    It was in Dayton, OH, second show:

    https://www.a-4-d.com/t1881-1992-01-14-erwin-nutter-center-dayton-usa

    (If you scroll down the thread, there is full audio and transcript of that)

    ----------

    I think the first Dayton show the day before could be one of the 1992 shows I'd like to be released on video. It was probably the latest start ever - the band took the stage around 00:30 and played until around 3:00 a.m.

    Generally, one of the early 1992 shows. Another one is the one in Las Vegas, where Yesterdays from Live Era is from. Or one of the shows in Minneapolis.

    Yeah, I’ve heard the audio when it was on YouTube, but what I meant was how funny would be the band’s reactions to this, like: “oh no, not this again” or “holy shit, this is really going down”

    Btw thanks for correcting me on the venue.

  2. I agree with all suggestions on this post, but there’s a piece of footage to I’d love to see, that’s not even music related:

    The argument on stage between Axl and Slash after Axl cut his hand and misheard Slash saying something to the crowd about him changing clothes, I believe in Dallas (not sure).
    “Punk motherfucker”

    “I’ll kick your ass”

    Would love to see the band’s reactions during that exchange. :lol:

  3. I was surprised by the quality of this book, it looked more like a draft than a finished product, it was quite disappointing since Gilby said that Matt was the one that remembered things more accurately than anyone. I honestly expected more from it.

    Matt spent more time explaining the process of changing the name of one of his girlfriends than detailing the songs and albums he worked on, not even the Neurotic Outsiders which he seemed so proud to have been part of. His timeline was also not consistent and made some stories seem rushed.

    To me some interesting points were:

    He summed up Dizzy's longevity with the band very well: "What other rock n' roll bands are looking for a piano player?" And also painted a good light on him, being a party animal and fucking ten women at a time, not that it actually matters but it was cool that someone other than him would be seen in such "positive" way regarding partying and stuff like that.

    An alleged meeting of the band in '96 in which Axl and Slash had an argument that ended up with Slash quitting the band. Personally, this one seems weird to me since it seemed that the problems of the band were not having everybody in the same room at the same time.

    He made me want a book written by Axl and Izzy, they must have have some great stories.

    It was hilarious and a fun read during this quarantine, however it all must be taken with a grain of salt.

  4. Wow, imagine being called out for having an opinion on a FORUM.
    It is great that they finally released something, but people can’t expect that it will please everybody. No matter what they do, there will always be some kind of criticism, there’s no need to get your panties in a bunch because other people don’t agree with you.

  5. My takeaways:

    - Axl struggles with one of the songs he used to nail effortlessly not so long ago, which is It’s so Easy;

    - Frank is the luckiest guy in rock n roll, got to be the drummer on one of the most anticipated reunions of all time, sucks a lot and is still employed (they should get either Matt or Fitzy to play for them, because for four years straight he has sucked and it kind of takes something away from this whole thing);

    - That being said, the one song he kicks ass is Chinese Democracy, I have yet to see a bad performance of that song from this lineup. They do a great job on this track;

    - They need to find another sound engineer;

    -Cool selection of songs, it was different from the “common place” Jungle/Sweet Child/PC, although the gig should have been any from 2016

    -Good on Fernando for actually doing this. Keep ‘em coming!

  6. I tried to find a quote from someone that back in UYI tour Axl had this idea of releasing the footage and audio of every show immediately after the concerts. Quite visionary to do it in the early 90’s IMO.
    Don’t know if this was actually true, but if it was, what has changed so much in this guy to be in such an antagonist to his fans?

  7. Let’s make an assumption that GNR got to release an album in the early 2000’s, and were making the late night shows, how can you explain to the average joe watching at home that your uber talented guitar player is wearing a bucket on his head and plays fucking nunchucks as part of his solo spot? To me, as much as those lineups were talented, they couldn’t succeed in the public eye due to their randomness, I mean the original band at least had a certain look that made them unique in some sense. Unfortunately, to have some sort of success in music the looks, and charisma to some extent, also play a part on it, and how can someone market a half shaven head and another bucket wearing guitar player? They sure have the chops and could creat even more great music than we’ve already heard, but GNR already had an established image for the public, and it would be too hard for them to even have a chance.
    On another side, there’s whatever happened to Axl that made him miss opportunity after opportunity to make the band relevant and release more material, that could have at least given them a chance before the public eye. It’s sad that an artist of Axl’s caliber has done so little in this amount of time, the guy could be a lot more legendary than he is and instead he chooses to have some fuckheads use one of his masterpieces to write a fucking child’s book, erase his performances from the internet and tarnish any kind of legacy he has.

    PS: who knew that the drunk me had so much to say about nuGNR and possibilities...

    It’s weird he mentioned it here in this way, iirc there was an earlier passage where her describes a conversation around the time of appetite where Axl got some of Adlers %, 15 to him 25% to Axl and the rest 20%.

