  1. I picked up Monster a couple of days ago and I'm diggin' it. It didn't blow me away on the first listen like Sonic Boom did but it's grown on me with each listen. I especially dig the track "Wall of Sound." I think Gene's songs are stronger than Paul's this time out.

...but then, I'm a KISS fanboy. If you're not as fanatical as I am, then your mileage may vary.

  2. W.A.S.P. has been one of my favorites for years 'n' years. Their debut album is a Top Ten Favorite of all time for me. I swear I want that thing buried with me when I die.

I've only seen them once, unfortunately, during the Crimson Idol era at a little dump club on the New Jersey shore... but they tore it up (and Johnny Rod gave me a bass pick which I still have!)!!

  3. This Tate Vs. Queensryche mess has been quite entertaining. If nothing else, Tate will finally get to do his boring I-Wish-I-Was-Peter-Gabriel solo stuff on the coffeehouse/wine and cheese circuit and the rest of the band will be able to play the old stuff (y'know, the stuff people really wanna hear) again with a singer who actually likes the material, and who can hit the notes. Everybody wins.

  4. Great band. Especially love Hang Time from '88 and Grave Dancers Union from '92. Haven't checked in with them for a while but I believe they have a new CD coming out soon, if it's not out already.

  5. I still dig the Crue's first two albums (Too Fast For Love and Shout At the Devil) but I was turned off by the sellout Theatre of Pain record (bad enuff that Vince Neil had to kill Hanoi Rocks' drummer, but then the Crue went and stole his wardrobe for the album photos and tour!) so I walked away and haven't been back since.

I fully expect that even though they're twice the Crue's age, KISS will be vaporizing them off the stage every night on their tour together this summer....

  6. Warrior Soul - Salutations from the Ghetto Nation

While listening to this album you should be watching "A Clockwork Orange" with the sound off, drinking grain alcohol straight from the bottle with one hand while making Molotov Cocktails with the other, before going out to blow up some sh*t and beat the crap out of someone.

  7. My fave 90s band would have to be Warrior Soul. I was a borderline fanatic for this band from the first time I heard the Last Decade, Dead Century album. Their 3rd CD, Salutations From the Ghetto Nation, is one of the albums I want buried with me when I die. To this day, I spend a possibly unhealthy amount of time listening to this band.

Aside from Warrior Soul, I liked Saigon Kick, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden a whole lot.

  8. I haven't even heard that yet,where can I find it?

    Here ya go:

I like it. It's got an old-school 70s vibe to it. And geez, could Thayer's playing sound any MORE like Ace Frehley? Damn.

I've heard that Paul Stanley recently had surgery on his vocal cords (which is why the release of the new album was delayed; it was supposed to be out late last year) so hopefully his voice will be in better shape on this tour than he was on the SONIC BOOM tour.

  9. I have had a love/hate relationship with the band. Loved the first era (up until, say, DYNASTY), hated UNMASKED, could take or leave THE ELDER. CREATURES was phenomenal, LICK IT UP was decent. Slept thru the remainder of the no-makeup era till REVENGE, which was their best in many years.

Was disappointed by PSYCHO CIRCUS, in my book it's got four or five great songs and an equal amount of lame filler. (I mean, c'mon, Peter's ballad "I Finally Found My Way" aka "Beth Part II: Electric Boogaloo?" Ugh.) It was a big let down for me personally cuz I'd just seen the original four on the Reunion Tour and they were killin' it, so I was expecting a massive album, not something so lukewarm.

I didn't really like the idea of SONIC BOOM at first cuz till then I'd been totally against the idea of painting Thayer up like Space Ace and Singer as The Cat, but dammit I had to admit, that was a solid record. I had to admit, hearing them playing new stuff "legitimized" the Thayer/Singer lineup for me.

Looking forward to the new MONSTER, if the single is anything to go by then I think we're in for more quality stuff.

