  1. While I don't doubt that some of the things said about Axl over the years are true. There's no doubt in my mind that some people play on the fact that they know he won't respond and allow them to say what they want (true or not) and allow them to grab headlines (and forum topics).

Why Tracii Guns still gets mentioned here is beyond me. He leant his name to the band, that's about it.

  2. The studio version is awesome, but I think the sheer monstrosity and power of the song was lost each time it was played live.

There are so many under rated songs on the UYI albums - but I think that's inevitable due to the sheer volume of material on the two records.

  3. I think it was always planned to be released, regardless of the quality of the show. While other shows were recorded, they weren't recorded with the intention of being released. There would be additional cameras, for instance. And also, the setlist would have received additional attention.

  4. Guns N’ Roses concert review

    Birmingham LG Arena

In rock circles the lead singer of Guns N’ Roses if often known as “the late Axl Rose”.

Indeed there were even signs around the NEC last night warning fans “It is possible that the concert may run late this evening.”

Click the picture on the right to start the photo gallery

True to form, Rose was up to his usual tricks, an hour behind schedule by the time the band finally hit the stage at 10pm – some good-natured booing having started 30 minutes earlier.

Whether you accept this current line-up as Guns N’ Roses or prefer to think of it as “The Axl Rose Band” – the singer being the only original member – there’s no doubting they know how to put on a spectacle.

Giant screens, a huge stage with ramps for the band to move around, pyrotechnics and unbelievably loud explosions were all put to full effect as Rose’s trademark whining wail cut through the wall of sound produced by no fewer than three guitarists.

The two-hour-plus set was divided between GnR classics like Welcome To the Jungle and Sweet Child o’ Mine, covers including Live And Let Die, Knocking on Heaven’s Door, AC/DC’s Whole Lotta Rosie and even Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 as well as numbers from the band’s 2008 album Chinese Democracy.

Letting all the guitarists and a keyboard player each have an extended solo spot was maybe not the best idea, although that did allow Rose to race off to change his costume many times over.

But Rose’s own piano introduction to November Rain, which took in Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Someone Saved My Life Tonight, was a thing of grandeur.

Many fans had already left the arena as the midnight hour passed and the band launched into their final number of the night, Paradise City.

Axl Rose may have been late but most of those who stayed seemed happy to hail him as great.

Rocker Axl Rose has spoken out about his disappointing festival weekend, insisting his experience of headlining the Reading and Leeds concerts was "no fun".

The Guns N' Roses frontman staged an online war of words with festivals boss Melvin Benn after the band's sets were cut short because they failed to observe a curfew. In a post on Twitlonger.com, Rose writes, "Don't know what it is with us or these last two shows. Takes the fun out it for everyone - fans, band and crew alike, but whatever.

"So you know, we allegedly had a deal in place pre-show with the city at least at Leeds to do a bit longer performance that was either miscommunication, someone wasn't informed, changed their mind, didn't care or was a con.

"Regardless, the nonsense just seems so unnecessary but without real management or industry presence is unfortunately beyond our control. We hope the fans feel they got at least what they could from us under the circumstances as for us all things considered that's the main thing. The rest is filler.

"Peace, thanks for understanding and what we did manage to get done out there was a blast! The crowds and fans were amazingAnd in our opinion (not that apparently it means much) you deserved better Thanks again!!"

Organisers of the festivals have maintained Guns N' Roses started its Reading festival performance more than an hour later than scheduled; the band was given an extra 30 minutes to play.

A statement from the festival bosses reads, "Guns N' Roses wanted to extend the new agreed curfew but were prevented from doing so in order to comply with the entertainment licence issued by Reading Council."

But the band has accused the festival promoters of having "a personal grudge" with them, stemming from eight years ago when the band last played the Leeds festival.

