And yet - it's the biggest koncert there :D

To be fair though, this tour is probably the biggest one coming to Iceland in decades.

Not 100% sure but i dont think i have seen a Metallica, Maiden, U2, Springsteen, Stones tour reaching Iceland.

But Also props to GnR giving Iceland a show. It is good when smaller places Also get big tours coming to them.

i dont want to sound dumb but is iceland one of those northern countries where it doesn't get dark in the summer months ?

Yes as its quite far north as well. Not sure if Reykjavik is as far north so you get that 24 hour daylight in the summer as you do in the most northern parts in sweden.

  3. My pics from the floor area. They didnt even have a barricaded area infront of the stage, never seen that before. They had a sectioned off "VIP area" called the redzone to the left of the catwalk, but thats it. GA tickets for that show was pretty cheap too, was like 70 dollars iirc.

And my pics from my seat the 2nd night. It was great with a stage that didnt have a "tent" around it.

That's due to the GA/floor has seats in the US. You can put a lot of more people into the stadium if they're standing/moving around.

I went to a U2 show at Metlife stadium, no seats on the floor then. Still the attendance were "only" about 55 k each show.

  5. Yeah i have had bad seats far up in the stands once and after that never again am i going to any gig with bad seats like that. Its not worth it at all, the price for tickets like those is also often the same as GA standing too. Imo really bad seats shouldnt cost more than equal to like $20 or so.

I have been in the stands a few times since but then it is good ones close to the stage, it is OK if you go to gigs that are more of a show.

But i usually tend to get GA standing or Golden Circle if they have that and try to get pretty close to the action as often as i can, i usually dont tend to line up for hours and try to be at the railing next to the stage though.

  6. *Attendence by a hard rock/metal show that is. There have been higher attendence with other artists. Highest being set in 2016 with 70 144 by Håkan Hellström. He is Gothenburg’s Springsteen basically. Also Bruce has played for larger crowds in 2016 2x for 66k and 1 time for 64k.  And Coldplay sold out twice last year to a crowd of 66k...

On the top 10 attendence record GnR is #10.

I find it interesting that bigger stadiums such as Metlife, AT&T stadium and so on had much less capacity than Ullevi. Metlife having about 50k capacity for this tour, even Friends Arena had about 55 or 56k capacity, while also have a similar size floor. Ullevi has a gigantic GA floor due to a track n field lap around a football field.

Because they are there to work, not party like the rest of us. They need proper internet because they are live tweeting/reporting and they need a desk so they can write. Probably a coffee or two as well.

Yes but usually you have one guy doing live reporting and then one writing the review. But i guess they are writing as the concert goes along...

  8. Come to think of it, why are critics always in the stands quite often a good way from the stage as well? Is there a reason why they are seated in the same section as the press are at football games? Why are they never in the floor and in the pit section?

Of course you will have a worse experience if you are that far away...

  9. In every review i read about this gig the critics are shitting on Coma and the Chinese Democracy song. Seems to be a popular opinion to crap on that album in particular.

I am no die hard GnR fan by any means or big on CD, but i actually liked songs like Better and Madagascar quite a lot. Much more than some of the covers.

I'm not gonna bash the sound problems in friends because I think that most people just go by what the paper critics say. The ordinary Joe with earplugs tucked deep in their ears doesn't have a clue what it's supposed to sound like. That being said, I kind of hate going to gigs in friends. It's an awful dark hangar like place where you're not sure if you are in a very dark living room or just buried underground. The atmosphere is just so very very bad. On the contrary, Ullevi manage to create intimacy just builds this huge party with 64 000 people. It's just fantastic and the sound is phenomenal if it's not too windy.

Yeah i cant comment too much on the sound myself as 1. I am pretty much never in the stands 2. I always use earplugs as the sound gets too overbearing and distorts your hearing otherwise, also to protect my hearing of course. 3. I always try to be in the pit/golden circle/barricaded area in front of the stage.

And i 100% agree with the comparisons on atmosphere between the 2 places. You barely notice in Stockholm if there is a concert in town, but if there is a gig at Ullevi you see it all over town. With pre-parties all over town blasting the music of the artist, people drinking in parks nearby and so on.

I have been to Metlife Stadium for a concert and it was pretty much the same thing as going to Friends Arena as you have to go there by car or public transport. Better venue overall though.

What an amazing show, so much better than the one in Stockholm last year! Thank you for coming to Gothenburg GNR and please come back again. :D

Every show is just better at Ullevi than at Friends Arena, it is just a matter of fact. ;)

There is a reason why Ullevi is considered a classic concert venue and Friends are more or less infamous for its problems with acoustics and whatnot. Also Ullevi is at ideal place in a city where you dont have to use any sort of public transport to get to it.

But to be fair i had a great time at Friends this year seeing Eminem there. But the Springsteen shows at Friends vs Ullevi isnt even close to which was better.

  12. Iirc he said Gothenburg at least a couple of times during the show.

Had a good time at the show, was better than i expected as well being my first show. Agree with some that some trimming could be used on the long solos and covers. But that is just some critique not so much complaints.

At first it felt sureal to see Axl, Slash etc stand there right in front of me.

Glad everyone had a fab time Ullevi looked full bigger venue than Valle Hovin which just wasnt big enough for them tnis nx 1 in Reykjavik is even smaller then Valle Hovin i do hope we get too see them again at some point.........

Ullevi is a much larger venue than Valle Hovin, much better venue too. Norway doesnt really have too many outdoor venues to chose from so.
