  1. The way I see it; Axl has an incredibly demanding style of singing, and the weaknesses in this kid's voice is definitely revealed throughout the song. That doesn't mean it was bad, I thought it was a nice try, but it was not as good as Axl's.

  2. I have trouble seeing how there is a joke in there at all; he is asking whether it would be funny if a woman got raped? No, of course it wouldn't, if this is a joke, where is the punchline?

I think the article that NormalGuns provided a link for is great (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/07/11/why-daniel-tosh-s-rape-joke-at-the-laugh-factory-wasn-t-funny.html):

He really is just trying to assert his power, it may not be a threat, but it surely reminds her of her vulnerability in an audience that I would think are mostly young men.

I also agree with the author of the article that any subject can be funny; but with sensitive subjects you should be a little careful, and here he is basically just saying; "You know this could happen to you, right?" That's not even close to funny in my book. Especially since he repeats "like right now" twice, that does indeed make it sound eerily like a threat.

  3. Just watched the artist. Fantastic movie. Made me want to go back and look at some of the old silent classics. If anyone is somewhat interested; I would urge you to go, it was so much more fun and so much more engaging than I expected.

  4. Government control over the printing of money is important when Fiat money is involved. If our dollar was based on Gold or Silver, as it had been for nearly 3000 years, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. The first great depression was only allowed to happen because of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, with a gold standard, it would of never happened.

Who is us in 'our dollar'?

The USA seems to have adopted a derivative silver standard a little before the end of the 18th century, and changed to a gold standard only halfway through the 19th century. After some changes along the way in their policies (it turns out there are many ways to have a gold-standard), the US eventually abandoned the gold standard under Nixon, in 1971; some time after the great depression in the 1930s.

Also, the dollar is fairly recent, the earliest use in America might have been the Dutch lion dollar which came along from Europe quite quickly after Europeans started settling America. Its use was formalized around the same time as the United States adopted the derivative silver standard a little before the end of the 18th century.

Again, here is the show of a lack of understand of how economies have worked. In the early 20th century, 1913 to be precise, introduced something called "Federal Reserve Notes" Which are what we know to be American Dollars today. That was in addition to the already circulating currency known as gold certificates:

    Us-gold-certificate-1922.jpg

Federal Reserve Notes originally had to be based on gold coins, but quickly the banks started printing out more bills then gold available at the time. Banks were lending out more then they had, since Federal Reserve Notes were supposed to be guaranteed money. The automobile industry started producing more cars then the demand, thus creating hyper-deflation that crashed that sector of the market, that then crashed the banking system. If Gold Certificates were kept, and printed by the bank to the amount of gold it had, that couldn't of happened.

You are very certain of your views on this, but as you probably know but fail to say; your explanation is only one of many explanations for the Great Depression. Yours seems to be taken from the Austrian school which emphasized that the long-term expansion of the money-supply caused the crisis. This is certainly not a mainstream view, and most economists seem to hold the opposite view; that the contraction of the money supply after the stock crash turned a normal recession into a great depression. Another view, related to the latter views, is that lack of effective demand caused by rising inequality caused the depression. These are all legitimate views, and I'm really not convinced that you have a clear understanding of how economies work. You seem to have clear political views, but that's a different thing.

  6. Treme! Beautiful series; explores New Orleans' culture through following some musicians in the time after hurricane Katrina. A lot of awesome music, and that same great dialogue that made the Wire into the realistic and fun series that it is. I'm betting you, if you start watching these series, you will want to go to New Orleans; the series really sucks you in by getting across (one sense of) the atmosphere in New Orleans. As you can tell, I'm really exited about this show..might be because I study culture and politics, and so have a special interest in the subject matter of the show, or it might be that its just a great show..but I do urge you to test-run an episode or two :)

  7. I will have to agree with Matt13 saying that politics is important. But because politicians have let themselves be kept hostage by the threat of economic globalization, it seems that every politician thinks that one can't do anything more than administrate.

