Yeah I always wondered if Izzy and Slash ever sat down with Axl to teach him to play. Would have been a good bonding thing too. But Axl had his own guitar teacher, so I figure Slash and Izzy didn't spend all that much time teaching him (if they ever did at all).

I found these quotes on Axl's guitar playing in this thread. Sounds like he was pretty into it in the mid to late '90s. Guess he gave up.

In reference to who had replaced Gilby, Matt Sorum said: "Right now, [Axl]'s playing guitar and it's like he plays that instrument for ten years." (Matt, 09/23/96)

"For the last couple of years, [Axl] started to go, 'Okay, I'm going to play guitar and actually learn what these notes are.' It's an innocent guitar, not unlike Izzy (Stradlin, ex-GN'R guitarist) was, but Axl's got a lot more musically than Izzy ever did.'" (Duff, Addicted to Noise, 08/30/96)

"Axl is rhythm guitar on his own songs for the time being." (Slash chat, 07/30/96)

"[Axl's guitar playing] tripped me out when I first came back,' Slash says. 'I figured 'Okay, that's where his focus has been. I haven't really talked to him about it, to tell the truth. I guess he's just been sitting at home, figuring out chords or something. Maybe he's been taking lessons." (Slash, Total Guitar, 01/97)

Axl was throwing himself and Guns into the studio at this time, but he was unable to come up with any ideas. Of Axl's guitar setup, [Dave] Abbruzzese recalls, "You could hunt buffalo with his rig. It had a lot of lights, a lot of blinking lights, a lot of things that you stepped on. It sounded like a freight train that was somehow playable." (Rolling Stone, 05/11/00)

doesn't Axl collect crucifixes? maybe not anymore, but he often wears one. I'd get him a nice carved one from some small village or old antique. I think the thanking is also overdone, I'd probably try to steer the subject to his pets or something (well common ground for myself) and I'd really like to know more about these wolves he mentioned. I know that moment is never going to happen for me but I have been thinking about that hypothetical conversation a lot lately. I'd love for a forum member here to get a chance (and we could live vicariously through them).

Hey, didn't you run into Duff on Avenue Rd? Never say never.

There was a cute moment in the Toronto show, I think it was during KOHD where he was doing a turkey-neck type of bob to the beat..everyone around me was laughing..I can't find it though! It's great to see him acting like that, the one where he fakes falling again is priceless..this is all so good for the soul.

YES! I was there, too, and that was definitely a highlight... hoping for a gif!

actually when i was in line it was all the way up to the aquarium and then some rogers tsaff said ok look you can go in from any gate and the ones at 14 etc are low so if you guys want you can move there and tahts how a lot of us at that time got int

Cool. They weren't doing that later in the night, that's for sure! Some women in line told me they had tried to get in at another gate and were instructed to line up at the gate listed on their ticket.

    wow
hehe i found the booming guns at the start funny, also sometimes the guns changed to uzi and like an automatic, i kid you not.
The line up at gate 5 wow wtf really how did that happen anywho got in just as BIlly Talent was playing Falling leaves (which is the only song of thiers i know so i was happy)
GNR was awesome truly slash is wow, i did not know much about the other guitarist Fortus, but then i started listening to his solos and hey wow too. (slash is slash though eh)
the mix was good could hear the piano when needed.
totallly loved estranged, all the old stuff of the CD album i guess i liked CD and Sorry (cause of the solo)
tried to meet guys at loose moose but it was super corwded at 6pm and i could not know who was who. only managed to meet one person in my row with his family from this forum.
    oh my phone died lol

Agreed, awesome show -- but gate 5 was absolute madness. Husband and I arrived around 8:50, naively thinking that it would be a pretty quick process to get in. After standing around for 20 minutes in a line that wasn't moving and watching 9:25 creep ever closer, I ran over to gate 6 and managed to find a short line at the very far side to ease our way into. No idea why the Rogers Centre didn't have a few staff with loudspeakers telling everyone where to line up. I'm sure some of the folks we left behind at gate 5 missed at least the first few songs, even with Guns starting late around 9:50 (probably to accommodate all the overflow outside).

  6. Been lurking here for about a month. Longtime casual fan who's just getting into the band hardcore with the reunion resurgence. I'm loving this thread -- I've learned so much!

In perusing the many photos you've all shared, it seems to me that the changes in Axl's nose are fairly apparent ... at least in some photos. The tip appears to have been refined, and his nostrils are more flared.

    Looks obvious here:

But then I'm not so sure here:

What are your thoughts on this topic? Don't think it's been covered here yet (hope it's not somehow taboo...).

Maybe too honest. "Four songs in, during "Welcome to the Jungle," as Rose moaned “Feel my, my, my, my serpentine,” his paunch made his slithering sidestep look less snakelike and more like the desperately seductive squirm of a mature stripper."