In a tweet on Monday, guitarist Richard Fortus wrote, "I don't think there is another band out right now that has the balls to do what we did last night. Axl insists on doing things his way and not playing by the f**king rules. You can love him or hate him for it, but the fact of the matter is... he's the real f**king deal... Deal with it or not, but it won't ever change."

Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose claimed his "war" with Reading and Leeds' bosses "wasn't over yet" as they headlined the final night of this year's festival. The singer directed a string of expletives at organisers as his group ran over their allotted performance for the second time.

They came on stage 30 minutes late after being an hour late at Reading.

They played half an hour over their time before being told to stop.

Afterwards festival boss Melvin Benn said he would book the band again but "wasn't sure they'd play for me".

Up until the final half an hour Guns N' Roses' set had been largely straightforward with a show which included songs like Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child o' Mine and November Rain.

They were due to finish at 2300 [bST] but continued to play. At 2320 they left the stage and returned for a one song encore of Paradise City and then began criticising organisers.

Speaking to Newsbeat after the band came off stage festival boss Melvin Benn said: "You have to put on a show and every band is focussed on only their aspect of what a festival is - that a band comes off unhappy is something I'll have to live with."

He described the booking of the band for the bank holiday weekender as a "good decision for the festival" adding that it had "paid great dividends".

The scenes followed their appearance at Reading festival on Friday where the band had their set cut short by organisers after breaking a newly-extended curfew.

They protested by continuing to play without amplification with Axl Rose singing along through a megaphone.

Foals say Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose should respect his fans more

In between their performances Axl Rose had demanded the bosses of Reading and Leeds festival say sorry to fans at Reading for cutting their set short.

Speaking on Tweeter he said: "At the very least the fans deserve an apology from those responsible for the nonsense."

Later he added: "Don't know what it is w/us or these last 2 shows. Takes the fun out it 4 everyone fans, band n' crew alike but whatever."

Meanwhile, touring guitarist with the band DJ Ashba described organisers as "cocky" and "money grabbing".

It's the latest in a prolonged drama involving Guns N' Roses and the festival.

In the run-up to this year's event organisers said they would have to pull the plug on the band's set if they ran over their schedule.

That's after Guns N' Roses took to the stage late at Leeds festival 2002.

Artist backlash However, many artists were critical of Guns N' Roses' actions over the weekend.

Lostprophets' guitarist Mike Lewis said: "It was so predictable that he was going to be late that nobody bothered questioning why. It's so predictable, it's boring.

"I don't see it as him being a rock star or rock 'n' roll. I just see it as being disrespectful.

"It's disrespectful to all the other bands. It's disrespectful to all the people who've bought tickets. I think the guy is a joke and I think his band is a joke."

Marina and The Diamonds' Marina Diamandis said: "I just think it's juvenile. It's really selfish to keep people waiting.

"Actually they did it because they [the organisers] said if you're an hour late you won't get paid so they were 58 minutes late in Reading."

"It's like, 'Grow up'. You're not king of the world."

Elsewhere, the final day of this year's Leeds festival saw performances from Queens Of The Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem and Mumford And Sons who drew a huge crowd at the NME/Radio 1 stage.

Reading festival was brought to a close with shows from Blink-182, Paramore and Klaxons.

  7. Gn'R of 2010 are a band that the press can't wait to take down like that - and when the gig unfolds like it did, they'll take the opportunity to maul the band, regardless of blame.

At a arena gig, you probably have somewhere in the region of 50/50 casual/hardcore Gn'R fans - whereas at a festival you may have 3/4% hardcore fans (maybe less at Leeds/Reading?) - and the crowd will be less forgiving with tech delays and late starts.

  8. Me and another forum member are looking to try and do the 3 shows. Would love to drive to them (road trip style), but that would involve something like 7000kms driving over a period of 7 days, so we're going to have to fly it... but either way, Guns Odyssey 2010 is on the cards...!

If anyone is keen to join at either show, please message me - want to try and get something going with this!

I'm going to shoot for Townsville over Sydney now mate...
