  1. TWAT is the better song, but the soloing isnt anything special. People really overrate that song in my opinion. It should be the better song anyway considering it was what, 15 years in the making? When I first heard people talking about it, I expected it to be like Estranged or November Rain. It's far below those unfortunately. Not because of Axl though, the guitar parts just arent that soulful and those guys really lack a sense of melody when compared to GNR era Slash. Its not bad by any stretch of the imagination, a really great song no doubt. But on the level as Coma, Estranged, November Rain, bitch please....

Nothing either of them have done will ever compare to this I'm afraid.

Just listen to the first solo in this. That's something nugunners simply cant match.

  2. Im not sure if you can, but did they not later credit them in the later releases? Im not a huge Led Zep fan but I thought I read that somewhere. Would be a huge admission of guilt if so. And by 100% on D&C I mean clear, cut, 100 percent obviously stolen with no way to deny it.

  3. I've seen those, and yes it's pretty apparent Plant didn't change the lyrics when he was supposed to. It was mostly on the blues songs they covered and then on original compositions where Plant sang old blues lyrics. But the thing is, everybody did it. All those blues guys Zeppelin covered, they did it as well.

Reading what JP says, I really don't detect any shame:

"[A]s far as my end of it goes, I always tried to bring something fresh to anything that I used. I always made sure to come up with some variation. In fact, I think in most cases, you would never know what the original source could be. Maybe not in every case -- but in most cases. So most of the comparisons rest on the lyrics. And Robert was supposed to change the lyrics, and he didn't always do that -- which is what brought on most of the grief. They couldn't get us on the guitar parts of the music, but they nailed us on the lyrics. We did, however, take some liberties, I must say [laughs]. But never mind; we did try to do the right thing."

Way to throw Plant under the bus. Which is funny, since Robert tries so hard since the 80s to be super original with his music almost to a fault. :tongue2:

And again some of those were traditionals, so there was nobody to steal from.

The songs that were traditional , artists before them had their own personal interpretation. Zeppelin took THEIR interpretation and claimed it as their own. And then you have songs like Dazed and Confused which are 100 percent rip offs with no credit.

Anyway, the point is you find stuff like this all over music. So Slash taking a few riffs, most of which are his own, and using them on this record is a non issue.

"Imitation Is The Highest Form Of Flattery"

  4. Maybe not quite half, but definitely more than a bit. Enough to be ashamed of it.

I doubt they'd be ashamed, if they were so blatant about it. Although a few of them are listed as "traditional" so there's nobody to steal them from.

Willie Dixon took them to court, they just paid him off.

What goes around comes around too, since you can hear a good bit of Zeppelin in every band that's come out since then...

Goes alot further than Willie Dixon. They SHOULD be ashamed whether they are or not.

check out part 2 and 3 of these videos as well. Its so ridiculously obvious its pathetic.

  5. a few licks here and there yes, you think thats bad? Listen to Led Zeppelin. Half of their catalog is blatant plagarism from beginning to end, riffs, lryics and all. Slash using a barely similar lick from 26 years ago hardly is considered such.

  6. Listening to Track 1 Chinese Democracy, ahhhhhh, so refreshing to hear a real vocalist again. That Myles shit will drive you up a fuckin wall.

I was worried about that. I was thinking of getting the CD but his voice IMO is more suited for AB than Slash's Aerosmith music.

What's it like going from Apocalyptic Love to Chinese Democracy?

A breath of fresh air. I think Slash has played it safe with cock rock for way too long. Its old and tired and hes capable of so much fuckin more its sad. He's badly in need of a real song writer and vocalist. With the right band, He can throw a melody at you that can bring you to tears. I often wonder what Slash would've sounded like on CD had he never quit. I think Axl would've tapped into something else entirely and driven him to create a new side of himself.

i was listening to anastasia today in the car, and thinking with a little axl genius this song could have taken off to another level.. and I'm not talking just axls vocals and song writing.. but his structuring of songs.. i think axl could have pulled the song apart and rebuilt it into a monster of a song.. not trying to take anything away from slash.. that song is unreal.. but just the emotion slash puts in some of his songs you would really thing that he was trying to communicate to you without vocals..

