  1. Agreed not too many musicians make their music to cater to fans but sales it can give you a pretty good guage as to the quality of the music.

Wrong on two levels. Firstly, most musicians today make music to cater to the fans. KISS, AC/DC, Metallica, Motely Crue etc are all making esentially the same album time and time again in orrder to pander to the public. Secondly, many great albums have performed poorly on a commercial level. If you think commercial success is correlated with artistic achievement you need to be saved by Jesus my friend.

  2. His voice isn't as good as it was in his '86 prime but he sounds way fucking better than he did in the early 90's. Anybody who can't hear that is retarded. In the UYI days Axl generally sounded extremely strained and like he had a hairball in his throat. Listen to the early 90's concerts. Now he's out of breath often times but he gets the highs easily, strains much less, and his voice sounds much, much healthier.

  3. If Axl don't do a reunion, I hope he never release any music again. It has been shown that he need Slash, Duff and Izzy to do something great.

On the contrary, we've seen that none of the previous members (even combined as in Velvet Revolver) can put out even a single good song. I think it's become abundantly clear over the past few years that Axl was basically the lone creative force behind the original lineup. The new lineup is a bit more balanced, with guys like Stinson being much more respectable as overall musicians than anyone from the original lineup besides Axl.

  4. Lol, are thread starter serious? Freddie is no way overrated. He's one of the best singers ever, and thee's no way he's overraded, more underrated. Of course he had some nights off, singing horrible, just like any other great singer would have. The thing about Freddie, he alwaus wanted to do the songs different each time. It never sounded like it was on the record. Always something new about each song. What a singer. If you say he is only a regular vocalist, your must have lost your ears...

So cracking on the notes, skipping the high notes etc was just something he did to make the songs more interesting?

  5. I've got plenty of Queen recordings, and on nearly every one Freddie sounds great. Freddie is one of those vocalists who doesn't necessarily sing a song the same every time he performed it, he liked to take risks and try some different inflections on certain lines. Listen to Under Pressure or Hammer To Fall on Live At Wembley, those are some of his finest moments IMO.

Sounding like shit was just an affectation, right?

My opinion on Maiden has no relevance in this conversation, nor do I have an "infatuation" with Bruce. Do I enjoy his voice? Yes. Do I think he is bar-none the greatest vocalist ever? Fuck no. And if you want to argue about the merits of a good voice from a purely technical standpoint, I'd fucking send you crying to your mommy. But I don't need to waste my Saturday arguing with an obvious cupcake, I've got better shit to do.

Lawl, that's a good one. As a trained and very experienced singer I can guarantee you that I know much more about the technical side of vocals than you do. Chris Cornell's abilities as a vocalist are vastly beyond Freddie's. His breath support, switching, melismatic abilities, and overall vocal control blow Freddie's out of the water, that's not even debatable. Go to 5:30 in the link in my last post in this thread for an example of the kind of singing that makes Freddie's entire career look like a sad joke.
