anyone else getting a pink floyd - run like hell vibe at the beginning of boulevard of broken hearts .!!?!?

Yep I can hear it a bit. I was also hearing something I couldn't put my finger on and it ended up being I Got ID by Pearl Jam. Boulevard of Broken Hearts is definately the highlight for me. Love it. Will go well in a playlist with Anastasia and Wicked Stone.

Rest of the Album is up and down but I can't fault the guitar playing. The Man, The Myth, The Legend.

  2. Agree with Soul Monster. Mainly to do with his recorded stuff, I don't listen to the live shows. With the Conspiritors I think he is maybe more technical and faster (and I really enjoy listening to it) than the old stuff, but it just doesn't have the magic of the old stuff. The old stuff was almost vocal like and you could sing along with it.

That's not putting him down cause he is still with his current stuff my favorite player by miles. Love all the new records.

So when they go on tour will Slash still bother playing GNR songs in the set?

    if so ,, why??

I hope not. Maybe one or two. If I can recall I think Slash wanted to play those songs when he started with the Conspirator's as at that time he had no outlet to play them live. Now he is back in Guns I hope he leaves them out of the set. He has so many great songs outside of Guns now that his fans want to hear and the fans at the Conspirators show I think would be more Slash fan than Guns fan if you know what I mean.

  4. That was a great interview. Really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of the Black Crowes from their first 10 years and always loved Steve Gorman's drumming. Didn't realize he was such a good speaker. The stuff with Steve and his interactions with Slash and Gilby and Duff were gold. And I have never really dug into the band drama in The Black Crowes. I knew there was issues between the Robinson Brothers but didn't realize it was at the level it is.

I wanna give some props to Brando. It might just be the slight culture difference (I am Aussie) but I struggled warming to your radio persona if that's the right word (and don't take that as an insult, we all have individual preference's) but you have done a great job with the interviews. Your guests really seem to open up and come off relaxed and provide some great stories. Not the same old stuff you get with normal interviews. And the variety of guests has been fantastic. I don't post much here but wanted to let you know I am a fan of your show.

    Cheers

  5. Hi All. I Program my own midi's for my Beatbuddy Drum Pedal that contain drum and bass and thought I might share them here.

I sometimes start with some freely available midi's and and modify them. I just finished with Mr Brownstone which I created the drum track from scratch and use a free midi to source the bass. Sweet Child drum was done from scratch, not sure about the bass. Knockin on Heavens door is a modified midi and I only use it in loops so it is not the full song and Patience was done from scratch.

Due to the way the beatbuddy play's bass lines the Bass parts are two octaves higher and need to be transposed down to the right range.

    Cheers

  6. I think DJ has got his ex Guns guitarist mixed up. Instead of writing a song that sounds like Slash and Guns he has produced one that sounds like Gilby Clarke in Rockstar Supernova. Even the singers sound similar.

  7. Just noticed they are using Slash and Bent to Fly to promote the NRL footy finals that start in just over a week here in Australia. There is this Youtube clip from the start of a game two weeks ago and I just saw an Advert on TV

Radio station Triple M which is the station playing bent to fly and broadcast games on the radio has stated that it is rumored that Slash may be one of the performers for the Grand Final.

  8. Well, it's not like anyone these days are going to get away from that standard music structure without totally going progressive, which I may doubt Slash may be game for (going prog). Even though Mark Tremonti and Myles stated that they wanted to get away with the standard song structure in Fortress, they still had all of those "predictable" structure elements. The difference though is that they manage to add a lot of depth while working these structures.

It's something like that which is why I hate it when people say that bands need to get away from the standard song structure for a song to be good. What structure could be applied for a band like this?

I Probably should of made myself a bit clearer. It's not that i have anything against verse/chorus/bridge structure. To me there were to many songs on Apocalyptic Love had a bridge forced into the song that didn't fit the song. Standing in the Sun has a groove throughout the song that is interupted by a bridge that to me doesn't fit. Anastasia is six minutes with no bridge and is perfect.
Favorite part of the record is the extended endings of Standing in the Sun and Anastasia. More Please.
  9. Im with you on Blackbird ZoSoRose. It's my favorite song. I normally listen for the music and most of the time don't put much thought into what the lyrics are about but Blackbird grabs me everytime I listen to it and really brings out some emotions. Great solos on it as well that really elevate it towards the end.

"Not for me" on AL gets me as well.

I hope Myles can step it up a bit on this one and get away from the predicable verse chorus bridge as I have a feeling in my bones the music is going to be great.

  10. Love Apocalyptic Love but I really hope they record the new album a bit more conventionally.

AL sounds great in the car or stereo system but I struggle with it through head phones. There are two guitar tracks for most songs with each track panned hard to one side. Most of the songs are one take with little overdubs. Slash is one guitar and Myles the other. Myles tracks are more simple chords and riffing. Slash plays most of the solos on the same take as the rest of the track hence it is Myles track only behind the solo. The solo's are not panned to the middle of the mix. When listening with headphones I find it distracting but no problems through a Sound system

Bad rain is perfect example of this.

I followed the recording of the album at the time and it was said that all the tracks except vocals and some overdubs were recorded live by the four of them in one room with Slash having his own box as seen in this clip.

Myles parts to me sound a bit generic and definately don't sound like Slash. I could pan to Slashes side and listen to it all day.

(Note not saying Myles is a bad guitar player but he plays second fiddle to Slash. In Alter Bridge he is more prominent)

Personally I would love to see him make a Sequel to Ain't life grand with Rod Jackson

  11. Hi, Long time browser mainly in the slash section but first time poster. I am a big fan of the old guns but do keep an interest in what Axl does. I just had to post after seeing this show on youtube.

I'm having trouble believing that what I just watched was someone who is a professional singer and has been all his life. That performance would be ridiculed at a karaoke night. I'm really trying hard not to disrespect the man but Axl's singing was embarrassing. It's an insult to himself and the whole Guns n Roses History to perform a show like that. I just had another listen to Better. OMG.

I play in a band just for kicks with some friends and if my singer sounded like that I would rather quit than play a show. I have been trying to find my own singing voice for years and think I have finally found it so I can respect how good a singer Axl was back in the day and just how hard singing can be.

    It really makes me sad.
