Being idiotic is ignoring the long history that axl rose has of not showing up for gigs. He has done it all throughout his career. It's the most obvious reason for the cancellation.

If it was cancelled for Letterman, then it's understandable.... if not, then that sucks ass. Kinda hard for me to have much sympathy for the Portland crew; I had tickets to the 2002 shows in LA that were cancelled too.

No, that would not be acceptable. You can't just cancel on 5000+ fans who've paid a lot of money they won't get back to travel to the gig just because you get a better offer.

I seriously doubt that's what happened- the fire safety cancellation is the most plausible explanation offered, and under those circumstances it would be reasonable to cancel.

Easiest way to tell is the end solo- there are some slight changes to it that Robin makes at Inland Invasion and on the HD commercial (I can mention that here, right?) that aren't in the demo or any other live version I've heard.

Guys, you're completely missing the point of this article, putting words in his mouth and seeming really a bit ignorant.

He's not saying GnR killed rock or anything so dramatic. He's making an observation that rock music now, is thematically different, primarily in lyrical content, from that of the 50s.

He then traces the 50s spirit right up through until the mid 80s. Where GnR come in is that he says that WTTJ is the first point where you can see a cultural paradigm shift in rock- from singing about a hard partying, fantasy lifestyle to singing and writing about real life.

And that is what I've always thought about GnR- that in many ways they belong in the 'alternative' movement rather than the 80s scene, and viewed from that angle you can appreciate the revolutionary aspect of GnRs music much more easily. It's not him saying that GnR sound like Nirvana, it's a more subtle argument yet more important than that.

Why don't people listen to the bootlegs, or at the shows, rather than getting so hung up on how terrible they think it is for a rock band to do this.

The fact is, it sounds great, and is a real demonstration of the charisma of, and the chemistry between Finck and Fortus.

Has anyone been to any gigs in this venue before? Any idea what the acoustics are like, how intimate it feeels- is it a good choice for this kind of show?

Just remember the same things happened in 2002... I don't know if you guys were in the online community then, but leaking passwords around only let the scalpers in. No matter how well you know someone online, these things happen. Really, you shouldn't spread it at all- we were asked not to, and you're all seemingly ignoring that; by precedent, you should know what is going to happen.
