People like you are the reason Rose is able to sound absolutely atrocious and get away with it.

No... he's able to get away with it because he is regarded as one of the greatest rock frontmen in music history. He could continue to tour for the rest of his life replacing singing with fart noises and he would still get people to show up and pay exorbitant prices to hear it. The type of people who routinely show up to live concerts tend to be a lot less judgmental when it comes to the quality of the live performances; they simply enjoy the atmosphere and the fact that they get to see their favorite bands play some of their favorite songs. At this point I honestly don't think I'd pay $5 to attend a GNR concert, but I've got no resentment for people who still enjoy live GNR.

Seriously, get over it and let us enjoy THIS.

I haven't even listened to any clip from the first two shows yet so I'd like to think I'm an unbiased judge here, so how exactly are people who are disappointed with Axl's vocal performance preventing you from enjoying the shows? They're of the opinion that it was poor, but you think it was great, so the opinions differing from yours shouldn't be able to affect your enjoyment level. This is a forum where everyone should be free to express their opinions on GNR related matters, even if those opinions aren't positive.

Also, lumping together the people who are disappointed with the performances with the select amount of people who criticize Axl's fashion choices is incredibly lazy and unjustified.

  3. Obviously this "Better" comparison is ridiculous, but it is incredibly hard to deny that GNR didn't rip off a German electronic artist for a few sounds on "Riad N' the Bedouins". Irvin Azoff claimed that the sounds were legally obtained by a member of the album's production team so we don't really know if Axl and his fellow composers were aware where the original sounds came from.

I don't know about taking advice or vocal lessons from anyone on here but Axl has read these boards in the past... and has even done interviews on this forum.

Maybe, but the idea that Axl changed up his vocal delivery because of what a few random nobodies on the internet said is pretty laughable. That said, I found that to be the best SCOM performance vocally in a very long time. It sounded very natural as opposed to what he had been doing for the past decade of using falsetto in an attempt to emulate his AFD era voice.

I think Axl just likes challenging himself. He could make all the songs sound appealing but I think he gets bored...which to us is odd bc we think he's bored when he sings bad, but again I think it's about him not wanting to be a one dimensional singer

    This is wishful insanity.

The guy is in his mid-50s attempting to perform vocals that pretty much no one else on Earth could pull off in their prime, including the 27 year old version of Axl at times. If a magical genie offered him back his Appetite era voice there's no chance in hell that he wouldn't take it and use it on a nightly basis. He's not opting to sing in that lazy falsetto voice (or chest with head resonance according to Towelie) as a stylistic choice; it's just way easier for him to do. Maybe if a show was a one song long rendition of Paradise City he might be able to reach back and blow out his voice to make it sound reminiscent of the UYI years, but apart from that, it's all about conservation.

Michael Jordan got cut from his freshman or sophomore basketball team in high school.  He turned out OK don't ya think?

That story has been twisted to promote the "Never give up" attitude. What actually happened was that Jordan was a sophomore who got cut from the Varsity team. That's it. Even if it was a mistake, it's hard to fault a coach for not selecting a kid who was a couple of years younger than the rest of the team and still had some growing to do.

Sounds amazing and I HOPE he brings this energy back to GnR. Imagine hearing this quality on Gnr songs, YCBM, NV, Sweet Child (how is possible that he sucks that hard on his own song and nails these?).

Normally I prefer to just enjoy the shows and not get into the debates about Axl's vocals, but it boggles my mind that some people are unable to realize that the GNR songs Axl struggles with (PC, SCOM, YCBM) were originally sung in a mid-range voice and tone that he literally does not have anymore. He uses the falsetto "mickey" voice on those songs because it's the closest he can get to emulating that sound. For the most part he's still awesome on songs like Nightrain that require gravelly high notes throughout and that's why he's able to do such a magnificent job on most of the AC/DC songs; the vocals are of a similar style. The only reason I even bring this up is because I think it's unfair that people are making comments accusing him of phoning it in during the GNR concerts.

To be able to sing the way he does at 54 years of age is simply remarkable. Enjoy it while you can.

  8. To me it's clear that regardless of the reason he has been kept out of the shows thus far, the possibility of him returning is still there under the condition that he keeps his mouth shut until that day comes. Adler wouldn't shut up about a potential Guns N' Roses reunion for over a decade. If the band definitively told him he wasn't going to be participating at all he would be ranting and raving all over the place.

Glad to hear it was another great show I'll need to watch some videos later on. I'm just going to echo the posts regarding The Seeker it's a good song but they should really be playing one of their own songs. I think it should be Pretty Tied Up or Don't Damn Me if it was to be a deep cut. Hopefully a few more alternatives get added for the stadium shows ( or preferably a couple of new songs :P)

They play Seeker because it's a song that Axl can sing without needing to strain his vocals at all. It's basically a break without actually taking a break. That's my take on it anyway.