  10. I thought they retired? I remember a tour that was promoted as being the last time to ever see Kiss live.

The so-called "Farewell Tour" ended up being the "farewell" for Ace and Peter. Gene and Paul changed their minds and decided to keep the band going.

  11. "Lightning Strikes" was the song that got me into Aerosmith back in the day. I was 12 years old when Rock In A Hard Place was released. At the time I knew nothin' about the band, I didn't know that the wasn't recorded by the "real" Aerosmith lineup, but I didn't care one way or the other, I simply thought that it was a great song, and the rest of the album is pretty sweet too. It's still a sentimental favorite to this day.

  12. I wear whatever's on sale. Right now I'm wearing a pair of beat-to-hell New Balance sneaks that I've had for over a year and which only cost me fifteen bucks. They're starting to look really awful now though so I guess it's time to look for a new pair.

  13. LOL, Best Buy unloaded all of their copies to Dollar Tree, who are in turn trying to unload them for $1 :rofl-lol: :rofl-lol:

    fuck, man...that's really sad.

thing is, Best Buy DID have the exclusive for a while -- but after that year was up, other retailers were allowed to start selling the album (listed under a new ISBN number, probably) so chances are Best Buy had to get rid of all the original stock and sold it to third parties. i bet if you walk in to best buy you'll find the new CD (the same one sold in any other retail music store) at a higher price.

nevertheless, it's sort of depressing to see 'the most anticipated album of all time,' the one we all salivated over for years and years on this forum, being reduced to $1.00. :( i still really dig the record even if it's not perfect.

Yeah, most of the retailer "exclusives" are only good for the first year of release, then it's anything goes. Just recently I got a copy of AC/DC's "Black Ice" (which was originally a Wal-Mart exclusive back in '08) from Hastings..ordered it "used" from their web site, and when it arrived it was still new and sealed in the wrapper... for 1.49. Can't argue with that deal.

  14. It's about time the Dollar Tree sold a semi-decent CD... the only CDs I ever find at the one near my house are leftover boy-band albums and no-name rappers...

Suddenly the Dollar Tree is becoming a CD treasure trove... just picked up an awesome KISS tribute CD there by Hayseed Dixie called "KISS MY GRASS" -- bluegrass/country covers of KISS classics... it's effin' hilarious!!!

  15. Any KISS fans in the house? They're going to be very busy this summer on tour w/Motley Crue, a new single "Hell or Hallelujah," and the new album "Monster" (due in October)... plus the usual assortment of absurdly overpriced merchandise (like a four thousand dollar coffee table book... yes, really. FOUR THOUSAND.)

Get all the poop here: **removed by admin, advertising in wrong section**

  17. Hey folks... it's me, the wanna-be writer guy again... thought some of you might find my latest blog entry interesting.

I've started a new series of entries called "Forgotten Hard Rock Albums" and in my latest piece (on the long-lost New Jersey band Bad Biscut and their 1994 debut, "The American Dream") I have a funny little story involving Steven Adler... the first time I saw Bad Biscut live I also happened to meet Adler, and .. .well, give it a look if you're so inclined. I thought it was funny anyway....

Bad Biscut - THE AMERICAN DREAM and my strange meeting with Steven Adler

Comments are welcomed, good or bad... I'm from New Jersey, I can take it. :D

If you don't totally hate that one, try these other two entries in the series... they're not GN'R related at all but they're fun....

Piledriver - METAL INQUISITION - a Canadian thrash "band" who never really were a "band" at all.

Babylon A.D. - some of you might remember their song "The Kid Goes Wild," which was in "RoboCop 2."

    Thanks for lookin'. Rock on.

  18. I could barely get through the trailer for this movie without bazooka barfing. It looks like an "80s rock" episode of "GLEE" stretched out to a full length feature film.

On the other hand, at least we'll get to see "Dancing With the Stars" hottie Julianne Hough done up in '80s metal rock-chick gear:

Ohhhh, yass. THAT'S the kinda sugar papa likes!!
