South Beach was dead Monday night. Hopefully the parking lot is more exciting tomorrow!! Anyone know what time lots open? Parking prices?

Marlins Park is really lousy with providing information.  I was there at the All-Star Game a few weeks ago, some garages opened at 11:30 AM and others opened 90 minutes before gates.  Parking is $35, they sell most in advance.  I'll be in one of the garages between 4:30-5:00 until around 7 PM (not gonna bother with Simpson).

  2. Cheapest seats from Ticketmaster are now $135 including fees (there's a few scattered singles at $55 though).   Not bad for a Tuesday night in the middle of summer in Miami. :headbang:

Can't believe I've been holding onto my tickets since last year!

What is a game of chicken?

It's a term originated when drivers would play a game whereby they speed directly at each other, and whomever swerves out of the way to safety first is the loser.  If neither car swerves, the head on collision makes them both losers.  LOL

In this instance, you've got people waiting to buy with the hope that prices will be lowered before the show.   And you've got the box office (and Ticketmaster) waiting to reduce prices with the hope that people will buy them at the currently inflated prices.  Eventually either the buyers will give in and pay the higher prices, or Ticketmaster will lower the prices.

I've waited until day of concert to buy tickets in the past, sometimes I saved a lot of money and sometimes it cost me.  Hard to predict.

does anybody know (or has an idea) where will they stay?

Yup, I'll be staying in my seat the whole time.

Well as I thought the middle and upper level seats are almost completely sold out, no more $35 seats as the in-the-door price is now $50.

No more pit tickets, but still a ton of back section floor seats for $270.  It's a game of chicken at this point.

    any pic of the venue?

Here's an up-to-the-minute pic .... probably 75% of seats sold, and there will likely be a strong walkup crowd for those who refuse to pay the Ticketmaster fees.

I think they want all the cheap ($35-$55) seats sold so that people are forced to buy the expensive seats to get in.  Don't think it will work, though ... I expect huge price reductions for floor and lower bowl.

Just a heads up that there were some more price reductions that showed up this morning (or maybe sometime yesterday).  The remaining lower level "behind home plate" seats as well as the entire second level have been reduced from $80 to $55.  Upper deck remains $35.  They are still holding the closer seats at $99/$150/$199/$270 as they've been for a while.

There's been a price surge for pit tickets.  Only Slash's side is still available, and they are selling for $360.

Tough call.  Section 2 is probably 100 ft (30 meters) closer to the center of the stage.  Section 11 gives a more straight on, centered view.  It comes down to your preference if you'd rather be closer or centered.  The seats in section 2 are also angled away from the stage.   Section 11 isn't angled towards the stage either but there will be less of a neck twist if you are seated.

My biggest advise is no matter what seats you choose, don't arrive at the last minute.  The traffic getting to the area of the stadium can be VERY heavy in the early evening on a week night.  Once you get near the stadium, it can clog up and take a while to get to your parking space or drop off point (if taking a Taxi or Uber).  Especially coming from the east side, there is a draw bridge that can really back things up.  Leaving from the stadium isn't bad but getting to it on a week night can be.

Feel free to ask any other questions that come up.  I've been to Marlins Park several times but I also attended at least 70 football games at the same site when the Orange Bowl Stadium was there.

So right about the traffic.  I went to Marlins Park last Sunday and Tuesday for the All-Star Game, even getting to Miami by 4:00 PM and still it took forever to drive the short distance from I-95 to the parking garage.  Sure enough, I got stuck at that drawbridge.  This is why so many people refuse to see the Marlins, horrible location to reach and very limited parking.

Is there some kind of noise ordinance for weeknights?  I'm wondering if that's the reason for the earlier start time.  Or maybe they've got a second opener?

  8. 18 hours ago, Gnrcane said:

I've got 2 pit tickets on Slash's side.  I recommend taking the turnpike and then the I-95 express lanes down and it shouldn't be too horrible.  Just be prepared for getting from the left to the right very quickly when the express lanes end and you need to get to 836.

Thanks, looking forward to it.  Never been to a concert in a baseball park before.

So exactly what i said, it was a sample that they later capitalized on, it wasn't a collaboration in the purest sense of the word, it wasn't them going 'hey Aerosmith, we wanna use a part of your song, come re-record it with us' and rather more a case of a sample of a song getting big and then them re-doing it together cuz the song with the sample getting popular and it benefitting all parties.

The idea that it made hip hop commercially viable is ridiculous, its a breakthrough song but that suggests that it wouldn't've otherwise.

Also the impact you're talking about is mainstream impact, if you think mixing rock and rap is very respected or rated in the hip hop community you're very much mistaken.

Lenny my friend, rap evolved from rock!

Why do you think so many rappers - pre and post Run DMC - have been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame?

What did Run DMC call themselves?

Did they refer to themselves as the "King of Rap"?

Noooo!  They referred to themselves as the "King of ROCK".

In fact, their 2nd studio album - recorded in 1984, long before Walk This Way - was titled "King of ROCK" and included heavy guitar riffs in most of the songs.  THAT album reached #12 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts.

