth behind many things because we're programmed through the media - i always wonder where or what the fuck was axl up to from 96-2001? Completely disappeared face of planet

Maybe he was crushed from Slash and duff leaving the band and said f this

didn't know where to take the band still had the name now what....

    Interesting discussion though

  7. Didn't Slash say that Izzy bailed during the illusions tour? I think him and Duff were pretty pissed off at the time. Once Izzy was sober Guns was over...

Major turning point of the band was when Izzy became sober and Axl seized control of the band and it all happened about the same time.... coincidence? Still scratching my head how a band that creates amazing music can let it all just......

  8. Not sure if anyone said this but maybe they debuted Sorry in Philly as a way Axl actually apologizing for 2003 no show?  However if you go by the lyrics it's a different kind of sorry... sorry for you etc

Anyway I was at the concert it was awesome! They are my favorite band and it was absolutely amazing my favorite were Layla to November rain and then Estranged if anyone really cares.

Hopefully they come back again I'll see them in the pit next time!

Here's a nice recap of the feud with Nirvana (and hence Dave): http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/guns-n-roses-vs-nirvana-a-beef-history-20160411?page=2

thanks for the link! I was wondering what went on behind the scenes, other than what was mentioned in that article, as far as Slash and Axl patching things up with Dave. But that article does give a nice breakdown / time line of the feud!

  10. I seem to remember there being some animosity between guns and Foos over the years unless I was imagining things. It started with Nirvava. However I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that Slash and Dave became friends. Think their kids went to school together or something. Dave played drums one of Slash's albums. Slash actually wanted Dave to sing but he would only do drums. And Slash made nice comments when the Foos released that last album Sonic Highways.

However at some point Axl and Dave must have patched things up as well. Dave offered him the throne unless Slash reached out to Dave.  Also during that China exchange didn't Axl say something to the effect that he always wanted to work with Dave? You go back and listen to it when they asked about the chair in the very beginning I thought he said he always wanted to work with Dave.  And then he said something about Dave actually attending one of the shows. Maybe I heard wrong idk. If I heard wrong my bad for even bringing this up.

With this in mind two questions come up:

    1) Was there ever really a feud?

    2)  Would foos and guns ever collaborate? Didn't Axl say he wanted to work with foos/Dave? Yes the bands are very different however it would be interesting to hear  both vocals on the same song mixed in with Dave's drums, Slash's guitar even Dave's rhythm guitar. At first glance I'm thinking no way the bands sound too different. However I recently saw on YouTube that free falling gig at the video music awards with Axl and Tom Petty back in 89 and started thinking hmmmm.

You guys probably think I'm ridiculous because I had a previous post in here about guns and acdc collaborating. i'm sure other people out there think of how certain bands would sound together and most of it is just fantasy. Anyway I was hoping to hear your opinions and thoughts of a previous feud if there was one and now a hopeful but not likely collaboration with these two bands. Mods my apologies if I should have divided this into two different posts since it's too different topics; a feud vs a collaboration

Lastly would they tour together? Another dream I guess.

Anyone have anything they want to add to this? Most of you will say a collaboration will never happen and it probably won't but it would be interesting...

Not to mention GN'R post-AFD is basically the antithesis of AC/DC. Sure, Angus could fit in on Nightrain or Out Ta Get Me, but November Rain or Estranged? No way.

He could do the same thing slash does and stand around and wait and play a cord or two before the build up

angus is older anyway he can sit down and take a break lol

Just chiming in fellas giving my two cents :)

  12.  Not sure if anyone talked about this yet but could you imagine if they merged  slash and Angus could battle for leade and rhythm. Angus rhythm material is exactly what all the gnr fans have been screaming for forever I think will be awesome. what does Angus have to lose his singers done the rest of the of AC/DC is a new anyway both bands might need to kickstart why not

If axl sounds like he did in that first show with everybody together like this I think it would be amazing

    IMO lol

  13. 18 minutes?

I have heard some of the versions like the accoustic guitar, piano with Axl, and the "again and again" one. Does anyone know about this 18 minute version? (other than whats in wiki)

And I was always curious about the recording history of Estranged and Breakdown. I heard the instrumental version of Estranged, but was wondering if it was ever broken down into multiple songs. Any opinions or commentary is appreciate, thanks!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_Rain

Slash states in his autobiography that an 18-minute version of "November Rain" was recorded at a session with guitarist Manny Charlton (of rock band Nazareth) in 1986, before the recording sessions for Appetite for Destruction began.[7]
