  1. What is with the amount of people who credit Izzy as being the main songwriter on AFD and the reason it all sounded so good?

It was WILLIAM AXL ROSE that wrote pretty much every lyric, and it was SAUL SLASH HUDSON who wrote the lead riffs and solos.

Izzy no doubt did a good job on the rhythm sections that drove a lot of Slash's lead sections, but people are greatly exaggerating his overall contribution. He did not write Slash's licks for him, nor did he write most of the lyrics. He was a good contributor in the band, but nothing special.

    Agree/disagree?

  2. Why do people continue hoping for a reunion or listening to this band live? Axl is sounding so bad at the moment it's actually hard to enjoy a concert regardless of who he performs with. GNR is my favorite band but I truly believe it's time to let sleeping dogs lie and remember the band for its greatness in it's prime.

If I went to see GNR and saw this, I would leave the concert for the sake of my ears:

  3. An original lineup reunion will never happen.

If ever in doubt, read this quote by Axl again and think about what it truly means for a reunion:

"So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense."

  4. The old band could eventually get back together. I'm never giving up hope until one of them is dead.

And when they do, I can't wait to see the shitshow this place turns into.

Have you read Axl's hall of fame letter? Read it again and pay attention to this line in particular:

So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense.

If you think in light of those words that he'll just change his mind, you are kidding yourself. I'm sorry, that's the way it is.

  5. An original lineup is never going to happen, believe it.

The current lineup does not make new music, they just replay the songs written by the original lineup (poorly at that).

Axl's voice has gotten so bad (perhaps understandably) that to be fair, you'd be better off listening to Myles Kennedy with Slash.

I appreciate and love this band for what they did until UYI 2, but it's time to move on.

Why do we even bother following anymore?

  6. Appetite for Destruction is my favourite album, but there is one song I genuinely dislike on it.

    Welcome to the Jungle.

The intro and breakdown are great, but they don't make up for the mess that is the rest of the song.

If I could sum up its problem in one sentence: Axl was more concerned about having fun when singing the song rather than focussing on whether the lyrics would actually flow well.

The out of place "shanananana" during the choruses and random moaning noises (that don't fit in like they did in Rocket Queen) are both things Axl probably wanted to do for fun, without realising they don't flow with the rest of the song.

For what it's worth, I love Axl's voice. But the lyrics stil need to flow.

Can someone please explain to me why people love this song so much?

  7. It's better than Sweet Child O' Mine.

Seriously? I find it hard to believe people could think that. I am personally shocked that some dont think SCOM is one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

We've all heard it a million times so I'm sure none of us want to listen to it again, but let's face it, when we first heard it we were amazed.

The interludes on SCOM are perfection. Every single note Slash plays after the two choruses are perfection - so much passion placed in just a few juicy notes on the neck pickup. Vocals are amazing too.

Each to their own I guess.

  8. Probably in my top 3 GNR songs and undoubtedly one of the best hard rock songs of all time.

Paradise City on the other hand, meh.

Paradise is a great but flawed song due to the runaway solo at the end.

I'm not trying to hate, I just don't understand the appeal of Welcome to the Jungle - largely because the lyrics flow poorly to me.

The part where Axl goes in the chorus:

"In the jungle, welcome to the jungle

Watch it bring you to your knnn knne knees, knees"

    It sounds awful to me.

  9. I've seen people dislike Sweet Child (though I never understood why) and even November rain, but I've never seen someone dislike Welcome to the Jungle. Am I the only one who thinks this is the only mediocre song on Appetite For Destruction?

It has an amazing delayed intro, but that's where the enjoyment ends for me. Mediocre verse and chorus riffs, boring solos and most noteably, lyrics feel unstructured and all over the place.

    Anyone agree?

  10. Axl said:

"They did damage to my ability as a writer. To those three it was all crap. It beat me down so much. At the time of the tours, Slash and Duff said: ‘You’re an idiot – you’re a loser.’ I didn’t write for years.”

Did Slash ever deny saying these things about Axl? Just wondering as he was always quick to deny things he believed weren't true, such as visiting Axl's house drunk in an attempt to resolve things.
