I've never heard that band before. They're fun. The most unique instrument I play(ed) is the mandolin. I played Celtic music. Attended lots of workshops at the festivals and guilds but never got very good. At the pub jams they'd always keep ordering me pints just so I couldn't join in on 3rd mandolin  I also played in a rock band with a flutist/sax player. They played concert flute as well as an Inuit flute.

Canada has a lot of really great Celtic Rock bands. This one first because it has flute:

This has Bodhran (drums), squeeze box, mandolin (electric mandolin):

This band, translated to English "The Smiling Boots" are incredible. Anyone should always see them at any chance they get! They usually are called "Quebecois Heritage Music" which is misleading as the Quebecois are a member of the Celtic Family. Solo melodic fiddle music is the most popular Quebecois contribution to Celtic music. This band uses so many instruments, including those boots! They have a very modern take on the music. I'm sure some of their tracks have flute if you look.

Check out this amazing Celtic rock, from the far North of all places! Fiddle, squeeze box and Throat Singing:

And this straight forward rock song with fiddle, string section, upright bass, concert flute, traditional Native flute and hand drums ("drums" in English as there are drums women play and drums men play so that is how its distinguished. Made of deer of moose hide). Unfortunately this hispter band decided to dress up as "cowboys" for this special performance when they were joined by Indigenous peeps. A step up as when they instructed their audience to attend their shows dressed up as the band - including giving out printed masks of their own faces  But I digress, a great piece of traditional flute in modern rock music:

Omina reminded me most of Loreena Mckennitt. She does Celtic-World Music fusion. So many instruments here including flute (very low in mix), fiddle, Cello, squeeze box, bouzouki (I think?), hurdy-gurdy is portrayed in video, not sure if its in the mix, tin whistle, Tablas and other drums I dont know the names of:

Mummering is a Nova Scotia tradition (with in the Celtic community primarily) where one night a year during Christmas time the workers dress up in disguises, becoming Mummers, and go as a group to all the bosses and wealthy peoples homes where they are entertained with live music and dance, food and drink provided by 'hosts' and all sorts of rabble rousing. The game is that once the boss figures out who you are you have to take your mask off and you can no longer eat or drink their food. Eventually that leads to the mummers going onto the next bosses home to do it all again.

Wow! Thank you so much for this. I can't wait to watch them all in my free time.

  2. I'm in the market for a concert flute and I looked for "rock flute" videos on Youtube. I came across this band and I love the way they sound. I love the sound of Celtic music. Are they really pagan? I love how they use various instruments that I haven't seen before. Do you guys play any unique instruments like those? I'm now listening to all their vids on Youtube and I'm thinking it will be great if GNR can make like a "Celtic sounding music" with a bit of rock. That will be really cool. I hope they have a new album coming but I know they may be tired of touring at the moment.

I know the feeling. What country are you from?

Yes, I'm from the Philippines. During the concert, I was like "wow, I feel like they are singing quite a lot of songs like never ending and Axl looked happy and enjoying   but the moment it was the last song I was like waaaaah why didn't I buy the platinum, I want to see them closer. So after the show, I was like, omg I want to cry, I feel like I'm connected with them "related by blood" that I really need to talk to them lol. That's a crazy feeling that I probably got for joining forums "like this" since I felt like it's a big part of me lol. Really crazy ^-^ Will W. Axl Rose come back to this forum again in December and greet us all a "Merry Christmas"? Oh man, that will feel so good!

I had that feeling after the Milwaukee show last November. It was an amazing show but I knew that was the last time I'd be seeing the band for a while.

I also feel the same way when I finish watching Friends. That last scene hits hard every time

Oh, that's the saddest part, when the concert was over  I am a fan of Friends too. There was a time I got addicted, I would repeat watching on Youtube. I'm an avid fan of Rachel and Ross. "Ross" makes me laugh out loud.