When it comes to the short discussion about right-wing/left-wing I think the flat-out rejection of this way of thinking about politics doesn't make much sense. The right/left distinction is about economic issues. The left is usually associated with a desire to have the government provide more services and since they want this they also have to take in more taxes. The right want lower taxes, and because of this people have to pay more money privately for health-care, school, university etc. I don't see how that is a stupid distinction, but if you are saying that this isn't all that matters, I would agree absolutely.

Also, the idea that far-right is anarchy whilst far-left is totalitarianism is historically wrong. (Economically) leftist governments like soviet union or china (before 1980) where authoritarian, but so where right-wing governments like the fascist countries in Europe (Spain, Italy, Germany) and for example Pinochet's Chile. A far more useful way of looking at the right-left scale in my opinion is to look at it as a circle, where what is considered left and right today still agree on fundamental things like democracy/freedom of speech etc, whilst the extreme right and left would also be similar in that they don't agree with these general principles and don't respect individual freedoms in any sense. At least it is a historically better way of viewing it, even if it doesn't fit neatly in to the political discourse today which seems to demonize the other side beyond recognition.

  8. I thought it was great..made me want to check out what other things Tommy has made, and as it turns out his solo Village Gorilla Head seems very promising so far..can't quite pin down who he reminds me of, but I am pretty sure it is someone good.. Btw, to anyone that hasn't listened to the replacements, do check out 'Let it Be' or 'Pleased to meet me'

  9. Nick Drake - Pink moon

Yes, agree, Nick Drake is just amazing, love his guitarplaying and his quiet singing, dreamy albums...

Elliot Smith is another favorite of mine, much like Nick Drake a troubled brilliant man..

Bonnie Prince Billy is perhaps my favorite artist, Master and everyone is acoustic and very very good, beautiful lyrics

  10. I love Morrissey, his two latest albums are excellent, You are the quarry and Leader of the Tormentors. The collection album Suadehead is also very good.

I should look up some The Smiths but havent gotten around to it jet, but I have heard that they are cool aswell :)

  11. If reason and self-reflection was a part of a rascist mind then I would have guessed "God, I am an asshole...I really have some excuses to give out" .. obviously that realisation should have come much earlier so more realisticly: "huh??"

  12. I asume you know that USA is just protecting their own interests? Its in their interest to have liberal world as it both makes USA safer and it makes USA richer.

Aside from that, that must truly be one of the most stupid posts I have ever read

  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16W3ZyXge6g...ted&search=

So underated. Generation Terrorsts is like UK's AFD.

The manics are one of my favourite bands and their music helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. Richey really was a true poet and songwriting genius, I hope he is still alive somewhere and happier than he was before.

I have his USELESS GENERATION tattoo on my upper arm :)

Haha, awesome with the useless gengeration tattoo :D

  14. For me, Bob Dylan and Neil Yound is in a different class than Springsteen, however for me, Neil Young is definitly the best, his rawness, volnerability and honesty does that for me.

Cave and Cohen is also two other favorites of mine, everyone should get the live 1979 record of him, its just magic in that way only fantastic live records can be ;)

  15. like loads of then pissed of at america and others for having nuculer wepons and all but dont thay unserstand thats its for self defence and while humans are on earth ther is always gonna be war the matter what like thay should come back to earth... we all no it would be cool to have peace but if people are picking fights and all you gotaa do something about it. what do you guys think on this

hehe, I love how you use a fundamentaly pessimistic sight of the human race and makes it into an objective one :xmasssanta:

And I think we are in the soft part of the marshmellow here, while you and other who are more cynical, perceives the world this way, artists tend to be quite independant and therefore they know that people have the ability to choose war or peace themselves, and if they do, then you can influence them :)

And ofcourse, like kevdo242 said, sticking to the man :P

In most countries left wing politics is found in the opposition, and in forexample the Us there are no real left wing politics, so there are many young, angry bands that wants to tell the world that something isnt right here, thats left-wing!
