It has drive, gradation, balls, backstory… the rant, the guitar, the atmosphere. One of the most GNR-defining songs from that era, even if it was basically just a one-off thing that was not to ever be played live.
This is the song that got me into GnR. I wasn't necessarily into rock or metal back then and I was still to find my 'thing', but a girl at school gave me a bootleg cassette of UYI2 and said I had to listen to it. I vividly remember lying in bed, reading a book, listening to the album on my Walkman not really paying attention to the music and then GITR came on... I was like WTF is that??
From that moment forward, I was hooked.

In some cases, they are choosing even bigger venues (like Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium compared to the smaller venue they played in 2017). Australia's big stadiums can only have few select performances per year, which makes this interesting. Obviously there are vacancies because there is no touring, but to play stadiums like Suncorp means they think they can draw the crowd, whether or not that be with new music or simply being the first big band to play after the pandemic.
I don't know, but is there a chance that they are booking bigger stadiums because capacity may be limited due to distancing restrictions... For example, booking an 80,000 but only putting 50,000 on sale?

Why do people think Axl hasn’t anything to write about.
The obvious choice is the reunion and all the emotional trip he sure has gone through.
But he also has a life we don’t know about.
What do other bands write about??? Come on guys, theres plenty of themes.
Time will tell
Why does he need anything to write about at all?
I could write and record a song tomorrow that has no meaning. Just bang some words down on a page and people will try to interpret them forever.
As long as there's good melody and instrumental, people really haven't a clue what a song means and probably couldn't care less.
There's millions of songs out there that don't have any or much meaning from a personal experience point of view.
However, is it a paradox that if you purposefully write a song with no meaning or subject matter, that it automatically does create just that??? Lol

I stopped at 4 different Targets in my area after work today. The first one had two in the back, had to ask the dude to get them for me. Second had two in the back, but gave me some BS of not being able to find them, and to check back in a few days. Pricks. 3rd Target had two in the back, I bought those. The guy working electronics called it "Appetite for Destiny" Haha 4th Target I checked had one left, so I was able to acquire 5 in less than 2 hours. Also grabbed some of the cool Jurassic Park toys. I probably have way too much time and money. Somebody help me.
I'm going to check another Target Sunday afternoon.
Why?

Presale for Manchester a joke. They probably had 2 tickets available!!!
-
Just logging in for the presale in Manchester and the venue plan is indicating it all-seater???
-
That's awesome, thanks. Just the kind of thing I was looking for.
And £6 would be much needed for a 14 year old - it'd certainly buy him a new set of strings!!

Hi all
Has anyone any experience in releasing a commercially available single.
I'm looking for the cheapest possible way to get a song on Amazon, Spotify etc.
My 14 year old is getting into guitar in a big way (just saved up to by his first Gibson!) and we've done a couple of acoustic gigs together.
He's just taken Music as one of his year 10 options and has been told that performance will be a key part of the syllabus.
I'd like to support him in writing and recording a song, but then thought it would be cool if he could release it as an official single (just because then he can always say he has!!)
I've seen a couple of websites that do this but you need to pay a monthly fee.
Making money isn't a motive at all, but does anyone know if there are any sites where you can just pay a one off reasonable fee to have a song published?
-
Also available from Slash's website is registration for presale for specifically UK shows. (I assume this changes depending on what country you are in)

So, did anyone get chance to exchange a few words with either Axl or Duff on their night out?

Been dreading watching this all day after reading the comments but I've just managed to catch up and thought that Jungle pretty awesome.
I can totally understand the comments about Axl's voice, but I don't think that this should be one of those occasions.
These are 50 odd year old blokes doing what they were doing in their 20s - I hope I have as much energy when I get to that age. What other bands that were around in the 80s/90s are still playing their trade at the same level and intensity as back then - and which singers sound exactly the same?
And as much as I loved the rants, I really do smile when I see Axl obviously enjoying himself. To say that he was phoning this in is just BS
I think the 80,000 folk who were all bouncing along to this tell the tale

All these complaints, yet Kerrang called it one of the greatest Donington sets ever!

The playback of late 80s concerts on a big screen is interesting

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned already, but I guess all the leaks have taken focus away from anything else.
According to Kerrang, there's an event in Camden this weekend to coincide with the release of the box set.