So tell me again how mixing rock and rap is not respected in the hip hop community?  :P

Are you familiar at all with Soul Train?

If you aren't, trust me when I say there's no chance Walk This Way would have won Soul Train's Best Rap Single Award without the support of the Hip Hop Community.

So while the mixture of established rock and rap acts certainly helped Hip Hop/Rap go mainstream, you're very much mistaken to think the mixing of rock and rap wasn't respected in the hip hop community.  Because without the support of the Hip Hop Community, there's no chance albums like King of Rock and songs like Walk This Way would have climbed the Hip Hop charts and won Soul Train Best Rap Single awards.

And how much does the hip hop community shine a light on those collabs?  Zero.  They're more or less embarassed about it.  How many issues of Vibe or Source get on that shit?  How many times do Hot 97 and Power 105 get on that shit?  And credibility of a Run DMC or a Public Enemy is different to credibility of a Cypress Hill and an NWA, which is a street level cred thing, of which NWAs was shaky in the first place.  Apart from Eazy neither of em was the real deal on that level, Cypress is hard to take the cred' from because they proved their stripes when things kicked off but you think Cypress have 100% cred?  What do you think all that hip hop hippies shit was about?  It weren't a compliment.  And you can bet that later in the day a lot would've been made of their associating with a group that made One in a Million.

And was the Aerosmith thing a 100% musical collab or was it just a sample that both parties capitalized on to make some money?

For now I'll address Walk This Way.

It wasn't just Run DMC sampling the original song, it also included new recording of Tyler's vocals and Perry's guitar therefore it was a true collaboration.

As for the impact on the hip hop community?

The new version was on Raising Hell, which was Run DMC's album ... it wasn't on Aerosmith's album.

It was DMC's first single that went Gold.

Along with Licensed To Ill, it helped create a whole new genre called rap rock (Magnificent Seven didn't have the impact, especially in the US).

It won Run DMC the Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Single.

It was the first Hip Hop song to hit Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It was basically THE song that made Run DMC mainstream stars.

The song made Hip Hop music commercially viable, which up to that point had been looked at as a fad by many critics.

C'mon mate.  I know you think very highly of NWA and never cared much for GNR, but this notion of yours that NWA would somehow have lost respect in the hip hop community if they had done a couple shows with GNR is pure bollocks.

  11. Yeah I'm leaving West Palm around 4PM that day, dreading that drive to Marlins Park.  Scheduling on a Tuesday definitely didn't help ticket sales, it was so much better in Orlando because it was a Friday.  Ah well, che sarà.

I've got one pit ticket on Slash's side, and a lower level pair behind home plate.  Not sure if I will go alone and use the pit ticket, or take a girl and use the pair.

Apparently he is a country artist.  I never heard of him either.  Since I have pit tickets, I will have to listen to his set if I want a good spot in the pit.  I have no clue why they would choose him as the opening act when the venue is in the middle of one of the most Hispanic areas of the country.

I can kinda understand going with him as an opener for Colorado and Arkansas ... but Miami?

It's like management figured "Florida is far south, so all Floridians must like country music."

    Ummm ... no.

Probably 70% of Floridians have Northern roots, or roots in other countries.

I got AIC and The Cult as GNR openers the past couples shows I attended, no complaints about them.  But this Simpson guy?  What a major letdown.

The thing I don't get is why a hard rock band would have a mellow country singer as the opener.  Fans of GNR, for the most part, are not country music fans.  An opener for a rock band is supposed to get the fans primed and pumped for the main event.  I can't see that happening in Miami, not with that crowd.

    Deftones
    Live
    Royal Blood
    Our Lady Peace
    ZZ Top

    Lenny Kravitz
    AIC
    The Cult
    Sebastian Bach
    Tyler Bryant
    Wolfmother
    Billy Talent

    The Struts

    They all make sense.

My favorite of all the GNR openers I've seen in recent years, The Pretty Reckless ... great performance, perfect match.

Here's a sample of what a Simpson hit song is like, try to stay awake!

No. I allready wrote it in my story.

We held it up at "This I love" when he came at the end of the catwalk. +, like I allready said: we held it infront of the rail, not UP so blocked people's view. Because that would be annoying for people behind us.

Okay thanks. I was looking at the picture in this thread of you holding up the sign above your head while all the other fans were standing and looking toward the stage, I guess that's a pic of something else?

Looks like they reduced prices except for the floor seats.  The upper deck was drastically reduced to $35.

There is still an insane amount of unsold seats for this show, and the opening act didn't help sell tickets.

I expect those upper deck seats to be selling for $20 within a month, if not on Ticketmaster then on the secondary market.

Ok? strange behaviour! :blink:Thank you so much!! :)

Yea, like I mentioned earlier I've seen Axl's expressions as he reads banners and it never seem to bother him so it doesn't seem like it's his orders. If I ever get to meet him again I will actually ask about this.

