  1. Just came across this and surprised I hadn't heard about it. Seems like Slash is no longer being so polite, now that Axl has pretty much killed any hope of a truce. What do you think Marc? Slash being harsh here or lighthearted jab at an old friend?

    https://www.youtube....h?v=N3uqrWNLwGM

Okay this has obviously been established as fake...but I think it'd be hilarious if it was true...hahahahhahahaahahahah

  2. Axl wont dare to go solo because of less $$$, as simple as that.

very sad what he did do to the GN'R name!

You can't really blame Axl for anything, If Slash ended up with the name you would be saying the same thing about Slash. They wanted different things and there was no way that they were going to stay together. You can just as easy blame Slash and Duff for signing over the name. It they hadn't, right now there would be no GNR unless they somehow worked it out. The new GNR is not a bad band, they are different then you might want because they are different than the old GNR. This in not Axl's fault just because he is the only one left from the old band. The New GNR put out a great record and they tour. No matter what , it is a different band. You have to look at it as 2 bands, the old and the New. If anything Kiss is a band that sells it self as the old band but really is a new band. GNR does not. Yes they play old and new songs but thats because Axl was apart of both bands. If Slash was in control of GNR he would still play old songs with whatever new ones the band had recorded. So there is no one to blame if you are not happy with the way things turned out.

Can't blame Axl for anything? With all due gratitude for spending your time doing this, that's quite simply ridiculous.

We can blame Axl for a lot of things, especially 1996-now and trying to do the moral equivalence thing by saying saying Slash or Duff would've kept using the GNR name is purely hypothetical and unlikely imo. Hell, the main reason Slash didn't see signing the name over as a HUGE deal at the time was because he didn't think Axl would have the audacity/stupidity to go on using the name all by himself.

If you want to equally assign blame you could say all the guys were responsible for the original band falling apart in the 1990s. You CAN'T equally assign blame for then proceeding to put the GNR name through the mud and turning it into a decade long joke while associating the famous name with a hyped up album that landed with a dud and will be a punchline for years to come...That's all on Axl and because he personally chose to keep using the name.

    Marc,

I'm assuming this is obviously your wedding? To just spitball a date I'd guess '89 or '90 but have no clue. Anyways, Any cool stories from this about life in general or GNR specifically Slash and Axl attending and how that worked out and what they did? Any other GNR members or associates attend? How was the reception? Congrats 20+ years belated!

  4. Is Argo any good, it looks like it's terrible but reviews havent been as scalding as I would have thought. maybe it's just Bennifer. Gigli wasn't all bad.

Dude, from everything I've heard from family/friends and professional reviewers... Argo is pretty kickass.

  5. I don't think Axl would want me saying anything at all regarding things to do with the old band or the new band. If he did he would be the one saying them and I'm sure that he disagrees with some of it. Slash and Duff don't care they have nothing to hide. All I'm trying to do is help you guys put together the puzzle on some of the things that went wrong from my point of view.

And we thank you. This section is awesome!

Yep! Very cool you've taken the time to do this.

  6. Not sure, but it definitely isn't the overweight dude who constantly is wearing hats.

The hats are really getting annoying imo. Mainly the having them on 99.5% of the time thing.

Why does it bother you so much? How does this affect you life in anyway shape or form?

It doesn't affect my life, just my opinion.

Sorry, didn't realize something had to affect my life to post about it on a music fansite.

  7. Any clue as to why Doug and the tour managers would want Slash and Duff to sign the contract?

It's because Doug became a huge Axl yes man.

Don't kid yourself with this Axl didn't know crap. That may be atleast sorta believable if he hadn't pulled the same crap on Izzy earlier.

  8. Okay, first of all if you go to a rock show or any show and you don't know who the hell is in the band, then you don't fuckin belong there!

I mean, come the hell on. It's been 20 years or more since Slash has been in GNR and you have to live under a rock if you don't know that. Slash has had many bands since then and yes it's true Axl has had many band members come and go since then, but to still think Slash is in GNR, you just have to be plain stupid.

As for the beer gut, where? I don't see one. Yes, Axl isn't as thin as he was in the 80's, but he's not fat.

Has anyone seen Vince Neil lately? Please. No one seems to mind Vince's fat ass trying to run around the stage.

It's a fact of life as you get older you gain weight, then when you get really old you lose it again. That's life! It sucks yes, but at least Axl and many of us have had our hey day and at least Axl is alive and well and still doing what he loves and I for one am damn glad he is!

Wow! Have you not been to many shows? Ive seen Nuguns 5 times and every show had people that didnt know Slash was no longer in the band. In the end they ended up not caring and enjoyed the show.

Beer gut? Hmm well Axl does have somewhat of a beer gut... is he fat? No but hes not in great shape either. I wouldnt take what these writers say so personally. GnR is a nostalgia act nowadays and thats OK. The Vegas shows are over-the-top like Vegas should be.

It's kinda funny considering the conventional wisdom back in the day that Axl was the least partying member of GNR. He's now really the only one who drinks at all and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a drinking or some other kind of substance problem. At least based on his appearance.

  9. Fuck kid rock. He's the biggest fraud in music. Mr. I'm straight out if the trailer but I'm gonna back Romney.

Ya, because Obama had that Trailer Park vote locked up....

That may be the first time in history that trailer park and vote were used in the same sentence.

Fuck kid rock. He's the biggest fraud in music. Mr. I'm straight out if the trailer but I'm gonna back Romney.

So we're hating on people now because they didn't back a failure of a President? Can't say he didn't give him a chance though, I recall seeing a picture of Kid Rock taking his child to a 2008 inauguration party.

