What time are you all getting down there?
I'm planning on being there 5:30PM or so.
What do you figure is the latest I could get down there and still get a decent place in line? I've got regular GA tickets, so I won't realistically have a shot at the very front, but I don't want to be dead in the back either. My buddy who's going with me won't be down there until 8, but I could get in line as early as 6.
I haven't heard much buzz about this show, but since the GA tickets sold out, I expect it to be pretty packed.
Any tips for maximizing my experience? When I saw GN'R in '06 I had seats and I've never really done the GA thing before at a big concert. Looking forward to an awesome time nomatter what!

I'm likely going to Silver Spring.

I think the ferry stops in October. Besides, no guarantee it will be around when the show ends at 2 am. PATCO might work, but you'd probably have to take a taxi from the closest station to the venue (not sure which one goes closest).
Thank you for the info. I'll try to do some more research.
I've taken PATCO from Philly to a show at the SBC before. It's a short walk from the nearest station.
I'm not sure if they will still be operating when the show closes, so you might need to take a cab back into the city.

A lot of major artists are using pitch shifting tools live these days to ensure a more studio-like sound. It's really easy to pick out when artists perform live on the morning shows or on SNL and the like--anything that is broadcast live.
Axl doesn't seem to do this as much anymore, but when he does that chattery forced-vibrato thing, it creates a pitch-shifted-like sound. I think the example at the start of the thread is just a weird fluke caused by him switching between normal to head voice and back very suddenly and awkwardly on a high note.
That said, I still wouldn't be surprised if he does use tuning tools to enhance his performance.

The court doc spells out the entire story behind the last few years, explaining every broken promise. It's all here.
I think Rose & company may have a hard time proving that it was Azoff's intention to force a reunion by ruining the band all along, but there are many points in there that have a lot of merit.
I guess that explains everything, then. rock1

When was the last time he actually went high for the "only memory" part? I think the only time I've heard him successfully hit the note was Osaka 2002.08.18. Has he attempted it recently?
I remember the first time I heard the Osaka boot and was like "whoah!" and how much I wanted him to hit that on the album. Then we got the first Blues leak, and it was great to hear that he went that way.

It actually came out today -- got it in where I work and I put it on a feature display.
Do you have monumental promotion to go along with it?
Monumental promotion was never something anyone in the band talked about. A fan extrapolated about something that was said, and it seems like everybody has been carrying that torch ever since

just wondering, what does a 'full pat down' mean? I know pat down is where the security does a quick check on you. But does a full pat down mean they will be actually patting you where they are not supposed to? Like down there...? plan on taking a small device to record audio
At the show in Baltimore in '06, I got to the door with a small Nikon point and shoot in my pocket, and saw "no cameras" signs and saw that they were giving everyone a pretty extensive pat down.
I went around the corner to a fast food restaurant, and went in the bathroom, and figured out I could hang the camera from the inside of the button on my pants so it was right over my junk. Security gave me a pretty close pat-down, but the guy's fingers stayed away from that area, but he was really close, and I was sure the gig was up. Luckily, I was able to walk right in with no problem.

What is the intro song to the Tokyo 09 show? They played during the Oklahoma 92 show as well.
Was it "Everybody Knows" by Leonard Cohen? I haven't seen the '09 boot, but I know they played a bit of that song back in the day.

I gotta say I was bummed when Robin left but that DJ is something else!
I was a big fan of Robin's stage presence, his playing style, and his backup vocals, and was sad to see him go, but I really like the Slash-esque vibe that DJ has going on with his playing style. Great pick for a replacement! rock1

Taipei was a great show (the fan energy seems like it was amazing!) but I think there were better shows in 06...at least as far as the band is concerned. Rock AM Ring was probably one of the best GN'R shows ever--The Nightrain performance from that show is probably the best the song has ever been played live! Some of the other shows toward the end of the tour were also really good...some of them in CA and the one in Baltimore...

Axl looks fucking beast. I hope we get some decent video/audio soon so I can check out how he sounds.

Guns N' Roses--the name contains symbols of aggression/defense and selfless submission/tribute--does the name mean anything symbolically to you outside its literal, namesake derivation? Have the name's deeper synonyms, eg. the most dangerous band in the world, had any impact on your decision to keep it, or have you just retained it for its legendary status and ease of identification?

Anybody got the color pic from the web? If the jpeg artifacting is the same on both pics, it's fake.

I've been waiting so long for this. It's unbelievable.

yeah... i think the best thing to do is stay tuned for an update from a more official source. I'm sure someone with pull will hear about this tho and do some investigating. Eddie Trunk or the like would probably look into it for discussion on their show

Any video of the one where some guy jumped on stage, and Axl had security restrain him while he "stomped" on his face?
-
haha,he probably would storm off the stage causing a riot:

bottles fly,but shoes fly too...Axl stopped a concert after a coin hits him, imagine a big fuckin' shoe.
he stopped a concert in south America after a big plastic or wood horn shaped thing hit the stage. They kept on playing, but he wasn't too happy with the crowd. There is video of this.

Nice cover. Wish she didn't walk around like she has a load in her pants, tho.
-
hmm id look like an idiot in that one...
But the one he has in the AFD cross is awesome

This riff has been around for ages and ages in one form or another.
It's my big complaint against the song. Musically, walking up the scale doesn't show a lot of expiramentation. I like the song a lot more now, but its always been my fear that this riff will make the song laughed at

How many HMV threads have there been in the last 3 days? At least 3 that I know of. Shouldnt there be some kind of trash thread for all these HMV jokes

I think there is a lot of validity to this. Plus, the audience gets more caught up in the energy of the whole thing.
I was at the Silver Spring show a couple months ago, and I thought he sounded pretty much exactly like most of the videos portray. Still was an awesome show, and Axl still had some incredible vocal moments. And he looked like he was sick as a dog--I was impressed he sounded as good as he did.
