Well... safe to say Ordinary Man is a fucking masterpiece
Couldn’t agree more. MASTERPIECE. Duff’s bass at the beginning reminds me of November Rain. Love it.

Right now I'm listening to the Hell Revisited tracks (for those who don't know, basically just a bunch of demos) and it occurred to me that the production on the UYI albums helped propel GNR into one of the biggest bands in the world, at the time.
It is the opinion of many that the UYI albums are overproduced and over-bloated. While I can see that arguement (YCBM sometimes sounds too "glossy" to me), I also think it was required. Not only required, but it actually helped the songs. I just listened to the Don't Cry and November Rain demos, and while we all know these songs are good at the demo level, they were definitely not hits. Even if produced like AFD, I don't think these songs, or the other big hits from the UYIs would have been as popular as they became.
Yes, we all love a more raw and energetic version of the band, but I don't think GNR would have become as huge as they did if UYI was produced like AFD. The songs on UYI NEEDED to be produced the way they were to showcase they grandiosity or epicness, for a lack of a better word.
Like many others, I'd love to hear a less produced version of the album someday. However, the point I'm making is I don't think a lesser produced album would have made the band as big as they became after UYIs were released.
Spot on, I agree 100%. I would say the overdone and dramatic tour and videos actually helped build their larger than life mystique as well. Flying around with super models in a 727 and spending 1M+ on their music videos?! Hell yeah! This is why I love the Illusions era, it turned them into legitimate rock gods.

Has anyone bought one of the AFD Platinum plaques? I just did and kind of feel like a sucker. I’m interested to see what it looks like in person. I think it will be cool for my bathroom.

Definitely the best of the 3 singles so far.

I came across this today from an aviation channel I follow on YouTube. This is the inside of N502MG, the exact MGM Grand 727 that GNR used on the Illusions Tour. Video was taken in the last few weeks, and as you will see, the plane has been abandoned for quite some time at an airport in Michigan.
Video of the plane starts around the 8:45 mark:

I've long said they should drop a CD song (namely TWAT or the abomination that is TIL) and replace it with an instrumental of Locomotive, similar to the jam session they had with Jeff Beck in 92, only shorter. It makes sense: it's fast paced and energetic to keep the crowd interested, it gives ample scope for Slash's noodling and solos and whatnot, Duff can show off his skills, and it would give Axl a much needed vocal rest in the 3 hour set.
I realise most of us here have seen this, but posting for those few who haven't, because that outro is better than sex. I like best from 5:52 onwards because Duff's bass, and then Duff drumming, is everything. 7:30 is the reason I can never stay mad at Slash for long. Also, Axl is watching, which is also everything. ^^
I’m sure you know this, but just to clarify for those that might not... The only reason that Locomotive was a jam session without vocals here was because this was shot at sound check and Axl didn’t show up to sound checks. Had Jeff Beck not blown out his ear drum and they played this during the show, Axl would have been singing it. Either way, it would be great to add this to the new set list. I only recall Locomotive being played once or twice on the Illusion Tour... I want to say 1 night at MSG and 1 night at The Forum, both in 1991?

Great interview. This was probably the dude that originally leaked the Halloween party details to the New York Times or Rolling Stone back in the day. Didn’t one of those articles mention Axl dressing up as Barney?
Also, around the 48:20 mark, when everyone is talking about Axl playing video games, all three guys mention “it could have been his ____ room. It sounds like they’re saying his “alley” room... What room are they saying / talking about?

That's why those line-ups from 1999/2000 2001/2002 are my favourites. Every musician had his own signature sound and stage presence.
I think that Josh Freese was technically the best drummer that Axl / GNR ever had. Super cool guy as well. It’s a shame it didn’t work out. Even his drumming with Sting is fucking incredible...

I wonder if he talks through a puppet at a supermarket aswell
Forget the supermarket, how about the bedroom?! I’d say there’s an 85% chance that Bucket is a virgin... I’m kidding, but he’s definitely got a little 40 Year Old Virgin vibe going on and he probably jerks off to action figures.

I never really understood the dynamics with Buckethead in the band. How did they communicate with him? Was he that persona all the time? With the mask and well, the bucket on his head. Don't get me wrong, I think the character of Buckethead is cool and pretty ingenious really. He can go anywhere and be anonymous, doesn't get hassled. But I assume there is a separation between Buckethead and Brian Carroll.
There’s a great interview out there with Josh Freese that talks about Bucket and his relationship with Axl and how rarely he turns his persona off. Axl had to take him to Disneyland to get him to sign on and a bunch of other weird shit.

This is gold. Doug is so fucking shady. The only thing worse than The Rose Festival idea is his spelling. What the fuck was he thinking?! If he wasn’t high, he has major problems. Going back to my comments on another thread, something is just off with him. Fernando looks like Clive Davis compared to this clown. Niven was hands down their best manager. Such a shame...

Goldstein definitely comes across as a “nice guy”, but there’s something about him that is slippery. It’s just a feeling I get, but I feel like it’s a big act and he’s actually a pretty angry and divisive guy... Maybe he is trying to make amends for mistakes he made in the 90’s, but for some reason I’m just not buying it. Regardless, I hope he finds some sort of peace and happiness.

Just received my box set and I love it. It took me a while to find the hidden cassette, they did a great job of hiding it in there! I’m still going through everything, but I think this is worth the $1000.00 price tag for any hardcore fan that doesn’t mind spending $1,000.00 on this kind of thing.

It's nice to see all of the love and respect Malcolm is getting from his peers, from the members of Guns to Dave Grohl. He was the secret weapon of AC/DC and probably the most talented guy in the band.

When did Ashba's wife bash the Vegas show? That idiot can barely string together a sentence, so I'd love to hear her concert review. i just hope that it is a written review because deciphering her poorly written, broken English is actually more appealing to me than listening to that god awful, overly dramatic voice of hers.

I think Slash was working with Ace because he "couldn't afford" Adam Day with the money he was making with SMKC. Now he can.
I think it's all good anyway.
Didn't Adam have some sort of beef with Perla too? I thought she had something to do with their split as well, but I could be wrong. I mean, she gets blamed for pretty much everything so who the hell knows...

Very cool, but bummed they didn't feature Slash's Guild double neck, his Les Paul Gold Top, or any of the Firebirds he's been using for The Seeker. Would have also liked to have heard McBob talk about the Les Paul bass Duff used in the Estranged video and shows on the Skin n' Bones Tour. I wonder what happened to it and why he doesn't play it anymore...

Are we gonna get SOD on this tour?

Are you sure SOD is about Slash? Has Axl or anyone in the inner circle ever spoken about it? It always thought it was about Stephanie, much like everything else on CD!
