Sorry about the pic. I can't manage to paste it but it's the one he's on the rollercoaster.

And yes, his hair does look better in this last picture. He should def have it cut, but he should get a cool haircut though, nothing too tidy please.:nervous:

I love Steven Tyler's hair - he has a lot of it and imo he looks really cool, but I might be biased by his charisma. Dave Grohl's hair looks good too! But the king of good hair will always be Anthony Kiedis imo - I could spend all day just running my fingers through it.

If Anthony is the King, Dave is the Prince of good hair, IMO.

Good for you. But there are people who find it interesting what their favourite artist has to say about whats going on in the world. Guns were always political in some way. Afd was a fuck you to society. I dont get why people are harmed by what artists have to say about politics. Its ridiculous and narrow minded.

Agreed. Celebrities, at the end of the day, are private citizens and they have their opinions too. And they're also in a position to speak out against things, if they wish. Some people want that. I certainly appreciate it.

No, why you ask that question? :shrugs:

We are in this forum to discuss things we find interesting for us as fans. I don't think we need permission from the band members to talk about certain stuff and it'd be nice to have more clarity or information on specific things but if we had to wait for that then this place would be dead.

I don't think he's introverted at all. There's a lot of misconceptions with introverts and they are oftenly associated with being shy, antisocial (another term that is wrongly used), rude and even with a lower IQ than the rest, because it is a world dominated by extroverts.

From what I can grasp from him, he doesn't have the main traits of an introverted person but I can't say for sure. This has to be stated by a personality test.

I have had a personality and IQ test performed by professionals and I know I am an introvert. I also know which type because not all introverts are the same (neither the extroverts).

Yeah, not all introverts are the same, so maybe he likes to keep to himself. The question was rhetorical.

Introversion is a personality type not a mental disease

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.. he could just be introverted and prefers things this way? Does everyone want Axl to come on the forum and tell us exactly what's going on? 'Cause he probably wouldn't do that.

I think @Ubukitty had a great interpretation for this, and I pretty much agree. Bottom line, most people who grow up without a nurturing mother type figure rarely get a second chance..he did finally find someone late in life who is 100% in his corner, and interestingly enough, not a love interest either which is also out of the norm; so there really is no way for us to fully understand the strength of this bond..I understand how it may seem strange to some of us though.

But he always did have this jokey side to his personality..so the onstage thing doesn't seem that strange to me..plus, I think he is really truly happy up there with them.

I'm not sure about the not coming out of his hotel room..in addition to all that has been discussed by @frey (dammit, can't tag again!) I do see how it could be that the performances take all of his energy, and there is nothing left of himself afterwards..some actors, etc are like this. Whether this is a form of depression is certainly a possibility, but it could also be that he has just become a hermit, and only shines when he is onstage and in "rockstar mode." He interacts well enough with others to have formed a (seemingly) special bond with Melissa, so I don't think we have to worry about him too much. He is doing things on his own terms, as usual, but this time with a much more mellow edge.

Also, sorry that I came back to this topic hours later, but I didn't want to not respond. :)

I think he's pretty introverted, that could be why. In regards to the "some actors, etc" bit. And there's nothing wrong with that.

  6. Okay, I agree with @Frey, but here's what I'm thinking. The band is back together, for the most part. Axl was in seclusion for a long time, after the break-up of the group, perhaps during CD... I don't know a lot of the history, I'm talking off the top of my head here. Maybe he's come to like that. Maybe he's good with the guys on stage, but would prefer to be alone. He could be introverted, and, gasp, healthy. Sure, I worry about him, I feel sad for him seeing so much of this discussion even though he's a stranger and unfortunately I'll never know him. But maybe he's happy/happier this way. I don't know.

Now, here are some of my favorite pictures of Axl.

Again, flannel. I'm a sucker for a dude in flannel. Or a girl in flannel, whatever. Flannel. Yeah.

    RE: Light sensitivity:

Dude's a redhead. Redheads typically have very little melanin and they often have blond retinas (no joke), so they actually are more sensitive to light. So the blackout curtains and such could be for that, more than anything else. In the photos where Axl is outside and offstage during the day, he's usually got a baseball cap or another type of hat, plus sunglasses - yes, there's the rockstar vibe, but it's also likely to be to protect his skin and eyes from the light.

Plus people who are up at night and sleep during the day (whether that's due to choice or due to shift work, like firefighters and nurses who work night shifts) do try to block daytime sunlight from their rooms so they can sleep. And since we know Axl has been a night owl, there's another pretty boring explanation for it.

The black apartment was mentioned in Del James' article with Axl in Rolling Stone in, like, 1989. That's been known. There's a video of the apartment, even. No black walls, but the appliances and furniture are all black.

Xennial (late 70s/early 80s birth year) here - I hear you. It seems the women's choices in a lot of stores are either "12 year old pixie" or "middle-aged bake sale matron" with no in-between. I liked Wet Seal, but they went under. They were actually selling leggings that looked like those rose ones Axl had in the 90s last year, LOL.

