Axl has always been acting like a jerk and or "diva" as you call it. the diff. is the 90s Diva was still a productive Diva.

The current Diva is a broken Diva who can't even sing + being on anti-depressants all the time.

Some might consider my comments rude but believe me Axl deserves all the shit-storm of criticism and bully he receives from hardcore fans 'cause he never gave shit. He just kept blaming heaven and earth and every fucking individual for his failures.

You want to see an ego out of control ?

Look no further than " MY WORLD" on USE YOUR ILLUSION 2

At that stage they were the best and most popular rock band on the earth.

IZZY saw the " AYATOLLAH " as he called AXL and then bailed and then incredibly was denied re-entry to a band he helped create.

    GREED GREED GREED

  2. Axl is the greatest "diva"  that ever existed and he makes Mariah Carey look like a monk.

There isn't any band in history specifically the lead singer who treats their fans with such ignorance and contempt.

    Absolutely disgraceful.

They could have been up with the Stones but for the egomaniac wrecking ball redheaded recluse.

This tour will be the last as we just ask he release something new in the way of material.

Put a fork in the NITL tour they are done.

    One album in 29 years.

My daughter just turned 10 and Chinese Democracy was released long before she was conceived.

The thing is Axl is now filthy rich so he doesn't need an album to generate revenue.

I have never seen any band in my existence treat their fans so poorly and with utter contempt and disdain.

I didn't go to see them live in Melbourne when they reformed with Slash & Duff for 2 specific reasons:

    1. I wanted to remember them when they were in their prime.

    2. Still waiting on new material.

I'm so glad I resisted and took a stand because this benevolent dictator lead vocalist is just an absolute prick.

Planet Earth is an underrated little album. Check out the title track (Planet Earth) and The One U Wanna C - both awesome tracks.

    Couldn't agree more

Planet Earth is a top track

I recommend this book too if you like reading about the creative process and Princes life which has been shrouded in mystery

When you read stories of him ringing his record company saying he's got a triple album ready to be released even though he only had a new album released a few months ago you see his work rate is phenomenal and it just flows from him

Really terrific book and I have read plenty

Great to be discussing real musicals artists  in an era not favourable to the previous ones

    Sorry this is the book

Yeah, he was a multi instrumentalist. A great player. A great producer. A great singer.

But I think the more important thing is what you do with all of that ability. It's about the tunes at the end of the day isn't it? so as a songwriter, he had many peers. As a guitar player... many, many peers. He still wrote great tunes, and so many of them.

But Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Dylan, Lennon, and others were just as good as songwriters and lyricists and they all used their respective musical instruments to write and compose brilliant tunes.

But yeah, Prince played many instruments. That is impressive plus he could dance too. (not being sarcastic)

Rovim just download his catalogue and listen to it and I'm not saying you will love it as there many of his tunes that I don't even like

But as a music fan I recommend you give it a go as it is very impressive

  10. You can only go by the body of work which Is quality and massive quantity by Prince and tragically we never got to see the 27 year old left handed wizard as he was gone way too soon

Prince still has 1000 tracks which could be court bound with family and record companies warring over their release

As a guitarist Jimi is undoubtedly the best but as a musician Prince has no peer

Like I said, I think he was a genius. But your statement is still incorrect in my opinion. And I don't think I took you too literally either cause you gave specific names. Like Hendrix which you could say was way more inventive and original when it came to guitar playing, he came up with a language of his own based on the blues while Prince was an excellent guitar player, but wasn't nearly as adventurous as Jimi was.

"All artists" is too bold to be accurate as well.

I've asked Russ to give me examples, but I didn't find anything as good as Jimi or Lennon. If you have examples of specific Prince tracks that contain guitar playing on a comparable level to Jimi or lyrics that are as good as what Lennon wrote, I'd appreciate it if you could share cause I highly doubt those exist.

I'm sorry I don't understand where your saying I'm incorrect?

The " all artists " I was referring to were the ones mentioned above and as I said Prince was the " musicians musician "

I never inferred that he was a better guitarist than Jimi but as a the whole box and dice as far as instruments played and production Prince is superior to anyone

    The complete package

Billy Gibbons if you google it says he couldn't fathom how Prince played that riff at the start of when doves cry

Look it up it's really fascinating to see how the 2 of them just spoke about guitars and music for hours on end

One thing I do disagree with you on though Rovim if I can is you saying Prince wasn't adventurous well that's not the case as Prince has developed music in every genre

Questlove said Prince virtually invented music using a drum machine and that everyone else is just imitating him

Listen to the song guitar yes that's actually the name of it by Prince if you want to hear some playing

As far as anything measuring up to Jimi that's a different question

How many instruments could Jimi play?