That's exactly what hes done there, and thats part of the problem. His leads and solos are generally great while the rest is often uninspired and leaves one begging for more(better). With Axl, you had great lyrics and an amazing voice that was conveying true passion. He had you hooked, hanging on to every word. Take NR or Estranged for example, His words were beautiful and everything led up perfectly to the climax with Slash's amazing solos/outros. Songs like Locomotive and Coma broke traditional song structures and felt like emotional rollercoasters, really fantastic stuff. I feel on Slash's stuff its the same structure in EVERY. SINGLE. SONG...Another thing, where is all of Slash's fills in his songs? He doesnt do much of that any more. All you hear is: riff, solo, riff ends/maybe outro. Nothing happens in between.

  8. I havent listened to it since it came out, well once through in 2009 still didnt like it. Just got listening to AL all the way through so I guess I owe it to Axl to listen to his all the way through again, certainly nothing new of his to listen to!

  9. My take after a full listen through

    1. Apocalyptic Love

Bit general sounding, but not a bad riff and Slash's leads with the wah are fun to listen to. 6/10

    2. One Last Thrill

Very Appetite sounding, Think About You and Anything Goes anyone? I love the music, although this style isnt a great match for Myles. The riff is great and i would fuckin kill to hear Axl on this. Slash's leads are fired up and very Appetite like. Love it. 9/10

    3. Standing in the Sun

One of those songs that can only truly be appreciated driving in 100 degree heat with the windows rolled down on a desert highway. I love that locomotive/immgrant song riff mix. Alot of fun. 8/10

    4. You're a Lie

A bit shallow sounding overall but the solo is great. 5/10

    5. No More Heroes

Seems to get a bit of hate, but I really like the Metroid sounds and the solo. Very nice 7/10.

    6. Halo

Love the riff, but Myles vocals on this just dont match the song very well in my opinion. Could have been a great metal song. 3/10

    7. We Will Roam

Boring but the outro was ok. 3/10

    8. Anastasia

best song on the album and one of the best he's done since Guns N Roses. One of those great epics Slash does really well. I love the neo-classical riff. 10/10

    9. Not for Me

Beautiful song, Myles sounds great on this and Slash's solos remind me of the Snakepit ballads. My 2nd favorite on this album.

    10. Bad Rain

    just terrible. 2/10

    11. Hard & Fast

Another great Appetite sounding song, minus Myles. He sounds like a female country singer on this song for some reason so it ruins it for me. Otherwise would've been killer. 6/10

    12. Far and Away

I appreciate what they were trying to do here, but it just fell on its face. Myles is too montone on this. Slash's solo sounded cool, but very thin. The outro sounded a bit bad, Slash's playing just felt out of sync with Myles, almost like a bad mashup in certain spots. 4/10

    13. Shots Fired

Cool, fun song. Nothing spectacular, but fun to listen to. 6/10

    14. Carolina

The Chorus on this is just bad, the talk box bit sounds awesome though. No idea what Slash was thinking with that solo though, probably the worst he's played. I dont think I've heard a "bad" solo from Slash before, but this one is horrible. 3/10

    15. Crazy Life

Great rock song, myles sounds pretty good here. 6/10

Overall, I'd give it maybe a 6/10. Some really great songs and riffs, but I think Slash would have been better served with a better rhythm section and a more aggressive vocalist. My biggest issue was in between solos sounded a bit stale with not much going on and Myles vocals generally never helped that. A vocalist like Axl would never have this problem.

Anastasia was easily the best and earned a permanent spot on my phone, as did Not for Me.

  10. Still listening to the album, wanted to wait until I got my nice headphones before I gave it a listen. So far, Mostly positive for me. I agree with LA above, slash really does shine through with epic and ballad songs. For some strange reason he seems to avoid these types, but there's no denying every single one hes apart of just blows me away. The shorter songs arent too bad, but I find myself kinda bored until its "slash time" again. Usually this wasnt the case in GNR due to Duff and Izzy's rhythm section was so great. Slash isnt so hot in this area, but his leads have always been great and still is on here. Also, Myles is a bit, whats the word, tamed? He just doesnt have that massively aggresive and powerful voice Axl had on Appetite. Listen to Youre Crazy especially. That guy was a fuckin hot rod from hell in the vocal department. My favorites are Anastasia, Not for Me, No More Heroes, and Standing in the Sun. Bad Rain was okish, again Slash's leads were great but the rest only so so. Ill post the rest of my review when Im finished listening.