  5. So I told my friend my heart felt a bit heavy after the concert. I couldn't explain why. Probably because I still couldn't believe it happened in  my country after long years of waiting. It was like a miracle to me. I actually did an act of kindness to someone before my best friend linked me to the post that says GNR would have a concert in my country, so I thought to myself, maybe it's God's way of blessing me for that "act of kindness."

Anyway, my best friend said I'm suffering from PDC and I googled it and found an article that says it has some phases such as Euphoria, Reflection, Realization, and so on....and right now I guess I'm in the realization stage. :axl92::slash: Have you experienced the same? Am I the only one?

Axlwannabe! Sure, I remember you :)

:headbang: I first saw you here on the "religion thread" and suddenly the "religion and spirituality thread" flashed back.  Great to know you have maintained writing on forums. I was inactive for nine long years until they had a concert in my country for the first time and I had a PCD (post-concert depression) and now I'm on the stalking :headbang:stage again lol.

Could be, or one of my many imposters who try to get in on the success formula.

It's been a few years since I was active there, though, and can't say I remember your nickname.

I was Axlwannabe in that forum. I remember the same thread where I first encountered your name ^-^ I wonder if you posted a pic in "What do you look like thread" coz I have this image of you in my head.

If you even dream about it you better wake up and get a cease and desist tweet from Axl.

    Maybe ask permission politely.

    Maybe not. Maybe go fuckyourself.

Ask permission from whom?  from Axl? The man can't be messaged lol. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

    Yes.

Are you the same soul monster that I know from the NEWGNR forum?

  9. I am a bit worried about copyright issues or whatever issues in writing such as having to ask permission first for instance from somebody. What do you think? I'm so excited to write a blog about it. I'm not planning to post any videos during the concert as I don't have one, just some pictures and anecdote about this "dream come true" concert. Thank you in advance for those who can give me some advice about this especially those who also have a website or a blog in here.

Yes I am. Unfortunately there's just a few of us in this forum. Hopefully we'll be bigger the next time they come to the country. Encourage your friends who love GN'R to join. So you can all join in whenever we conspire about something inside the band. Whether it's Axl's voice/weight/wardrobe, new music, new leg from the tour, are Axl and Slash really friends now, etc.

Sure, I know some people around me like the friends of my sisters who also watched the concert (They came all the way from Batangas, my hometown, rented a van for the concert) or the friends of my friends lol. Next time, I'll make a great plan. Hopefully, they come back.

Lol same here. Lots of friends from around the world!

By the way, you're from the Philippines, right? I was wondering if there are any active fans club here in the Phil? During the concert, I was looking around for some organizations especially from forums like this?  I just saw some young guys who cosplayed as  AXl and Slash. That's amazing.

I got a regular GA ticket for my first show, but through a fan I met online, I ended up getting EE for a gig, and got a great spot at the rail. Since then, it's been the rail or nothing for me. Just warning you, there's no turning back

Glad you had such a great experience and welcome.

 Lucky you. After experiencing the upper box seat, I told myself, I will never ever get stingy again when it comes to Guns N' Roses coz not seeing like a "life-size" Axl or Slash made me really depressed for days, especially upon experiencing how great this band sounds in concert. I was like "waaaaah" second concert, please. I  also wonder how other fans can take photos with them. Next time, please inform me how.  I will start saving now.  They are all musical genius, as in "all-out."

Welcome! T'was an awesome night last Sunday! See you when they return again! We had the same reaction about the crowd, when they started I saw empty seats. 2 songs later it's like the chairs gave birth to people.

Oh, I like the term "the chairs gave birth to people"  Definitely, next time when they return here, I'll meet up with you guys. I'm an avid fan like I know most of their songs. :headbang: In the NewGNR forum, I've made friends with fans all over the world. I've been friends with some of them for like a decade now.  Truly, GNR is a blessing to me. Here, I can also practice my English and learn a lot of different idioms from the members lol. So great to be back.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yeah, I read all the posts on this thread and I saw their posts. I should have joined here before the concert.