Anyways, Kid Rock is quite talented imo if you look beyond the whole "Badass" persona made famous in the late 90s.

In the current Rolling Stone, KR said that he identified with Paul Lyan. That to me is scary because the dude is one of those "I was born rich and can't understand why everyone else wasn't" douche bags. KR also played at Romney events and this is contrary to the everyday guy image KR puts out. So I guess his stance is "black people, good enough to stick my dick in but not to vote for."

Man you really need to get a clue. I'm not gonna sit here and argue policy with you, but Paul Ryan's dad died when he was like 15 and he worked at McDonalds in high school....he wasn't some "rich kid" as you would say. Also Kid Rock's only child is half black so your veiled attempt to racially slander him is kinda disgusting...not to mention I highly doubt somebody that had race issues would grow up with many black friends and start his music career as a rapper...I'd suggest putting down Rollingstone which is a shit rag and get back to reality.

  10. sorry, but Nightrain Rock Am Ring kills any 2010 performances:

Yep, that's the best New GNR performance ever imo. Mainly the 2nd half.

Shame Axl couldn't ever really replicate it on other songs.

  12. Shockingly, this thread has turned into utter ridiculousness. Obviously Axl doesn't hold grudges against anyone and everyone who has any kind of relationship with Slash.

Dude, even Marc Canter has admitted that Axl thinks Slash is "evil."

He has serious mental issues imo. I'm kinda surprised he even met with Duff and played w/ him recently considering he just a few weeks ago blamed Duff, Slash and Stephanie Seymour for his inability to write for years and years and years. THEY WERE MEAN TO HIM!

  13. So you are saying that Axl and Duff get money from Slash's new version of Civil War? That would be kinda ironic.

Yeah anyone who has a share in the ownership of the song would get a cut of that particular song on a release because it's technically a cover. Kinda like how Bob Dylan probably has made quite a bit of money off of GNR because they released a cover of Knocking on Heaven's Door.

  14. How is Slash able to do this? Doesn't he have to ask permission to record and make money off of old guns songs? And I doubt Axl would give him the ok. It's the same as anyone else covering a song isn't it? I know he can play the songs live, but recording them is different. Unless you guys know something I don't I could see a lawsuit in the future over this.

Slash owns the same percentage of the old GNR music as Axl does. Also this performance is live.

I understand that owns the same amount of royalties of the old music, but I thought he couldn't try and make money on that stuff anymore. And isn't that essentially what he is doing? So are you saying that he could essentially rerecord appetite with myles and sell it and Axl can't do anything abou it? I highly doubt that. Even though this performance is live, putting it on an album to sell seems like a different story to me. I don't know the ins and outs of these sort of things, please educate me.

It's not even really royalties as someone like Izzy still gets his cut of that, but Slash, Axl and Duff each co-own all the old GNR stuff. Axl only owns the name by himself. So that means that technically they each would have to agree to put a song in a movie, commercial or whatever.

Any of them could re-record Appetite and release it, Axl supposedly tried, but the key is they would have to rerecord it because they couldn't by themselves just use the old recordings. So you could rerecord it and release it but the other guys would get a significant cut of the income generated, so it'd be kinda pointless.

  16. It matters to the total gross throughout a year. If you played venues that were mostly smaller your chance of a high average gross would be lower as well. I already saw those numbers of Slash's lowest grossing show, how'd u think I knew you selectively picked the lowest grossing concert date? One of Slash's concerts in Sydney this past year had 7,000 in attendance and it grossed over $500,000.

Hopefully Axl's new vision of GNR in the mid nineties was one of equivalent relevance to Motley Crue and himself looking slightly worse than Vince Neil because I'd hate to know he didn't achieve his goals.

  17. Oh and BTW looking at Gross to gauge whether anything is successful or not successful is foolish. Net is what matters.

Slash played a show by me earlier this year that grossed $20,000. No way to know what the net was, but it can't be much and certainly nothing compared to what GNR nets.

Haha, ok...not sure why you would bring Slash up.

BTW though his average concert gross in the past year is about $120,000 and includes quite a few venues with 1,500-2000 capacity like the one in FL that you mentioned, which coincidentally just happened to be the lowest grossing one...

Oh and Motley Crue did a residency at The Joint as well and grossed about $3 million over 12 shows...Which is almost exactly what these GNR numbers would be if 9 more shows had #s like these. At least Axl has relevant company.

  18. It's whatever. Axl has probably the most ant-climatic career I have ever seen. The hype in the early '00s for Chinese was crazy. The mysterious, cryptic nature of GN'R's path has finally come to this: Vegas washout syndrome. Regardless, I hope whoever is going has fun.

Oh and BTW looking at Gross to gauge whether anything is successful or not successful is foolish. Net is what matters.

    • You really can't compare them. They both do things that the other can't do. Both good just different. I know Slash does a very good job with his set and the fact that he is playing sober makes things even better. I haven't seen Axl live in person since 2006 but when I did he was also doing a great job doing what he does. If you like Slash's set better, thats your choice. It also could depend on what you want to see and hear. I think a true fan should enjoy both bands. It's not really a contest on who does a better job. They both are doing the best they can with who they are working with.

Yeah, I agree with you and I obviously wouldn't expect you to say Axl's voice is lacking these days even if you had seen them live within the last 6 years. IMO Axl was better then because he was actually in shape and acted like he still had something to prove, but whatever. To sum it up though..I'll just say unless you're somebody like Steven Tyler, it's easier to age as a kickass guitarist than a lead singer.
