It's funny - everyone around me sits down any time a CD song comes up, then stands for an AfD or UyI song.

Negative. Signs all over saying 3" lens or less.

We couldn't understand a word Axl was saying when talking to the crowd...but that stuff happens in stadiums, especially ones with roofs.
Agreed. His level when talking was low, plus they still had whatever effects turned on when he said a word or phrase in between (reverb, etc.).

For those of us that were ACTUALLY at the show, we all say the same things. It was a fucking amazing concert. Was Axl (album) quality perfect? No. Was he still fucking great? Yes. Did he give it all he had? Yes. Is he somehow "trying" harder in AC/DC? No. He did not hold anything back, not from what I could see. I wasn't as close as ZOSO, but I was still pretty damn close. He was in a great, yes GREAT mood all night, cracking jokes, smiling, just plain having a good time. Did I notice 2 or 3 times where I thought "those vocals weren't amazing?" sure, but that was only a couple of tumes, most of the time I was blown away by how he sounded. He sounded really, really fucking good everybody.
I had family at this show (aunt and uncle). I had some friends also at this show (not counting my peeps from the forum). And seriously EVERYBODY is saying the same thing "best concert ever." My aunt and uncle in particular are by NO means Axl loyalists. They would say he sucked if they thought he sucked. But they keep posting pics and sending me texts about how awesome the show was. It had THAT kind of effect on everybody that went. We all walked away feeling like we just witnessed magic. The likes of which NO other band on the planet can match.
+1
The only small negative I'd add to that description is Axl had practically no interaction with the crowd between songs. The songs came one after another like machine gun blasts for 2 hours w/o any dialog between. For people like @ZoSoRose that were in the pit and could see Axl's face and gestures on stage, that may have offset Axl's general lack of vocal charisma/rapport with the larger crowd between songs. I was in the $150 seats - stage right, 3 sections back from stage, 4th row - and I couldn't see his facial expressions or other gestures very well unless he was up on the HD boards (which were very good BTW). I think that's one of the downsides of these arena tours -- even the good seats are pretty far from the stage, unlike many outdoor festivals. After seeing how well behaved the pit was, I kinda wished I'd have grabbed tickets down there.

I had no complaints. I've been to much louder concerts, but didn't find myself wishing it was louder. From an audio mix perspective, I found the drum level to be too high, Slash's guitar about right (maybe a shy quiet), and Axl's voice a little too low when he sang/talked (fine when shouting).... but that's just my opinion.

They had a ton of Detroit shirts in the club level after the show
Is Club level the upper level? I literally walked the entire circumference (ground level) of the stadium! I was looking for style #14 from the pic posted on the previous page of the merch stand.
I'm actually hoping to see some Detroit shirts get posted on the website for sale.

Hey Guys - I'm driving over from Detroit next weekend to see the Soldier Field show and thought I'd post my mis-step from the Detroit show here as a reminder for you guys...
QuoteA forewarning for fellow forum members attending future shows that I haven't seen posted in this thread yet. The damn city specific tour t shirts were sold out (L, XL, XXL) before AiC even started their set. And Yes, all 3(?) designs! I wanted a Detroit skull & top hat tour shirt -- all they had left by the time AiC took the stage were S & M sizes (and we wasted prolly 25 minutes waiting in line at the main merch stand). So, word to the wise -- if you want a city-specific tour shirt, plan on getting there very early before the show, or even better yet, the day before and buy it from the trailer parked outside. This is probably my only disappointment of the night... and I walked the entire concourse hitting every merch stand trying to find the shirt -- no dice.

As a ~30 year GnR fan that never had a chance to see the band play live, last night's show was pretty kick ass & I'm very happy/grateful that they put their past behind them & moved on with life. As Paradise closed the show and I was walking out of the building, I had a chat with my friend about just how epic this damn show was --- Slash absolutely tearing it up - every solo was record album 'spot on', Axl sounding almost as good as old Axl, seeing ~45k Detroit fans rocking w/ a ton of energy (yet not getting out of control) for 2+ hours of the show, etc.. Then it hit me -- it's kinda sad that GnR could have been doing this for last 20+ years... and all of the experiences & other stuff that could have been had, but were lost in time.
I think the previous posts from fellow Detroit show-goers already hit the nail on the head, so I'll keep my summary short. In one word - awesome! Slash was f'n epic - shredding it up and not missing a single note. Axl's voice was better than I expected. He looked a little winded during Easy (opener), but was in full stride & kicked ass from that point through ~ the 75% mark of the show. Personally, I think he faded a bit for last 25% - still good, but not as great as he started. Some of the slower songs like NR where he had to sing (vs shouting), I thought his voice just wasn't what it should be... but not a big deal, still good. Disappointing that Patience was skipped, a few too many CD songs my old schoolness, Seeker was a snooze, etc. But all in all, I'd give the show a solid A grade. Lastly, and I don't know if this is typical Axl/GnR, but I also found it very strange, almost awkward, how they teared through song after song non-stop with almost NO commentary from Axl in-between. If he said anything, it was a single word or phrase. No "hey, it's great to be in Detroit... blah blah blah". No stories or talking between songs. I think the only time he said more than 2-3 sentences outside of a song was when he introduced each band member! And the the whole 'All food in Detroit is fried. I'd start taxing vegetable oil.' rant was just weird. People in the rows of seats around me were all looking at each other like WTF is he talking about?!?! I still have no clue what he's talking about, or whether he actually spent time here... unless that was some inner city race crack. Regardless....
