sidenote: I adamantly believe Adler played SOYL. Caram and Axl probably just put samples on all the drums minus the cymbals. And, as we have seen from these other 2 recent releases, made a sterile dry overly compressed drum mix

If it was Frank, no doubt he would have changed some fill to be more his style, but all the filles on SOYL are still Adlers fills

SOYL is 100% Adler, the cymbals and stereo field placement and especially the sound of the ride cymbal are just like all the other Appetite songs and I don't even think there's samples on the drums, they're just mixed differently / more modern / punchier. You can let drums sound totally different by mixing, e.g. you can download Rock Band or Guitar Hero Multitracks of old Purple or Zeppelin songs and make even the oldest recordings sound more modern by remixing them. And in '86/'87 they probably already used similar mics like an engineer would still use today, so it's just a matter of mixing it to modern taste, assuming they/Caram had full access to the multitracks of SOYL.

Just listened to it a couple of times. Pretty good, I think I'll like it more after a few more listens. I really liked the slower section, sounded very UYI ish.

I'm interested to see how they market this (if they market it). I mean, a new single release is a great time for an interview or something.

I love how it transitions from the Cowbell part, which sounds Appetite-y to me, into the slower section, which, as you pointed out, sounds UYI-ish. I never thought that this would happen, but those 2 segments really sound like old school GN'R to me. Amazing how much Slash's Licks and Tone totally transform the song, I just compared the 2000 Demo to the new version part by part, totally different, awesome!

  3. Hi! Due to the unexpected extra spare time caused by the Corona lockdown, I decided to finally realize project I've been thinking about for a while now.

I had some Instrumental songs 'laying around' on my hard drive, one written with a friend, one written by myself, and I finally found a singer who came up with lyrics and recorded killer vocals in, like, 2 days (hey, Axl, I'm lookin' at you!).

I recorded and programmed all of the instruments, mixed and mastered the whole thing and designed the artwork.

We now decided to give it a shot on a German crowdfunding page because we want to release the 2 songs 'Bangkok Nights' and 'Moonlight Princess' on 7 Inch Vinyl. It has only been online for three days or so and so far, we did pretty well.

International shipping is available as well, it's only 10€ for the vinyl record + int'l shipping!

Would be killer if you guys helped making it happen, thank you very much! <3

Agreed - pity the sound quality is so poor on the versions floating about. I take it no-one ‘cleaned it up’ - I know there are a few techy people on here who have done some amazing things with low quality recordings?

I actually did that a couple of years ago. Tried to make it sound more polished, unfortunately there are some Cracks/Pops in it, but it sounds kinda cool. Where should I upload it to? Direct links are not allowed, right?

Well that his 30 years into his career.. He has aged.. Not saying he is the best drummer ever but playing that kind of music is taxing and he still played drums on some on a lot of the best metal songs ever recorded. \m/

I agree on the last part, but other than that... I mean he's only 3 years older than Frank, so this argument is not really valid to me to be honest. On the other hand, I was just about to go on rambling about how other musicians are still on top of their game even 30 years into their career but then I remembered that this is a GN'R forum, so... whatever :D

It doesn't help that aside from Axl, Slash, Duff and Dizzy the rest of the lineup is pretty corny and blahh.  If that wasn't the case it would offset Axl's shortcomings a little more. I do believe Axl is doing the best he can with what he still has left too. For the most part anyway.. Taking care of himself wouldn't hurt his performance.

    Not Frank

Even though I really don't like Frank in the GN'R context, I can guarantee you that he's a hundred times better than Lars. Seriously. I used to be a hardcore Metallica fan (Tattoos and all) and I still kind of am, but I can not listen to any live footage from, say, 2010 on any more, because he's just THAT sloppy.

  7. Hey guys, I hope it's ok to start a new topic, I also posted in the "forum member band" thread but I thought it'd be cool for you guys to leave some comments here in this specific thread if you want to :)

    Here we go:

This is my new band, Vvlva: https://vvlva.bandcamp.com/album/silhouettes

Our new album Silhouettes will be released on Oct 18th. but you can listen to one song on Bandcamp already, it's called Night By Night.

As soon as the album is out, you'll be able to listen to the full album on any streaming platform etc. (or just order the beautiful limited marbled vinyl ;))

It's 70s soaked, Hammond Organ-driven hard rock, I also mixed the new record and I tried blending the Old School vibe with a sort of more modern (not really modern though :D) sound to get the "best of both worlds".

I've been in the band for a year now (I'm the drummer), so I'm not playing drums on the older 2 releases.

Still no decent Shadow because of Axl being completely out of time. What the hell is the problem and why don't they fix it??

Absolutely, he's totally off and it's such a shame that the lead singer of a band that makes like 6 million $ per gig isn't able to re-learn a 100 year old song. I really thought about going to the Mannheim Show on Sunday because of SOYL but this is pure bullshit, it really is awkward to watch.