I can't find any other details online about it other than this Kerrang article.
Interesting that it's in Camden where one of the first billboards were spotted.

It'd be great if Slither becomes a staple and Matt guests on it a a couple of shows.

As much as I am happy that the band are actually doing something, I really can't get excited over this because I know I'm not going to be able to afford it (if it retails at the figure quoted).
However, part of me thinks that there is more to it than just a box set.
There's an awful lot of hype around it (even my son has come home from school and said "have you heard about GnR" - all the kids are talking about it in the playground - and this is the UK!!) for it to be a limited edition box set that most people either can't afford or won't be interested in - it seems a bit off to me and very 'niche' to throw an unprecedented marketing campaign at.
What I am excited about is this unknown (but I know I'll probably be disappointed!)

In the same era he was popular over here, the Benny Hill show used to be broadcast. Neither me nor anybody I knew ever got that humor. Possibly just a British vs USA humor disconnect.
His old stuff isn't funny to me NOW but back in the 80's I found it funny.
Yeah, I get that. And I bet that I would have found him funny back then, too.
It's amazing how age can mellow your racist, sexist, misogynist views!!

As someone from the UK, I hadn't heard of him until about 3 months ago when I stumbled across the show 'Dice'.
Since then I've downloaded the full box set and think it's hilarious. However, that also led onto me downloading one of his stand-up shows and we had to turn it off it was that bad - like a US version of Chubby Brown

Re the question of 'how'?
I'm in a similar position - not rolling in money, married with a teenage son, can just about afford one or two meals out a month etc
However, I have £25 come out of my wage a month to go into a separate account. This is my 'boys fun' account. That can range from paying for large concerts such as these, to a weekend away.
It soon adds up and I don't miss it on a monthly basis

This was my first time seeing GnR despite being a massive fan since 1991/2.
I took along my girlfriend (now my wife) who was not into rock music at all (think Osmond's, Wham, [insert cheesy pop here]).
When we arrived, Slipknot were playing and then we had Offspring, Prodigy etc. When GnR were mega-late, she looked at me as if to say "what the fuck have you brought me to" haha.
During the curfew arguement, I remember thinking "here we go!", particularly when Axl said something along the lines of "now, I'm not condoning a riot..."
Great show though, the opening riff to jungle sent a shiver down my spine.

It’s honestly a kick in the teeth with such high ticket prices
Serious question (and not trying to flame), but why is it a kick in the teeth?
Assuming that folk paid such high ticket prices to see GnR, wouldn't an early start that allows them to play over three hours be seen as a bonus??

Interview aside, I love the fact that Terrorvision are mentioned! In my view, the best band to come out of Britain in the 90s (and still a great live band!)

Hi. Long time lurker, VERY infrequent poster.
I just thought I'd weigh into this topic based on a conversation I've just had with a friend.
He's not a GnR fan but had read all of the reviews regarding Saturday's performance and Axl's voice. So, he decided to listen to the concert on BBC Sounds just to see how bad it was and he really can't see what the fuss is about. In his words "they sound like Guns n Roses... Nothing wrong with it... It's the most I've enjoyed them".
Now, I know that the band are a lot older and Axl isn't 27 anymore, so I watched on Saturday expecting the worst. However, it wasn't as bad as I thought although there were periods where I did cringe.
But, on my lunch hour, I decided to listen to the show on the BBC Sounds app (without the video), and I have to say, he is 100% correct - it does sound like GnR. Granted, I've only got up to PTU, but honestly, if someone had told me it was from the UYI tour, I would potentially have believed them. I've certainly got bootlegs from the 90s where they sound a lot worse.
I don't really know what to conclude from that other than by watching old men, is our brain being told that they must sound like old men?? 🤣
I've yet to listen to some of the more challenging songs, so I'll reserve total judgement until I have, but I am certainly surprised how good the audio sounds so far.
Also, with regards to the baiting Axl has got over his vocals, I caught a few sets over the weekend and neither Elton, Alex Turner, Dave Grohl, Debbie Harry, James Dean Bradfield, Ian Brodie, Billy Idol (yada yada yada) sound like they did when they were 25 but none are getting the excessive amount of flack that Axl does.
Unfortunately, I feel it will always be thus.