God, I want leggings like that. I totally used to have a shirt with roses on it, I think... but then I got rid of it because at the time I was cleaning my closet and never wore it. Well, fuck me now, huh? I do have a sweater with roses on the sleeves, though. No GNR shirts, though. Close enough.

When I came across pictures of his house, I didn't expect something so modest. But I like it, it's refreshing. I always wondered, too, if the Estranged "house" was his, and I guess it was (is). Which is... interesting and kind of sad if you think about it, I guess. Considering everything surrounding the video and stuff. Not to dwell on the past, but, yeah.

  10. So Axl doesn't/didn't look the part of the macho guy, but I think he acted like it. And I think he had a lot of internalized misogyny/etc within him even though he was playing piano and the "sissy" songs as male fans deemed them, echoing another comment in the post. It's tough to get out of internalized misogyny/homophobia, etc, but it's possible. But that feels like another can of worms to deal with. That's my two cents, and I think Axl was maybe fine with showing his heart on his sleeve through those songs? That's how I see it. I mean, he's so sensitive, he's said the band didn't think he could write, Stephanie thought he couldn't, either. But I'm rehashing the past, here.

I wish Axl was as happy as he looked; maybe he is, we don't know.

The original split came when the rest of the band wanted to go in a heavier/bluesier direction (this was early 90s when grunge was taking off) and Vince wasn't on the same page, so they fired him, but over the years I think it's mainly been Vince/Tommy who have clashed, they seem to have a love/hate relationship. There's probably a lot of old wounds stemming from the Razzle incident as well, as it brought a lot of shame on the band.

Ah, I remember that. They fired Vince and brought in John Corabi. That was interesting, although I only know of a few songs he did. I was obsessed with Motley Crue for a good year in high school, and then I got bored with them. That's happened a lot with my musical tastes... but anyways. I've never really been a fan of Vince, even though him talking about his daughter's passing in the book was really sad.

I never said someone without a wife or kids necessarily has to be lonely. I was talking about Axl specifically, and I base that on Axl himself whining about being lonely and depressed (as @SerenityScorp already mentioned and @MillionsOfSpiders kindly provided screenshots to one of these incidents I was thinking of), as well as other people who worked with him throughout the lost years saying he gave them the same impression. And frankly, he looks dead-eyed most of the time in videos and pictures off-stage. It's not quite as bad these days, but some of the stuff that surfaced during the 2000-2014 era was scary.

Also, I'm not judgemental or a traditionalist, I don't have anything against people building themselves a "chosen" family out of close friends or having unorthodox families (hell, I myself suggested that Axl should find himself a nice beefy boyfriend only a couple of pages ago). But again, we're talking about Axl here and not just any random person and Axl always talked about wanting the whole wife and kids shebang. We know he still wanted that in the 2000s (when TB was around for a long time already). By now, he's probably given up on that, but what he's got instead apparently doesn't seem to make him happy or fulfilled either. If TB were less shady and untrustworthy, and if Axl seemed happy and content with his situation in life, I wouldn't say a thing against TB or whoever else Axl chose as his family, but as it is... :shrugs:

(And I have to say your view of families is very cynical. Most families are dysfunctional? Where? I love my family and get along great with them and most of my friends have happy, healthy families as well, so I really can't share that impression.)

And I think you're underestimating how messed up he is. There've been plenty of times throughout the last decades where he'd have needed (and should have gotten) professional help (and that's only the bits and pieces we know of. I'm sure there was much more stuff we're not even aware of). Even Axl himself apparently realized that at some points. I don't think he should ever have been forcibly institutionalized like @killuridols suggested once, but I sure wish he'd gotten some actual, serious help at certain points (instead of Doug Goldstein, Beta, Yoda, Elliot and Suzy London).

Also, both people who know Axl as well as random people on the internet keep speculating about what the hell Axl's deal is. By now I've seen nearly everything (and some of it is even very well-argued and plausible): Bipolar Disorder, Severe Depression, PTSD / complex PTSD, ADHD, anxiety disorders, Autism, Borderline Personality Disorder, different/abnormal neurological wiring in his brain, and yes, even schizophrenia. And many more I'm forgetting right now. Why is that? No one ever suggests anything like this about Slash or Duff for example. I'm thinking a lot of people can instinctively tell something is "off" about Axl, and since Axl never speaks out anymore about what's going on with him (unlike Duff, who told us very clearly what he struggles with and how he deals with it), people speculate on and on...

Also, please don't feel obliged to reply, we're probably not going to agree on this and I'm most likely not going to be around much for the next couple of days and can't reply as in depth as this topic deserves.

    I'm working on it.

The bolded is an excellent point.

TB are awfully incompetent in most areas, but they sure are good at at holding onto Axl and not letting him out of their grasp. Suggesting they're just Axl's innocent little puppets and ass-lickers is ridiculous.

That's a good way of putting it- emotional dependence. And TB've made sure to foster and maintain that dependence all these years...

