  1. Hey guys,

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but what's the deal with the rock am Ring show from 2006?

I always hear people saying that 2010 was the best "Nu-GN'R" line-up. But when I watch the Rock AM ring show it seems to sound so much better than any other Nu-GNR show. Is it just me?

Also, does anybody know about the nature of the recording? It's obviously very well done! Was it remixed or edited or anything to sound as good as it does? or was the band just on fire that night? I know it wasn't like officially released by the band, but was it on Youtube like RIR IV was?

Thanks for any info you're able to share!

  2. do you guys think both of these pro-shot concerts will be the same? or is it possible to expect different surprises from each? To me it seems more fitting to debut something "crazy" (new song, old song, guest star.... ECT) on new years eve. Im not sure why i think this.... but it just seems like something axl would appreciate

  3. Does Duff still get to play GN'R songs, even if Axl and the band are planning on playing the same ones later on?

    interesting question, eh?

I think at most he'd throw out 'Attitude' ;)

Doubt he'd play on 'Easy', too early in the set. Possibly on Civil War though? Hell, maybe Rocket Queen?

I think he meant not so much what songs would Duff join on stage for, but if Duff would still do songs like It's So Easy during Loaded's set (which he usually does) even though Axl would be doing the same ones later on.

I say that Duff would probably realize this and drop the obvious ones (again, It's So Easy) but keep So Fine and Attitude which wouldn't be done during the Guns set anyways.

Then he could always join for a couple songs with Guns. Patience is probably a given, then maybe a song on bass then join on guitar like he did last time for Knockin' and Nice Boys. It'd be awesome if he did Rocket Queen on bass. To me, that is a more definitive Duff bass line than You Could Be Mine. As awesome as it was that he was up there doing that song last year, nothing really stands out about the bass in that song that's distinctly Duff, whereas Rocket Queen's bass line is key to the song.

yeah! thats what i meant. I know Duff usually plays ISE with loaded, also patience and a few others...

For some reason I didn't even think about duff joining GNR on stage... Now that you mention it though, it seems like a no brainer seeing as ZaKK Wylde is doing it. I can see duff doing YCBM and KOHD again.. maybe patience. I doubt he would be on for ISE or any of the stuff at the beginning of the set because usually that is a bit more scripted

  4. He must have loved the positive reaction to Civil War at the last show. How did people react to Scraped several shows back?

I was at the show where they played Scraped. It didn't get too much of a response. I think some people didn't know it, others were disappointed that it got the spot that Better usually was played. I thought it was cool - and well played - but still was a little sad I didn't get to see Better live!

  5. But there isnt a real vehicle for music videos these days other than Youtube for bands like GNR. GNR came up during the video era, and 20 years later, videos for real rock bands just arent as relavant as they once were. Stations like MTV and VH1 rarely air videos, so you have to seek them out, whether it be youtube or offical DVD releases. Theres no point in dumping millions of dollars into videos nobodies going to see, other than on mtv2 at 4 a.m. Its fucking redic.

I agree with you. It's no longer an effective avenue... which hurts to say because I grew up on GN'R videos... I suppose a youtube video could get a kind of underground counter-culture pro-new-GN'R movement going... but that's pretty much how GN'R exists these days anyways IMHO.

What Guns needs to do IMHO is somehow show (and it ain't going to be easy) that they're truly ready to "pick up where the old band left off" (to quote DJ Ashba). Hate to break out this tired old rumor/dream/etc... but to get massive attention back- IMHO Guns needs to do something MAJOR like KICK ASS at a Super Bowl Half-Time Show or at Euro 2012 (European Soccer Championships), or on Saturday Night Live, etc. and pair it up with professional promotion for either a CD re-release with new art-work and a quality bonus track (ideally a rocker for a blockbuster movie like YCBM back in the day), or a live blu-ray DVD, or...

They've had a couple of these type of opportunities in the last decade or so- and they've always seemed to foul the pitch off. They need one more crack at it and to really step into it this time... Positively, Axl's finally got a band with not only the chops- but the right image the public expects for Guns N' Roses. The time could finally be right.

if they were booked for the superbowl halftime show axl would probably take the stage midway through the 4th quarter...... ;)
