  1. I just saw Pearl Jam last week. They played songs that they have only played 6 times since Mother Love Bone broke up, half of Ten, half of the new album, and tons of classics. Since 1994, GNR have played essentially the same setlist at every show (all what, 20-some of them?). Pearl Jam tour every year, never cancel, put on a fantastic show, let you buy a soundboard recording of the show within 48 hours of the show ending, have a website that fills fans in on the band's inner workings, release new material on a reliable pace, and continue to produce quality albums (the new album is possibly their best since Vs, although Vs is a hard album to top).
  2. Rocker Axl Rose sues Beverly Hills car dealership

    Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - It's not Gun N' Roses but cars and cash that have rocker Axl Rose suing a Beverly Hills auto dealership.

The suit, filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims the dealership failed to deliver two luxury cars after receiving $20,000 in deposits and also failed to give the Guns N' Roses frontman any money after selling his Ferrari.

Rose contends that Beverly Hills Classic Cars took his deposits but violated oral agreements to get him a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo and a 2005 Porsche GT3.

The suit also contends the dealer sold his consigned 1999 Ferrari Marinello but never paid him a promised $135,000 of the proceeds.

After-hours calls to the dealer and its owner were not immediately returned Thursday night.

  3. 2. Eddie Vedder, although copied very much so, is not all that great of a singer, others during his time (especially Layne Staley) were much better.

perhaps others of his time were "better," but that doesn't mean eddie vedder still isn't a great singer. i personally prefer the sound of eddie's voice over layne's voice. and while songs like "blood" or "spin the black circle" aren't necessarily sung in the traditional since of the word, i think the raw intensity and emotion of eddie's voice is hard for many to imitate. plus, eddie vedder still sounds good today when singing live in my opinion.

    4. Besides Ten, they are fairly inconsistent, VS., definitely a fan favorite, has a few too many weak or underwritten tracks (Indifference, Blood). I think those who credit them as a great album rock band are wrong, to stay with VS., "Daughter" is a better song than anything else on that album, same goes for Ten, where "Alive", "Even Flow", "Black", and "Jeremy" aren't nearly matched on the rest of the album. Yes, there are many great songs on Ten, but look at STP's debut, weren't "Plush", "Sex Type Thing", "Dead and Bloated", "Wicked Garden", and "Creep" great songs too? Yet Ten is credited as a great album when STP's M.O. is that they can only produce singles. STP may not have made great complete albums, but neither did PJ.

ten is the pearl jam album i listen to the least and is thus my least favorite. but it was the album that got me into the band when i was 10. i just like the later albums more. vitalogy would be my favorite.

    5. Those who cite their longevity as a factor that makes them great are wrong, they may still be around, but they haven't been all that popular since the mid-90's.
I saw a poll somewhere placing them as the #1 american rock band of all time!

I saw the poll too and know it was done within the last 6 month's. :P Although i agree, they perhaps are not deserving of the #1 spot, they are still popular apparently.

All the arguments you make do make sense and i see where you're coming from. nevertheless, i like the band's songs, live shows, albums (a lot of work goes into the packaging too), and politics.