Prince could play 21 by age 11

He played better than Jimi IMO and he was every bit as good of a lyricist of Lennon too.

Woah there. Not to be a cunt, but I disagree. Good post, but I think you took it too far. Prince was a genius. I don't use that word often. He was one of the best ever. But he wasn't Jimi, Lennon, Elvis, and Brown all rolled into 1. Come on now. No way.

Especially not Jimi or Lennon. Wasn't as good as Jimi when it came to guitar playing, and Lennon had something else no one had. Don't mean to be annoying, as I've listened to most of Prince's catalog and it's great stuff but this is an exaggeration.

The point I'm making is Prince was a combination of all artists

In other words he brought a bit of everything to the table

gunnermatt I agree with the sentiments of your post, I feel like Prince never got the credit he truly deserves even in his death

Most people know Purple Rain, Kiss, When Doves Cry, the Dave Chappele skit, etc.  But this is a dude who in a lot of played all of the instruments on a good number of the songs he wrote, he wrote an ungodly amount of songs, hand picked not only his own incredible bands but also other bands for him to write material for, danced, had an incredible singing range, and on top of that just never stopped being awesome live even up to the last show he ever did

If the term "musical genius" is applied to only a few musicians, I feel that Prince should be included in that list.  And to add to your list - Miles Davis gushed about Prince and Steven Wilson does too

Couldn't agree more as a music lover the songs you mentioned above were just a just a drop in Princes vast ocean of work

    Well said Whazup

  14. Hi people I felt compelled to talk about Prince

Prince is the musicians musician if that description even gets close to the mark

Now that's not mine that's from the following people - Clapton Jagger Vedder Nicks Lauper Madonna Bon Jovi Wood Gallagher Smith Morello Richards Timberlake

Charlie Watts said he's the best in history and that was before he died along with the majority of people mentioned above

Elton John said he's the greatest live performer that's lived

Mick Jagger said years ago that no one can touch him as he has created and mastered every music genre

Eddie Vedder said he's the best guitarist on earth

Tom Petty raved about him and still does

These aren't your average Joe's talking here these are the idolised by millions themselves and that's what carries the m ost weight

Prince wrote produced and played every instrument on his first album at 17 and remember no technology back then

The record company executives are on record as saying gee this band sound really tight until someone pointed out that is was Prince playing everything

Ask Slash & Duff & Tom Morello

The guy has made 37 albums and when you make comparisons about him with others like the Beatles and stones remember they wrote together and you count on 1 hand how many songs Prince co wrote throughout his career and Prince didn't have George Martin to produce either

Did everything himself because he could do it better than anyone else

When you talk about Michael Jackson he used a lot of co writers especially flavour of the month producers and writers

Michael was a genius but nowhere near Princes level

Prince had balls too when every artist were falling over themselves to get on the recording of We are the World  he flat out told Jackson and Quincy Jones he won't do it cause he hated the song not the cause just the song

Michael then asked him to duet with him on bad and Prince who according to everyone especially Chris Rock had a great sense of humour , told Michael you ain't singing your butt is mine to me and I ain't singing it to you lol

Its on YouTube check it out

Prince still has over 1000 songs recorded and mixed in his vaults and I just read 2 fantastic books on him and he never stopped working and creating or playing and performing

Prince was all of Hendrix Lennon Presley Brown Jackson all rolled into 1 and for the people that say he's not go listen to his catalogue from start to finish then come back to the table

Untouchable and no one will ever get close

Mick Jagger once said Prince has more talent in his fingernail than I have in my whole body

How many times did Paul McCartney play 2 shows in 1 night then play another 4 hour show at a club in the early hours

Then go straight to a studio and work for 3 days straight

People talk about Purple Rain well his next album Around the world in a day is not only brilliant but it was already recorded and ready to go before the Purple Rain movie come out and it was completely different music

Prince lived and breathed music and would still be doing if he hadn't died from a drug addiction to painkillers due to an operation on his hip

I'm from Melbourne Australia and my great est regret is missing out on getting tickets for his piano and microphone tour here earlier this year

I haven't been on here for a long time and I'm rapt to see most of the gunners back together

I welcome anyone who wants to debate me about Prince

Just do your research before you do please

    Matt