    Two questions:

Were you holding up the sign often, while the band was performing?  And were there any other people in your area holding up signs during the songs?

Most likely they took the sign because it was blocking the view of people behind you.

    Yeah....thanks to Europe!!

They should've booked twice as many dates in Europe instead of that pointless secondary markets US leg...

Couldn't agree more.  I'm looking at Miami ticket sales right now and it seems like only about 20% of the tickets are sold so far, including many bought that are now on the secondary market.  It was just 4 months ago that Floridians filled up a football stadium for the Orlando show to see a band that hadn't been together for decades.  But to do it again in a baseball stadium for a band they just saw a year earlier?  And to put them on sale just two weeks before Christmas when many people are already maxing out their credit cards?  It's hard to justify at those prices.

They've got 8 months to sell tickets, they'll get sold but no doubt after some big price reductions.  And I know a few people that won't go because of The Mexico Incident, I figured that would impact US ticket sales.

She did buy the floor seat on Stubhub. She never actually went to her real seat. She walked up to the front row with us, security said they were aware she wasn't supposed to be there but said they didn't care lol. She did get a refund the next morning.

Glad it worked out for all of you and she got her money back.  Hopefully the guy who sold her that ticket gets banned from using StubHub again.  Good thing security was cool about letting her in the venue with a used ticket.

We were in row 1 right behind the pit. I've been to at least 150 concerts (6th time I've seen GNR). This one was my favorite, hands down.

    Just something else to share..

I went with my fiance and a mutual female friend (she'll be referred to as Liz). Liz had 2 tickets in section 143 and was supposed to go with a friend. The morning of the show, her friend cancelled. So we listed her two tickets on stubhub. They sold in 30 minutes. She took that money and bought 1 floor ticket in the same section my fiance and I were in (row 20). When we got to the gate they scanned her ticket... red X on the scanner. "Ma'am, this ticket has already been scanned." She had them try it again. Red X. They brought a supervisor over. The supervisor tried it with her scanner. Same thing. She told her, "go ahead in. I'll let it slide one time." Great news for us, but really odd they'd let someone in without a legit ticket (any attendance numbers you see for this show.. add 1.) We find our row 1 seats. Security guy asks Liz for her ticket. She said, "I'm in row 20 but I'm just hanging with them for a few." Security guy says, "You can stay up here. I got you." Once again, great news for us but odd they'd allow this. We watch the show, love every second, annoyingly scream every word, etc.

After the PC fireworks, I wanted to try something. I asked Liz for her Nightrain fan club lanyard (she wore it after she saw some people got upgraded... STILL waiting for mine to come in the mail). I said, "I'm going to walk backstage, wait here." They were both like, "Oh ok, sure. Go ahead." I put the lanyard on and start walking towards the backstage area to the right of the stage. While doing so I actually run into Chris Jericho. He was drunk. We spoke for a moment. He loved the show. Anyway, I walked right through a crowd of 15-20 security personnel with no issue. Now I'm behind the stage. Didn't see much. Mostly just forklifts carrying pieces of equipment. I started to act like I was directing them so it would look like I had some purpose for being there. Some guy was filling a cooler with water bottles that he said were for the band. I asked him for one and he threw one to me. I hung around for about 5 minutes. I could see the stadium was almost empty and I didn't want to get separated from the girls. I figured if security give this few fucks, I could get them backstage too. I come back out and asked security to move the barricade for them so they could come back with me. The guy actually started moving it! Finally one of the supervisors noticed my lanyard and said we gotta go. Had I left them out in the stadium, I could've walked all the way to the dressing area.

While this is a fun story (at least, for me, it was fun to do), all this brings up alot of serious problems. After what just happened a few weeks ago at Pulse night club in Orlando, you'd think security would be a little tighter and a little bit more on their game. They let someone in without a ticket and some random person just walk backstage. This is how bad shit can happen.

I am not at all surprised about the lax security, as I've walked into several restricted concert areas over the years.

How did Liz buy her ticket?  If it was on StubHub, she should call them and demand a refund.  She didn't confront the person who was sitting in her seat?  I always wondered what would happen if a seller uses a downloaded ticket that they already sold.

Palm Beach County here too!  Can't wait for Friday. It'll be my 3rd GNR show this year ( went to both Vegas shows) 7th time overall. Have Floor seats in Sec 2. Passed on pit tix, too hot.

Another Palm Beacher here!  And I also went to Vegas, saw just the first show though.  That'd be funny if we were on the same plane, although I flew out of FLL and I'm guessing you flew out of PBI.

Thanks everyone for all of the help! It is much appreciated.  I just bought a parking pass for Lot 7. One of my main concerns was the traffic near the stadium but I'm just going to give myself 2-2 1/2 hours or so as another poster suggested. I'll only be with my sister so I'd rather be safe than sorry and just park at one of the stadium lots.

Smart choice, I'm in 7 too.

Yeah 12:30 AM (assuming you stay to the end) in an unfamiliar area that's known for crime just ain't worth saving a few extra bucks.