    Yes, you are right, when they were adjusting the percentages during AFD, Axl didn't agree that Adler should be paid equally and that's why he got Adler's 5%. During UYI it was a different monster because they had to devise a formula to determine who contributed to what in each song.

    I don't mind his snare sound and can't remember one example of him "fucking up the tempo".

    Well, watch the Vegas concert, it has been discussed to death here on other topics.

    But as far as I know, Brain wouldn't want to re-join. In an interview back in 2018, he said he tried to come back in the NA tour in 2006, but realized that wasn't his thing anymore. He even said stuff like "Frank is the perfect fit for GNR, he hits hard and really enjoys being there". He said he sometimes text Frank from time to time, even after the reunion.

    Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if Axl called him: "hey, wanna join the biggest rock event in the last 10 years and get paid a shitload of money?", he'd go: "nah, dude, I rather play some random Ninja Turtle theme type of shit with Buckethead and watch netflix."

    As far as Frank being a perfect fit, guess it's a matter of opinion. Some like him, some hate him and other can't even be bothered by his presence. It's completely fine.

    That's weird, since West Arkeen has a writing credit on It's So Easy and Del James has a credit on Move To The City. Chris Weber has 3 credits (I think) on AFD and Live Like A Suicide. So it's not like outside writers was a new thing on the UYI records...

    Since I couldn't upload the pic from the book, I'll transcribe the text:

    "This was when Axl started getting obsessive about the details of every thing to do with Guns N' Roses, starting with the publishing splits of the songs on Illusion I and II. The days of band members getting a straight 20 percent were long gone because there were so many outside writers this go-round, especially on the old songs that existed before Guns that were now in the equation, such as "Back Off Bitch." We also had to factor in Matt, who wasn't a full fledged member: he hadn't been around during the writing of the songs, though he'd played on all of them. In the end, because of contributors like Paul Huge and West Arkeen and Del James, Axl insisted upon splits that were like 22.75 percent or 32.2 percent per song for us core members. It was mathematically worked out according to who wrote what, which made it easy in the sense that we'd never have any thing to fight over, but at the same time, it was pored over and complicated things to a corporate degree."

    Slash's bio - p. 319.

    That’s the quote from his book.

  12. Axl - Coma and Estranged lyrics (I love most of his work, but those two are the ones that I connect more emotionally) / Jungle

    Slash - His work on Estranged / but also most of the energy of the band live especially these days go through him.

    Izzy - 14 years (those lyrics are fucking gold) / Pretty Tied Up

    Duff - It’s so Easy

    Steven - the groove on Rocket Queen and Mr. Brownstone

    Matt - Locomotive, but also giving a great energy live, you can see he was really into the shows.

    Robin - Better / TWAT

    Tommy - Goin’ Down

    NuGuns in general - Chinese Democracy (the song)

    Buckethead/Bumblefoot/Pitman - getting the fuck out, Ashba as stupid as he was, at least he was a fan of the old band.

    What outside writers? I don’t recall that in Slash’s book. Plenty of outside interferences at the time but aside from that.......

    If I remember correctly, it was a section where he talks about the writing and recording process, then he talks about songs written by Del James, West Arkeen and how the royalties dynamics had changed. Something along those lines...

  14. Some thoughts:

    Is it possible that Slash “screwing” Matt regarding royalties, has anything to do with Slash’s complaints on his book regarding having outside writers on UYI? Don’t remember the exact quote...

    After having played in so many projects and even having Slash’s back on an argument that cost him his job, in Matt’s mind he thought there would be some kind of consideration for him when the reunion happened and maybe that generated that much thrashing on his book?

    What do you guys think?

    My guess is that Matt isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and even though for some type of situation that’s kind of cool, the SAD trio (Big 3 is too cringe of a name) wouldn’t want their employees talking back to them of telling them what they should do. Money and abilities aren’t the driving factor to keep him out, his mouth is. My 2 cents.

    For all my current criticisms of this band, Frank is not one of them. Not that I want to turn this into a Frank thread, but seriously, am I the only person besides the ginger who likes the guy?

    I’m sure that Frank must be a nice guy to hang out with, keeps it to himself and that’s probably why Axl keeps him around. But his awful snare sound (that’s more of my take, don’t remember seeing anyone complaining about this) and his take on the songs like adding unnecessary fills on the classics and fucking up the tempo, are the reasons he gets so much hate.
    In my opinion, if they didn’t want Matt taking part, they should’ve asked Brain to join.

     Can that have influence on eversame setlist, aside from Ax's inability to sing a lot of catalogue in 2020?  Maybe. Who knows.

    I believe that the issue with the setlist would be more of a matter of not wanting to play songs easily relatable to Slash (pre reunion days), laziness and lack of vocal capability (2011 - currently).