Keep in mind though that Slash likes to play it cool and never talks too much about what is really going on in his mind. But if you read other people's observations about Slash and read between the lines a little in the stuff he himself says, it's pretty clear Axl was on his mind a lot. Axl and Slash were as bad as each other, Slash's just better at hiding it, while Axl wears his thoughts and emotions for the whole world to see.

    -----

@solstar etc.: I definitely remember reading a quote by Axl saying he doesn't like having his picture taken. But he does it because he knows it means a lot to the fans or something. And if I'm remembering this right, this was in an old interview from back in the day, so he was never fond of being photographed to begin with.

I'm just gonna quote Tolstoy (although I have yet to finish Anna Karenina), and leave it at that:

Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

I don't know if it's hidden, truth is that he now seems as reclusive as ever. He doesn't seem to go out, nor to party, nor even for some sightseeing. I don't know how being locked in an hotel room and locked in a plane all the time can be healthy and doesn't drive him crazy, but it's Axl, I don't get him anyway :shrugs:

As for my boy Andrei, well, he had all the fashion weeks to go, all the models to meet. He's been pretty busy lately. But I'm sure we will be back for the European leg, along with Sasha, the intelligent models and all that

I guess You didnt read old Women thread then. Slash kept thinking about Axl, He defend Axl in His mind when Someone mock Axl in front of Him, You can read it on His book. its when He met St.  Louis Biker N' Scott said bad things about Axl, (I believe the one who makes Ash apologize about Axl is Slash)  also Slash even thought tht Someone tht He work with made an album about Axl while actually its not cause He never met Axl.

Also tht moment when He went to Axl house, want to reconciliation

N'He even still kept dat Estranged Rocking Dino a gift from Axl when They had a feud

Dats accident not suicide,  Its not tht.  He tried to suicide after Slash left also I think He ever said before tht He hurted Himself but stop

My bad, I assumed that was one of his attempts. I think he talked about it in Don't Cry, the making of -- 1990 being a bad year for him? His divorce and all of that. I assumed it was kind of linked to that.

  15. 2 hours ago, KiraMPD said:

It seems there were a couple more attempts in the 90's...

From Mick Wall's book "Last Of The Giants: The True Story of Guns N’ Roses"

      Hide contents

When, though, in October 1996, Slash did an online interview where he admitted that ‘right now, Axl and I are deliberating over the future of our relationship’, Axl felt angry, hurt and utterly betrayed. He rushed to get his side of the story out, sending a fax to MTV on 30 October in which he suggested it was his decision that Slash should leave, one he had actually made as far back as 1995. He could no longer work with him, he said, because the guitarist had lost his ‘dive in and find the monkey’ attitude. Privately, however, Axl felt more alone than he ever had before. First Steven, then Izzy . . . now Slash? What was happening to him? In the most fragile moment of the night, he blamed himself. That’s when Doug would get the calls from Beta, begging him to come over and talk Axl down. Up to face the day, though, Axl would know again that it wasn’t him it was them. Fuck ’em all!

You should also see the video of Axl thanking Beta during RIR 2001.

There were a couple more sources that suggested that Axl attempted suicide more than once but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. I would suggest looking trough the old Women's thread as more sources and quotes were posted there.

Wow. Yeah, I saw the RIR bit of him thanking Beta, it was really emotional. I watched a few performances from it and it was good, minus technical difficulties.

Yeah! I love the fact that Slash has a gf his age. I mean, he is Slash, he could have anyone,  but still he chooses to hang out with somene he has things in common and can connect with. I think that's pretty mature of him, and sweet! Axl seems to have more limitations emotionally speaking, but still he is showing some growth. Good for him too!

About the Steven issue, Axl flew to BA with the band (he had been spending time with them since Peru actually, i.e. about a week or two). True - he was in a different hotel in BA and probably that is the reason why he was not in the loop about Steven, but this is precisely what makes me think that he is not that aware of what's going on around him. As long as he keeps himself isolated from the rest of the world and nobody bothers to tell him stuff (God forbid the prince is disturbed and throws out a tantrum), he will be missing on lots of stuff.

YESSSSS. Exactly this! Finally I've found someone who can see this resemblance! It's like twins separated at birth! Seriously, they are so similar in so many levels - everybody either workships or hates them, and the people around them just humour them so as to avoid their tantrums, and what's worse, they seem to enjoy having this group of kissass suckers around .  I think they are even a similar age. Have they ever met? THAT would be an interesting encounter :P

Maradona has children though, and they might be somewhat of an anchor for him. Axl, on the other hand...

TB could be an obstacle for Axl dating opportunities as long as he wants it that way. In the end, it is only up to him to decide to date someone more seriously, and I don't think TB or anyone could stop him if he sets up his mind.

Now, seriously, you would not date Axl even if he told you "You are beautiful"?

I'd date him. I'm old enough, but probably too young for him -- in my twenties. I'm sensitive and moody like he is, though, so we might get along. Or not, really. I'd get cabin fever staying at home all the time.
