  1. He was the main riff-maker in GNR, so that speaks for itself. What Slash wanted GNR to sound like in the 90s can be heard on his "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" Snakepit Album. It's a great fuckin record, but it doesn't sound anything like GNR. To me, the GNR sound is Izzy's stones-esque riffs, combined with the low-end from Duff & Steve, then jacked up a bit with Slash's more aggressive take on Izzy's riffs, paired with Axl's vox. There are some vids where it's difficult to hear him, but that's more because it's a crappy recording. Youtube videos aren't going to be an exact replica of what the audiences actually heard at the show.

And get an honest answer. What would you ask? I know some people here think there's nothing he could really shed light on in an interview, even if there were no gags.

My question would be something like: "hi Slash. Huge fan. Perla's a cunt. Axl said you and Duff liked CD ll. Can you please maybe share in your own words what did you like about it? Axl also said that if you're interested, you can be a part of it. Were there any parts in the music where you could see yourself contributing to artistically?"

I asked him about one of his guitar once, and his tour setlist (with the Conspirators) a few years back on twitter, and he replied to me in a DM. Very gracious of him!

  3. It ain't GNR without Izzy. Izzy IS the GNR sound, being the main riffwriter for the band. That's why Snakepit & The Conspirators stuff sounds NOTHING like the GNR stuff.
The GNR sound is basically Izzy coming up with the main riff, and then Slash'll play it heavier (because if he didn't, it'd sound like the Stones, which  is Izzy's favorite band) and sometimes faster.

  4. I like it better the way they did it back in 88, when Steve & Duff would Jam for a bit, then Steve'd do a short drum-solo followed by Izzy joining in and then Slash doing his thing before the breakdown and the chorus. The Live Era version is cool too. I didn't care much for the 15 minute solo that he did when playing with Myles & The Conspirators, as the song loses too much momentum for my taste.

But he's rarely photographed with an SG, besides the double neck. 90% of photos with slash are either Les pauls, mockingbird or warlocks... it's more recently that he's introducing new live guitars, for example the Firebird he plays on this new tour... I had never seen Slash with a firebird before that... and I love GnR but I have no idea what guitar is used on what track, unless it's really obvious like a strat or tele... or the classic custom made les paul used for AFD

The doubleneck is a Gibson EDS-1275, it's not an SG.
Slash has played a Firebird guitar before, it was a Jackson Firebird with a Floyd Rose Whammy. It also had his tattoo design painted on it.
    Here it is:

jackson2.jpgjackson.jpgslash1.jpgThere's also a clip of him playing it on Youtube (playing the song "Nightrain")

  6. I think Slash's chaps are custom made, as they fit like the skinny-jeans that he wears. The Chaps I've seen look like they are loose fitting. I think it's fair to assume that the leather stuff slash wears is custom made (there's even a video on Youtube where he goes to this lady to get some custom made leather pants. It's from about 2000 I think)
